I am obsessed by Hellebores but whenever I see them in person in someone's garden, they are never this beautiful. They usually look like salad fixings that have been in the crisper drawer too long. Maybe I just haven't seen any that were planted in the right spot. I think the individual flowers are really beautiful. Here is a link to learn more about these late winter bloomers aka Lenten roses. image source More hellebores. The foliage is evergreen. via

No other rose in the garden boasts quite this extraordinary color: deep fuchsia pinkfade resistant and so eye-catching. The 2005 Rose of the Year here at Jackson & Perkins, Voluptuous! lives up to its name with every satiny, high-centered, petal-packed bloom. These large 5-inch blooms contain up to 35 petals and emit a light, sweet scent. Voluptuous! comes by its color in a unique way. Master Jackson & Perkins breeder Dr. Keith Zary crossed two very different roses to achieve the fuchsia tones. The seed parent is the classic AARS winner Tournament of Roses, a coral-pink grandiflora bred by our own Bill Warriner right here at Jackson & Perkins. The pollen parent is the New Zealand variety Trumpeter, an orange to scarlet floribunda bred in New Zealand by the famed Sam McGredy. From these two disparate color blends comes the uniform, richly saturated, intense tones of Voluptuous! But the blooms are only part of this hybrid teas success in the garden. The foliage is glossy, dark green, and profuse, refusing to be daunted by summer rainstorms or high heat. NOTE: Tree and patio roses are hardy to Zone 6 regardless of the rose variety grafted to their tops.
They start out all fun and colorful, and the world just seems amaaaaazing and full of beautiful creatures.
