Scientists at John Hopkins University have discovered that a drug based on foxglove, can dramatically slow the migration of malignant cells to other parts of the body.
Whether it's poisonous dyes, pestilential fabrics, or flammable skirts, here are some reasons to be glad you're not getting dressed in 1837.
A vida já é difícil o bastante para encará-la de mau humor, logo, revigore-se. Renove suas energias, faça delas brilhantes e renasça à cada dia.
The subject of this painting comes from "Sigismonda and Guiscardo". In this tale Tancred, King of Salerno, kills his daughter's lover and sends her his heart in a golden goblet. She kisses the heart, fills the cup with poison, drinks, and dies. Accession Number: 1948 P49
"Urtica Dioica, Stinging Nettle Fairies" (The Poison Flower Fairies) An art print from one of my original artworks, in a choice of sizes. This is a giclee print: paper and inks are excellent archival quality, and the prints are afterwards signed by hand. Note on sizing: 12x17.5 inch, 16x23 inch and 20x29 inch are the full image, but they are not standard frame sizes, the others are cropped slightly, see last picture - this is the 12 x 16 inch version, the A sizes will be in-between this and the original version. The Story: This picture is one of a series of paintings of the 'Poison Flower Fairies'. Like the foxglove (see my other prints), it is actually doing the Stinging Nettle a great injustice to label it a ‘poison plant’ at least without pointing out some of its benefits. You can make paper out of them, textiles, plant food, they are excellent in the compost heap, and there is some evidence that the sting can be used to treat arthritis, and you can eat them of course… The list is almost endless. But lets face it, Urticia Dioica is also a bit of a thug. If you have never been stung by nettles or fallen into them as a child, I can only conclude that they do not grow anywhere in your part of the world. Round here they are everywhere. In the leaves above are baby stinging nettle fairies. These fairies come as a gang: where there is one stinging nettle there are invariably lots, and so baby fairies seemed necessary, too. I am sure all the little nettle seedlings each has its own fairy. Original artwork: I also sell my original artwork, but not all of it is on Etsy. To find out if the original of this image (or any other) is still available for sale, please send me a message; I am happy to list an item on Etsy by request if it is not already here. Copyright: I retain the copyright. Some of the images in these listings may have ‘copyright Nancy Farmer’, etc. written on them but these words do not appear on the actual print you will receive. Questions? I am a professional artist working in Somerset, UK. I paint what amuses me, and occasionally I take on commissions. Anything else you would like to know about my artwork or this print in particular, please send me a message.
In this post from Writers Write, we share the names of 10 deadly poisons - a crime writer's resource.
Mushrooms and fungi are very familiar to most of us, love them or hate them, they're known to most for their culinary or medicinal uses, or perhaps as annoying mould or the yeast we use to bake. It's a safe bet to assume that nearly anyone's heard of them, seen them, used them, tasted them,
