Flooring for the home remodel has been one tough decision for us. I like the look of hardwood flooring and wanted it throughout the house. But my gosh, the price!! We looked in to other options, like using carpet in the bedrooms, but my heart was still set on wood. Plus, my eco-minded husband loved that they were not packed with chemicals and toxins that are found in other flooring options. via But then it came to what type? In an effort to keep our costs down, and to bring in the rustic feel we both love, we have decided to go with pine floors. Pine floors are a soft hardwood which does come with both its pros and cons. They can ding and dent much easier than the harder hardwoods, such as oak, but we feel that a few dents and dings might simply add character to our floor making it a great option for us. via We also have decided to try to DIY the flooring using the same technique that Young House Love used with an underlayment called Elastilon. We'll be sure to keep you guys updated on how it goes when we get started! In the meantime, here are a few of our inspiration photos. via via via via What is the best flooring option in your opinion? Would you choose wood over carpet for your bedroom? Next on the shopping list is a nice big rug so we don't step out of bed on to a cold floor.

She has the special talent of discover beauty even where another eye would not see anything special. And I like the way she is able to mix different styles and create a special harmony with few simple things Lei ha un talento speciale nello scoprire la bellezza anche dove altri occhi non avrebbero visto niente di particolare. Dear readers of Shabby Soul, I was very flattered when my dear blog friend Silvia asked if I would like to guest blog here, and I feel honoured to do so today. My name is Helena and in my blog “The Swenglish Home”. I write about my interior ideas, craft projects and a little about the life of a Swede living in the UK. I live with my English partner and our two young boys in a Victorian house in a picturesque part of England near Bath. I work part-time as a consultant and university lecturer in Cross-Cultural Communication, and also make decorative items for the home, which I sell locally. Travelling has always been a big part of my life, and this is reflected in our home, where several different interior styles are mixed together. Turkish lanterns sit next to French vintage finds and Swedish linen fabric, and - of course, with my Scandinavian background - wood is a material that can be found throughout the house! Having started as an interior decorating blog, I find myself being more and more drawn out into the garden too, creating little “rooms” and relaxing corners in our outside space. If, like me, you are fascinated by contrasts in your decorating and creating, England really is a wonderful environment to live in. I often introduce “rougher” materials when I decorate, with a particular love of anything rusty. Mixing textures of wood, linen fabrics, old metal objects with softer textiles, fresh flowers and lots of evergreens, gives a room a relaxed feel. I desire to keep a playful and curious mind when decorating. I am eager to try! Sono entusiasta di provare! Thank you for your time and thank you again, Silvia, for the opportunity to meet your readers. Wishing you all a lovely summer! Grazie del vostro tempo e grazie ancora Silvia per l'opportunità di incontrare i tuoi lettori Auguro a tutti una bella estate Helena Thank you Helena too, for staying with us!! Silvia
Holy cow guys. I feel like I might finally be able to sleep tonight after weeks & weeks of trying to decide what we should do with our new pine flooring. So if you remember a few months ago we made the decision to install 8 inch pine boards into our house. Well, that was an easy decision... & I thought deciding whether to paint or stain would be easy as well. No. No it wasn't. I completely locked up & didn't know what to do because I loved painted & stained floors equally. So, I asked you guys ...
Do you have pine flooring? If your boards are looking bored and the whole floor is terribly tatty and sad, here's how to bring it back to beautiful life.

I think the MOST frequently asked question I get since laying our pine floors has been... WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO TO YOUR FLOORS? You can see the flooring we put in Guys it keeps me up at night. Do we paint? Do we stain? Do we do a combo of both? What color paint? What color stain? Gahhh. I blogged here some paint color options . & today I wanted to quick pop in with the only stain color that I have liked since starting the stain sampling process... Ok, don't mind my lack of pedicure, but here is
