Everyone needs something to keep them warm at night. Geeks might want one or more of these totally nerdastic quilts.
My list was smallish for this week - try to finish 6 cat blocks and cut out the sashing ready to go.✅ - sew on the hanging sleeve to my background filler project❌ - take some photos of my Christmas quilt. I think I will put that in my Etsy shop for sale even though it is a bit late now...well, there's always next year.✅ The last bit of the cat quilt went quicker as I could see the end. I chain pieced along saying the names of the individual cats as I was sewing along so I would not get confused. Must have been really focussed as I did not mix up their faces 😂 Ran into a bit of trouble as I thought I had oodles of background fabric. Well, as it turned out it was just enough. Had a mild suspicion when I started to cut out the sashings. I have a table which tells me how many pieces I can get out of one strip. for the sashing it was 4, 10-1/2in pieces per strip but as I was starting to cut I noticed that I was only yielding 3 pieces! I then cut my outside borders as well of which I needed 8, 4in strips so that ate up a lot of fabric. In the end I had to cut some off some length from my border strips to make the sashings go the distance. A few anxious moments there and I thought that in the future I will put my background fabric away with the UFO. As years pass I do forget what I am working on or better said what I have stuffed away somewhere and it is just too easy to cut into your background fabric when you actually need it. Lesson learnt. Here is the completed quilt top It turned out so pretty, just like I had envisaged it. The quilt will measure about 57in x 66in. Had to go yesterday to look for some backing and batting and spent half a fortune acquiring it. Washed the backing and now just have to find some spare time to put it all together. Looking forward to quilting this. Today then I finally put up my Christmas quilt in my Etsy shop. It is a bit late but what can you do. There is always next year. Its a pretty little quilt. I used wool batting which makes this nicely soft and a little bit puffy. The quilt measures 32-5/8in x 47-1/2in, so a good size for a bit of a fun festive wall hanging to adorn the halls. Glad this is done so that I now can concentrate on other projects. Again, planning is the magic word rather than jumping around all over the place which I have been doing over the last few months. Linking up to To Do Tuesday #51 over at Quilt Schmilt. Karin

making lots of beautiful quilts and wallhangings for gifts. Bonnie and Donna W. have been so busy sewing that they've left the rest of us in the dust. I think they must have a sewing fairy that comes in at night and sews for them, lol. Otherwise how can they get so much done? Here are some of their latest projects. Bonnie's Cat 1600 Quilt Donna W's Batik 1600 Quilt Bonnie's Pumpkin WH Donna W's Corn and Pumpkins 1600 Quilt Donna W's Fall TR Now you have to remember, these 1600 quilts are in addition to the ones they made when we had our 1600 Challenge day at the fire hall last month. I think they're trying to show the rest of us up, lol. Now the next 1600 quilt is the one Tammy did at the fire hall, but she decided to put a scarecrow from another pattern on hers. Her mom, Jane is helping her with it. Isn't this a cute idea? Tammy's quilt And here's the beautiful table runner that Jane received from Joan K in the Quilted Table Fall/Halloween Swap. Isn't it gorgeous? Joan does such beautiful work. Stop over at her blog (Moose Stash Quilting) and look at all the wonderful projects she has made. She even has some tutorials for you to try. That's all for today. But I'll be back soon with pictures from our Hug Club charity quilting event. Until next time... Happy quilting from Sharon and the girls, Katie and Patsy Cline
Continuing with workshop samples. I am always trying to achieve a naievity that you find in old American appliquéd quilts. Cats and dogs feature heavily in those old quilts . I think I may have over worked these a bit… but I guess you cat lovers out there might appreciate them!
Miniature Block of the Month February 2015 - The Quilt Room Here is the February edition of the Miniature Block of the Month FREE from the Quilt Room, Dorking. I am really enjoying this BOM so far. Just one block means I can usually get it done quite quickly during one evening after work. Just like last month I have put the pattern into my Electric Quilt software and printed off the foundation patterns. I am pleased with the colours of the 'Snowman Gatherings' fabrics I am using. I haven't taken any of the papers out yet. I love the firmness and stability it gives - it reminds me of the more refined finish you get with dressmaking when you add an interfacing. Suzi the Cat on her Cat Mat We have had some warm winter days here lately which makes for hard work if you are a cat. Moving from room to room following the sun is exhausting! When I saw the Bordered Diamonds quilt in Kaffe Fassett's book, Simple Shapes Spectacular Quilts, I knew immediately that it would be a perfect quilt for a thank you gift for my aunt. Never mind that my stash did not contain many large floral prints. My first thought was that I would just buy a kit, and Glorious Color has fabric kits to make two different versions of the quilt. This is their version from the book. And this is their version from the June/July 2010 Quilt Magazine. I carefully analyzed each kit trying to decide which would be best. Then I started thinking about how I liked each version--except for this or that fabric, and how I wanted to use some of my own fabrics, and how I am pretty persnickety about fabric choices, and I finally just gave up and started collecting florals...surely that wouldn't add too much to my stash? Here's a view of the cut diamonds and border strips and of my lovely white board which has been replaced: And since the directions call for dark diamonds to have light strips, and light diamonds to have dark strips, and the rows to alternate, I photographed them, then changed them to black and white to determine the values, as shown here by the strips (although these are the mediums to darks primarily): But after trying to lay them out as directed, I decided to do my own thing when the light/dark thing didn't work, and just evenly separated the colors. And now, a couple of months later, the blocks of the quilt are all sewn together. Hooray! I needed the quilt to be larger than designed, so it's now waiting for the border fabric to be added. This is what I am planning on using: And, having easily spent twice as much as I would have on a kit (what's an extra 1/2 yard here or there?), I now have a very large bin of floral fabrics. My stash, like my waistline, only seems to grow in one direction....
