I didn't set out to have "Farmhouse style" in the kitchen. If you know me, you know I tend to run the opposite direction from trends, but as I have slowly added vintage and antique elements from my grandparent's house and country store, it sort of came out that way, or at least that's how it gets pinned:-) Christmas is such a wonderful time to be in the kitchen, especially with family gathered around. I am enjoying my kitchen even more this year since we put in wormy chestnut countertops this summer and replaced the cabinet here with reclaimed wood shelves. I was seriously thankful for the big HUGE sink after Thanksgiving dinner! I could even get my big roasting pan in it comfortably. As in the other rooms, lots of fresh greens from the woods... I did follow jump all over one trend this season and fill these jars with faux snow and vintage bottle brush trees. My grandmother's Santa is perched on the antique scale. I love the piano in its new spot because all three kids like to sit and play while I am working in the kitchen:-) Another thing I am ecstatic about is the spray-painted countertop treatment I bravely tried also this summer. You can see how I did it HERE. It has held up unbelievably well and I love the bright, clean look. Another hemlock tree from the woods holds vintage Shiny Brite ornaments, popcorn, and gingerbread ornaments the children made. More bottlebrush trees and ornaments this time in blue Mason jars. I also added these iron brackets to the island, and my grandmother's Christmas aprons hang on drawer pulls attached to an old board. J & G Meakin "Romantic England" dinnerware is perfect for Christmas with vintage silverplate flatware, Oneida A1 "Meadowbrook." I *love* the dropcloth and ticking slipcovers I made for the damaged leather chairs, but with a 7-year-old boy, they only get put on for photos or company:-) I also redid the cabinets since I had used walnut rubbing stain for distressing originally. I sanded down the fronts lightly then used dark paste wax, and they really look cleaner and lighter. I really do love the kitchen at Christmas, and I love that it is a big open space... ...just like my grandmother had in the old house:-) Thanks for stopping by! Last post before Christmas! That is pretty exciting. I joined an amazing group of bloggers for a Christmas Night tour. I think this is easily going to be my favorite tour yet. Have you ever been to a progressive dinner? Where you start appetizers at a neighbors house, drinks at the next and keep moving around to see all your neighbors homes and eat dinner in small bites along the way. End at dessert! Although there is no food on the tour...there are over 25 homes you can easily peep into. Easier than a Progressive Dinner. I hope you make it over to the blog today to see our home at night. And I just and I just want to say Merry Christmas to you! I honestly wish I could have you all over to our home to do this tour in person. Thank you for supporting my blog, what a gift you have given to me. xxxxx
