Bring the vibrant essence of a Scottish summer onto the walls of your space with this exquisite print, capturing the natural beauty of Sandwood Bay, Sutherland. This piece is a symphony of colour, with each brushstroke contributing to a vivid tapestry that teases the senses and invigorates the soul. The artwork features a stunning portrayal of the pristine beach, its sand a mosaic of warm oranges, pinks, and creamy whites, reflecting the summer sun with a brilliance that radiates from the canvas. The play of light and shadow dances across the textured surface of the cliffs, their rugged forms etched against the horizon. Shades of mossy green and earthen red intertwine, highlighting the lush grass that clings to the cliff side, swaying gently in the coastal breeze. In the foreground, the ebb and flow of the azure sea, interspersed with whitecaps, gently laps onto the shore, creating a peaceful rhythm that beckons you to lose yourself in the scene. Tiny figures can be seen in the distance, their outlines softened, enjoying the tranquillity of this secluded spot, surrounded by nature’s grandeur. Above, the expansive sky is a canvas in itself, brushed with strokes of soft blues and wisps of white clouds, suggesting the fleeting nature of a perfect summer day in Scotland. This print is a celebration of the fleeting Scottish summertime, a momento that encapsulates the ephemeral beauty of Sandwood Bay in a style reminiscent of the great Impressionists, allowing the viewer to feel connected to this serene corner of the world from the comfort of their own home. Whether hung in a living room, study, or hallway, this piece is sure to become a cherished part of any art lover's collection, inviting contemplation and wanderlust in equal measure.
MICHELE MIKESELL b. 1973, Alabama, USA In 2002, Michele Mikesell earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts with a minor in graphic design from Texas Women's University in Denton, TX. Mikesell completed her Master of Fine Arts at the University of Oklahoma in Norman in 2004. Mikesell is a Dallas Artist who lives and works in Oak Cliff and is currently represented by Chiaroscuro, Sante Fe; JRB Gallery, Oklahoma City; Alan Avery Art Company, Atlanta; and DECORAZON Gallery in Dallas/ London. Mikesell's work can be found internationally in many private and corporate collections, and has been exhibited in national and international art fairs including, AQUA Miami; SCOPE Basel and New York City; The Suite Art Fair, Dallas, Texas; Art Santa Fe; and the Affordable Art Fair New York City, London, Hong Kong and Singapore. Mikesell had a solo exhibition at the Ardmore Museum of Art in Oklahoma (November, 2014). “Creating individuals is what I find most interesting in the studio. It is my hope that these portraits will be familiar characters to the viewer, subjects we recognize and identify with. My work consistently travels along a general vein of the universal human experience. This particular group of paintings is an iconographical departure from previous work in that literal human features have been introduced. Other aspects of this work directly reference the anthropomorphic petro glyph characters in which I first based my interest in painting. These realistic, stylized faces placed within loosely interpreted animal shapes and costumes narrate a continued thesis of dichotomy and metaphor - comparing and contrasting human ideas with animal instinct. Irony, contradiction, humor and tragedy, have been continued themes in my work and are illustrated not only within the image, but within the actual paint and surface of the painting. I am influenced by a diverse and extremely eclectic group of different movements including Abstract and German Expressionism, Art Informal, Children’s Art, as well as the 17th century Dutch masters and the current Pop Surrealist movement. I work with little or no pre-conceived finished piece. My process is a constant acting and reacting from and within the marks subliminally laid into the paint.”
