Mario Bellini, 'Camaleonda' sofa, in orange upholstery by Italy, 1972. This sofa is made on request in our upholstery atelier. The sectional elements this sofa was made with, can be used freely and apart from one another. The backs and armrests are provided with rings and carabiners, which allows the user to create a perfect 'seating landscape.' The sofa is very comfortable and the fact this wonderful piece is modular, provides endless flexible solutions for any project or living room. This design became famous almost immediately after it was featured in the exhibition 'Italy and The New Domestic Landscape' in the MOMA Museum in 1972. Mario Bellini (1935-) is trained as an architect and became one of the leading designers in postwar Italian style. In the beginning of his career, he worked together with Olivetti, Cassina and B&B Italia which resulted in an early knowledge of synthetic resins and polyurethanes. His furniture is exciting, both in its use of material as in the originality of his designs. Bellini did not believe in precise boundaries of design, instead, he designed for the relationship of man and environment. It is impossible to pigeon hole Bellini's oeuvre, as his work is so complex and original. This sectional sofa will be upholstered on special request. Please note a complete sofa has a lead time of 5 to 6 weeks, all to meet our high standards. Literature: - Gramigna, Giuliana. Repertorio del Design Italiano 1950-2000 per L'Arredamento Domestico. About Salivasofá: First prototype sofa designed by Salvador Dalí & Oscar Tusquets, 1972. The measurements are: 175 x 110 x 80 cm -The material in which it is manufactured is polyurethane foam coated with a red polidur coating. The word Dali can be appreciated on the bottom left hand side, along with some creases to imitate lip creases. The realization of the Salivasofá project began in 1972 when Oscar Tusquets proposed to Salvador Dalí to reproduce in three dimensions and to real scale the painting completed in 1936 called, “Retrato de Mae West pudiendo ser utilizado Como sala de estar” (Portrait of the Mae West being used as a living room) in the Theater Museum (Teatro Museo) in Figueras. In 1974, everything was prepared for the development and production of the Salivasofá which eventually never reached realization. Only six prototypes were ever made. We knew that one existed the one at the Mae West living Room in Dali’s Theater Museum in Figueas, until the awareness of this present sofa, the only proptipype available in the market. In original condition with wear consistent of age and use. It has some scratches and cracks on the foam as shown on the photos.
