I have a big obsession with mirrors. Maybe it came from my Marie Antoinette narcissism years or the fact that I love the instant clarity they can provide to a room. Whatever the reason for my infatuation, the truth is that if it was for me, I would have mirrors everywhere just like in my dear Versailles Palace. My latest reflection craze are the fragmented ones. As always I figured a way to make one from scratch. But before I show you how, here are some beautiful examples that I used as inspiration. Via Horshow Via Hemlock Design Via Dittle Dattle Let’s cut to the chase Materials: Foam board Ruler Thin plywood plank (1/8”x12”x24”) available at Michaels Small mirrors, I bought three 5 packs (3”x3”) available at Michaels Paintbrush 3600 glue available at Michaels Paint (I use leftover Behr sample in Dolphin Fin) Fist I pre-cut some foam board in strips of 1/2” wide. These are going to be for the sides in order to elevate the mirrors squares. After cutting these pieces, I divided a couple of them in half making two triangles of each one. Now it is time to select your pattern before you start gluing the […]

1. Tissue Paper Pom Poms - I love the look of these tissue paper pom poms that I found on Etsy. But instead of buying them off Etsy I'll just make my own. I already have a bunch of tissue paper in my stash {comes from having many hobbies, like making paper flowers when I was around 14 - 15}. If they turn out alright, I might do a tutorial. :) 2. Fabric Banner - I love the look of this fabric banner I found on Etsy. I have no idea where I would hang it up. Oh I know. I'll just have it drape along the wall. Yes, that will work out just dandy. Once again I won't be buying this, but making my own. This will be perfect for all my scraps. :) 3. Decorate the table with vintage patterns, magazines, and pictures. Using patterns from my stash and magazines I have collected over the years. It will help bring in that vintage vibe. As for pictures, I'll just print some of my favorite vintage pictures & old Hollywood pictures off my macbook. :) 4. What I wish I had.... A train case would be nice. As would vintage tablecloths, napkins, and dishes. But I don't have any of these at this time - maybe someday I will. :) There are some lovelies on Etsy. Before I go, let me show you some inspirational pictures of some shabby chic, vintage-themed, parties & picnics. {images from: Etsy. Personal. Tumblr.}

For ages, I have been meaning to make some shabby chic bunting for my little cottage. It's not hard to DO it, just hard to find time, unfortunately. I printed out some pretty Cath Kidston patterns on printable cotton fabric (which I managed to find in NEW ZEALAND!!) and spent a happy little while cutting out little triangles and messing around with glue. I am really happy with my bunting - it looks so pretty hanging over the living room mirror. Now I have to figure out how to make some tiny fairy lights I want to make some fairy lights to drape over the ladder in the living room - they have to actually light up of course. I found this photo of some beautiful fairy lights shaped like roses - these are full sized ones but I would love something like this in miniature for the shabby cottage. I have had one try at this already but only succeeded in detaching a very important and very thin wire from the string of tiny lights I had bought. I couldn't fix them so that was the end of that attempt. Maybe it's time I tried again!
Decorating with mirrors can add elegance or edgy-ness to any home, apartment, or rental. Mirrors create the illusion of space, airiness, openness—making this decor choice perfect for small spaces, like hallways or tinier bedrooms. A current trend is decorating with multiple mirrors on the same wall. The…
