WHAT YOU'LL NEED: - Water-based paint, ink, or etching cream (find a suitable etching cream in the paints and pastes section of our shop) - A squeegee or old credit card to apply the paint - Possibly a tacky mat or solid piece of cardboard, if you’re screenprinting on fabric. HOW TO USE: Your silkscreen stencil works like a sticker. It comes on a plastic carrier sheet, which keeps the adhesive side sticky. Do not throw the plastic carrier sheet away! 1. Before using your stencil: flip your stencil over and use a permanent marker to trace part of your design on the plastic carrier sheet your stencil is on. Or, alternatively, cut a small corner off your stencil while it's still stuck on the plastic carrier sheet. (After using the stencil you’ll need to stick it back on the correct side of the plastic, by either tracing part of your design on the plastic or cutting a small corner off the stencil and plastic, it’ll be easy to line up and stick the stencil on the correct side of the plastic carrier sheet. The stencil will get stuck if you stick it back onto the wrong side of the plastic carrier sheet! *If your stencil is stuck to the foil try soaking it for a few minutes and carefully peel it off the foil - avoid stretching it). 2. Peel your stencil off the plastic carrier sheet - avoid stretching the stencil and keep the carrier sheet nearby. Stick the stencil onto your fabric and gently apply pressure making it stick and pushing out any air bubbles. 3. Apply a thin layer of water-based paint evenly over the top with a squeegee or old credit card or brush. If you're stenciling onto a rounded surface use a brush or simply finger paint. 4. Remove any excess paint and take off your stencil. Your print is done! Before you admire your result be sure NOT to let the paint dry in the mesh of the stencil. So continue these instructions. 5. Optional step for doing multiple prints in one go (bulk stenciling). If you're just stenciling one item skip this step and wash your stencil (see step 6). If you're planning on doing multiple prints straight away, you don't have to wash the stencil in between prints as long as there's no bleeding, aka paint on the back of the stencil. Just be very careful when you place your stencil onto the next item, you only have one shot at this as there will still be wet paint in the mesh and it will leave a vague print immediately (you won't be able to make adjustments). With practice, you'll be able to get more and more prints done without washing in between. My personal record is 25. Once you're done or you notice paint bleeding, wash your stencil - see step 6 below. 6. Rinse your stencil under running water immediately after using it. Gently rub the front of your stencil with your fingers to remove any paint, but don’t rub the adhesive backside - simply holding it under running water should remove any paint. Don't use scrubbing tools or paint remover items as this may ruin your stencil. 7. Place the stencil upside down on a flat surface. Stick the foil onto the back of the stencil, lining up the traced image or the cut corners. Apply some pressure and remove any air bubbles. Dab off any excess water, flip it over, and let it dry. Store it out of sunlight and reuse it! If you have any questions, feel free to ask :)
