For me, its easy for me to tell someone else how to decorate their homes based on what the love and enjoy.
I was sent this image and fell in love! My bedroom will be loosely based on this room. Dissecting this room to create a plan I look at: colors on walls and fabrics patterns in fabrics furniture styles lighting and accessories My bedroom is larger than this room but has slanted ceilings which are always a challenge. I bought a mosquito net for over the bed. But as in the photo above, it also hung at a tilt because of the slant of the dormer roof. Do you find this objectionable? I did. I am considering wallpapering the wall behind the bed. I love this RL pattern if the color was right... This vintage floral could work but may be too flowery... This pretty Thibeault paper may hit just the right note. ~~~~~~~~~~~ Currently the room has beautiful aqua silk panels in this same fabric as these I was busy installing for a client's bedroom. On the floor are some Martha Stewart area rugs. After an Ebay hunt I found the same fabric on the bed in my inspiration picture. Sorry, bad blurry picture... My plan is to incorporate shades of pinks and blues in the bedding. Walls are beige with white trim and light blue draperies, although opposite of the inspiration photo, it is still the same palette. I have a beautiful English styled bedroom set, but it is dark wood, so that is a concern. I need to remember a man sleeps in here too! This dreadful picture *shudder*was how my room used to look. Nothing shabby or romantic to be found anywhere. Since then, I have given the oriental rug to my son. I took down the dark blue panels, and added the pale blue silk drapes and rugs. That is as far as I had gotten until I saw the inspiration pic! In a couple of weeks I will be unveiling my after photo. Wish me luck!!

I posted not long ago about the vinyl peel and stick allure floors I purchased from Home Depot and installed in the doggie playroom. Well I loved them so much I decided I am going to redo the whole upstairs in them. I have since done my upstairs hall and landing area and my bedroom. I have already ripped out the carpet in the guest room in preparation to do that room next. I hate carpet its not pet friendly so it was time for it all to go. I just have Sidney's Man cave left with carpet which is next after the guest room, I hope to have it out before flea season begins, fleas are bad in Oregon and having carpet with fleas sucks. I think though I will leave the carpet on just the stairs since Lilly is a 3 legged dog and Leo a 3 legged cat I worry about them not having as good of grip on the stairs with no carpet and losing balance and hurting themselves, either of them breaking or injuring their only 1 front leg terrifies me. I thought it would be a little weird to only have carpet on the stairs, but since you turn a corner when going up the stairs, you don't see the top and the bottom at the same time, so its kind of like you forget the flooring was different at the bottom in a way. I could do a runner but then I don't know how that would look with the floors downstairs being a very dark cherry colored and the upstairs being the white washed grayish color, so for now the carpet is staying just on the stairs This floor is soooo easy to install it really is as easy to install as it shows in the video on Home Depot's website, I love it. http://www.homedepot.com/p/TrafficMASTER-Allure-6-in-x-36-in-Alpine-Elm-Resilient-Vinyl-Plank-Flooring-24-sq-ft-case-63275-0/202885474 On the Homedepot website the floor looks a lot more yellow than it really is, it's more grayish. The color I used is called Alpine Elm. They don't sell this color in store but they do have samples of it. The dresser here generally has my 32 inch Tv on it, but I hadn't brought it back in yet after finishing the floors, so I took the pictures first since the TV is not exactly pretty. As you can see my bedroom is pretty small for being the Master bedroom, so most designers would probably not recommend a king sized bed but for me its a necessity. That reason being I have a big family of fur kids that sleep in it with me! (Everyone but the rabbits sleep with us.) While I am taking these pictures above the dogs are always scratching at the door to come in lol. Thanks for visiting us!
How blogger Sweet Melanie found her design style and tips to creating a shabby chic home.
The shabby room is located on the 3rd floor and all of the girls in the family fight about who has rights to this room.
All finished! I think I am finally happy with the bed after 3 different ones in the past few years. This room seems to be the catch all from leftovers, so I try to make them work in here. This is the bed that came from Sara's room...it was too high and I didn't like that the headboard couldn't really be seen and the fact that it took up so much space! This was another bed we had in here too. We made a headboard to fit right over the existing headboard because it was a low headboard too. But this bed took up way too much space as well. So you can see how I just wasn't happy. So that made me finally want to make the headboard that I had been really wanting to do and just go buy a bed frame. I will say that I was irritated with myself that I had decided on 40 buttons when I started tufting....what was I thinking?! I had to make them all too...but I am thrilled now that I did! And I couldn't be any happier! The headboard fits snugly up against the wall, the bed frame allows it to be snug too and no foot board! I know people will cringe with the door being right beside the bed, but this is how the room was designed, never intended as a spare bedroom. I've had the bed in so many spots over the years, but this works so much better with the room layout and it's just for guests anyways. I just love how it looks with the rest of the room...it fits right in don't ya think?! And now I really have the space for a chair at the end of the bed and still be able to walk over to the windows to pull the shades without crawling up on the bed or stubbing my toes. It was the best decision! I just love how it worked out in my favor! See all of the space? Believe it or not, I actually gained over a foot by not having a headboard or a foot board. I had to move my "always kiss me goodnight" sign though...but I really like it over the door. My guests can see it as the lay in bed. This room is super private and the quietest room in the house. Plus giving me an extra guest room making me have two! The girls come back here every day and watch tv, play the wii or just relax....so it's their room too. And everything stays nice and neat behind closed doors in the armoire. This room really has a lot of space...it's 10x20 so that may give you a clue. Over the years it's been used for so many purposes. It used to have a swing, and a wicker table and chairs when the house was Mom's. Then when we moved in, we used it for a playroom for the girls. Then when Mammaw came home with us after a stay in the hospital, we added a twin bed. That bed grew to a queen then to a full. After buying the home from my mother years ago, we remodeled the whole house. I am hoping to move the door one day though...and then it will be perfect! This piece was moved back here from Christmas from the living room...I like it so I've decided to leave it for now. It catches and holds some of my pink that I don't want anymore in the rest of the house. Ergo the room that is a catch all. I think I am finally happy with how it looks and functions...for now.... I'll be doing a post about how I made this headboard a little later this weekend. I'm going to rest now...my days and nights are all mixed up and I need to get back on track! Hope you all have a blessed weekend!
