This wonderful textile is a remarkable French folk dress bodice, dating to the late 1700s. Such a gorgeous French female folk undergarment!! This textile has a small scale geometric pattern printed cotton on most of the exterior. This type of design was very fashionable during the late 18th and early 19th centuries. This textile also uses a silk brocade to either side of the opening, one green and one gold. There is some indigo fabric on the bottom and on the top straps. This textile is in extraordinary, well preserved condition (please see condition details below) with the fabric tones still vibrant. It was likely patched and worked on over the years, the fabric at the top of the straps looks to have been added later, as do the mismatched buttons. The lining is of heavy hemp and the back has the original lifts for the "rump" or bustle. These rumps are stuffed with dense straw. This is 100% hand stitched. A wonderful and very rare find!! I have several in my collection, please email for details! ( EC88 ) MEASUREMENTS : This lovely textile measures approximately 18 inches long, 25 inches around at the waist, and the shoulders are approx. 12 inches. ~ CONDITION : This textile is in as found condition. It's in remarkable condition for its age! The silk brocade fabric has some holes, thinning and fraying. There are some pale stains, the worst is on the lower right front, as you can see in the photos. I've rarely seen another 18th century article of clothing in such well preserved condition!

The interior is lined in white cotton. All eyelet holes are 100% hand-stitched worked. Absolutely all edges are edged by hand. Shoulder straps have ribbon ties on each side. Loom-quilted or mock-quilted cottons, often called "Marseilles" or "Marcella" or "Manchester" cloth, rapidly gained in popularity in the 1760s and 1770s. The introduction of a weaving technique that could approximate the look of time-consuming hand quilting made warm, "quilted" garments like this ladies waistcoat more inexpensive and thus more widely available than ever before. Period images of diamond-quilted waistcoats and petticoats like this one abound in these two decades, providing solid evidence that they were worn across all social levels. This ladies waistcoat would be suitable as an "undergarment" worn either under the stays, or over the stays but under the outermost gown, jacket, or bedgown; evidence strongly suggests it was not meant to be visible. It is ideal for providing an extra layer of warmth, as it permits full and free torso and arm movement because of its closely-fitted style. This Marseilles ladies waistcoat - available in white or "natural" cream (shown in the photos) - is based on a number of extant pieces. It is entirely hand sewn using period stitches and construction techniques based on those sources. The edges are bound with cotton tape and it ties closed down the center front (with a 1-2" gap) using three sets of ties. A wool flannel version is also available in a natural off-white wool, lined with off-white linen, in an identical style. Please make your selection using the drop-down menu. This listing is for a CUSTOM waistcoat created to fit your specific measurements. The size WILL BE DIFFERENT depending on whether or not you intend to wear it under your stays or over them, so please measure according to how you plan to wear the waistcoat (i.e. without stays if you intend to wear it under your stays, or in your stays if you plan to wear it over them). When ordering, please provide in the "notes" section: 1) your waist measurement 2) your bust measurement 3) your back length measurement (nape of neck to natural waistline) PLEASE NOTE THAT BECAUSE THIS IS A SPECIAL ORDER, IT WILL TAKE 3-4 WEEKS TO SHIP. Because it is made entirely of 100% cotton materials (fabric, tape, and thread), the white version would be a lovely candidate for dying to your choice of period color! This ladies waistcoat is entirely hand sewn using period stitches and construction techniques and would be appropriate for use in reenacting or in a museum setting. A custom mock-quilted petticoat is also available! https://www.etsy.com/listing/172902818/custom-18th-century-hand-sewn-mock?ref=related-2 This item arrives to you with period documentation and care instructions.
Reversible corset dress made of violet organza from one side and black cotton fabric from the other. The corset is fully boned with metal bones. The dress has lacing on the back of the corset with a satin bend, as well as a skirt. The dress was inspired by 18th-century fashion. We made some antique patterns of corset and used them for creating this dress, and it turned out just amazing:) This can be a separate corset and skirt and also a dress.
