810 Extension table, farmhouse table, antique finish, extending table, harvest table, farm table with leaves, dining table, solid wood, sustainable Hello! My husband Buck and I build everything in our Portland, Oregon studios. Nothing is imported. Custom sizes gladly. ***** Please note: there are none in stock and we make each piece "to order". Pictured here is a 40 x 96 table that seats 8 people when closed, and opens with two 18.5 inch leaves. This makes the total open length 10 feet - seating 12 comfortably, possibly squeezing 14. Sturdy steel Watertown table slides are completely hidden behind the apron and do not sag, even when extended. This table is made the old fashioned way - using machine tools of course, but the legs are each turned by hand on the lathe. The evidence of subtle and charming variations, typical of handmade goods, is apparent on close view of the piece. We have a unique way of building tabletops for center-opening extension tables, in which the main boards of the top run lengthwise, continuing through the leaves. Each opening is bordered by a perpendicular board, as you can see in the closeups. Most of our finishes are antique / rustic. This one is color #G3, which is a nice medium chocolate with peach or cherry undertones. Minor deliberate dings and scratches will blend in with whatever wear you add to it later on, and the penetrating, living finish simply does not accept stains. We would not put a hot pan directly on the surface - be sure to use a trivet under that. However for normal eating and drinking we assure you that you will not need coasters or placemats, and it will look beautiful for a very, very long time and is expected to last many lifetimes and to be passed on to future generations. Please call Suzanne at 503-816-5316. I am happy to help you figure out what is the best size, color, shape, etcetera. We look forward to working with designers and homeowners!!

After taking a look at Art Deco last week, I became curious about Art Nouveau. "What's the difference?" kept entering my mind. So I did a little research. Flower border Turns out I'm addressing them backwards: Art Nouveau (new art) is the earlier style and is more naturalistic. That should have been last week's inspiration. Art Nouveau architecture My mnemonic: First, art is "nouveau," (pronounced new-voe) and natural; it includes shapes from nature such as leaves, arcs, ferns. Note the arcs, parabolas, and flower stamens Then, it decorates and styles a space, including sleek, geometric lines, chrome, zigzags. This is a broadly defining way of remembering the differences, but I need something. As you look at the modern quilts below, note the arcs, parabolas, flowers, and stylized, contrasting lines. Do you agree that these have some elements of Art Nouveau? Do you find that they also have elements of Art Deco as well? It gets a little confusing, doesn't it?

Vintage Marcel Breuer for Thonet B12 Bauhaus Console Side Table This console table, model B12, was designed by Marcel Breuer in 1928. It features two wooden ledges supported by a frame of continuous tubular steel. The concept for Breuer's tubular design was to make furniture that would not only fit modern architecture, but have functionality as well. This table is a prime example of this approach. Origin: produced by Thonet in the 1940s in Germany. Condition: in very good vintage shape for its age. The wooden shelves are in good vintage condition, both shelves have a wonderful texture and pattern. There are some signs of wear, small scratches and light stains are noticeable. No cracks to the wooden boards. Overall the tubular frame is in excellent condition with minimal marks and no signs of rust. The entire structure is stable.
