A recent Net-a-porter editorial featuring the pants in question. During a recent editorial meeting, the Glamour digital team and I had a pretty passionate discussion. It went on for over 15 minutes, and it was accompanied by a lot of gesturing, eye rolling, and sighing. The topic at hand? Gaucho pants. Let's be clear: We weren't discussing whether or not we liked them. We were all pretty much in agreement about that. (For the record, we are fans.) We were discussing something much more fundamental: the fact that these pants suffer from terrible PR. For starters, the name gaucho is all wrong—and not because it reminds people of the original cropped-pants wearers: Argentine cowboys. Pretty sure nobody's thinking about those guys when they're shopping for fall clothes. Nope, the word gaucho is all wrong because it reminds everyone of the horrible, flimsy monstrosities with the roll-down waistbands from a couple of years back. And nobody wants to remember they ever wore those. One hundred percent hell no. So, how about we all agree to call these new pants something else? Yeah, I know; you're probably thinking we should just settle on culottes and call it a day. But come on.

♛ Incredible deadstock and unworn early 1940s Royal Australian Navy sailor trousers. Since debuting this collection in spring of 2018, these trousers have shipped out across the globe to thrilled clients. The unsolicited Etsy reviews and client photos tell the tale...they are amazing. You'll get a rare pair of ca. WWII era trousers that will serve you for a lifetime with proper care. High quality, a classic look that never goes off fashion's radar. •deep, dark ink-blue unfaded color •pure wool twill from Australia, known for the finest wool in the world •ultra-high waist •iconic fall-front panel with buttons •lovely interior hidden pockets •classic wide legs •smart and stylish wartime beauty •reinforced and partly lined with the matching ticking/hickory stripe cotton fabric as shown Wonderful paired with a snug sweater, a cropped jacket, or a little tee-shirt. For the price you'd pay for a midrange pair of jeans, you get something that's high quality AND a historical collectible. Our shop partner acquired the ENTIRE time capsule collection, and we are the exclusive place to get them. Note: the pair shown are an EXAMPLE. Minor variations exist across the collection, such as presence or absence of interior or exterior labels. We have only have a scarce few with the novelty hangtag left as those have shipped to our early buyers. Some are dated inside (i.e. 1940, 1944, etc.) or have historic inked notations inside. A few have original prices, NOT what we paid for them. Important note: these were originally cis men's military-issued uniform pants. Some of the smaller trousers were altered in the 1960s/1970s by a surplus company, taken in through the existing rear seam to better suit cis women. That said, these uniform pieces were originally intended for the "typically male" body type. Very curvaceous figures should size up to fit their hips and booty, and then have the waist tailored down to suit. Note: the original sizes found on these trousers are often inaccurate. Disregard. We have carefully measured each pair and corrected sizing as needed. ♛Measurements READ CAREFULLY BEFORE ORDERING! Do ~NOT~ go by your natural waist size or your jeans size. Go by your HIGH waist measurement. Here is how to get your best fit. Note the extra long RISE of 16 1/2" -- that is the distance from the center crotch of pants measured straight up with a measuring tape to where the top rim of the trouser's waistband sits. Find this spot on yourself, bring the tape up 16 1/2", then use the tape to take the circumference of your body. That's your "high waist." Allow a little wiggle room for breathing and ease as these have very little give/stretch and you do not want a skin-tight waistband. In other words, many of us need to "size up" to fit the high-hitting waistband. Always double-check to make sure the hips on your corresponding high waist size will fit you. The hips would be difficult to alter to make them larger, so if you need more room it's better to order a larger waist size and then have this waist tailored to fit you. If you need a longer inseam piece, be sure to order one marked LONG in the menu. They have less than 1" additional hem allowance. There are no returns, exchanges, or cancellations on these, including for size issues. If you have additional questions let's address these before you purchase. We've helped hundreds of folks find the right pair. All measurements are approximate, rim to rim, with the waistband held firmly flat, tight, and taut: RARE Size 25 - only one avail! A small handful have some inconsequential sign of their age (e.g. a small moth hole or two from storage, generally on the cuff or edge and easy to darn or ignore). We make every effort to cull out unwearable pieces with blatant imperfections, but do keep in mind their age and material...WWII and woolen pieces this old are rarely if ever "perfect." They've been carefully stored for decades. We lint roll, then package for protection. Dry cleaning or hand-washing in Woolite or similar recommended. As mentioned, some of the smaller-waisted trousers were altered by a secondary surplus company 40-50 years ago, taken in through the rear waist to better fit smaller women. Please remember and respect the fact that these WWII uniform pieces are now around 80 years old, so the thread holding the buttons on is also exactly that old. Consider reinforcing this old thread so you don't lose any of the cool original buttons. Buttonholes and fabric will grow less stiff with use, much like breaking in a new pair of jeans. To keep pricing down and the process straightforward on this high demand item in our shop, these are sold as-is with no warranties. They are priced well below what we might ask for a pair of unworn 1940s WWII trousers. The bank of unsolicited reviews and client photos on Etsy will give you a great idea of the quality of our military collection. It's truly like nothing you can find on the racks today. Once they're gone from our shop, they're gone forever! •••••• Our pieces are true vintage with a history and a past life, not newly made reproductions. Please be familiar with vintage clothing and read over our shop policies before purchasing. We are happy to answer any questions you might have to help you with online purchasing.
