I just discovered this wonderful anatomical chart (see above) from volume one of Ephraim Chambers' Cyclopaedia, published in 1728. A beautiful, hi-res version of the image is available in the Wikipedia commons; I highly encourage you to visit the original (here) which is well worth a long, involved perusing, but is, sadly, too large to include here. To encourage you to visit the original, I have selected out some of my favorite details above. You can also check out the entire digitized book here, on the University of Wisconsin Digital collections website. About the Cyclopedia project, an early attempt to catalog all earthly knowledge, from Wikipedia: Cyclopaedia: or, A Universal Dictionary of Arts and Sciences (folio, 2 vols.) was an encyclopedia published by Ephraim Chambers in London in 1728, and reprinted in numerous editions in the 18th century. The Cyclopaedia was one of the first general encyclopedias to be produced in English. The 1728 subtitle gives a summary of the aims of the author: Cyclopaedia, or, A universal dictionary of arts and sciences: containing the definitions of the terms, and accounts of the things signify'd thereby, in the several arts, both liberal and mechanical, and the several sciences, human and divine: the figures, kinds, properties, productions, preparations, and uses, of things natural and artificial; the rise, progress, and state of things ecclesiastical, civil, military, and commercial: with the several systems, sects, opinions, &c; among philosophers, divines, mathematicians, physicians, antiquaries, criticks, &c: The whole intended as a course of ancient and modern learning. We print on the highest quality photographic paper available-Epson 260 gsm-using 12-color archival inks that are fade resistant for 100+ years. Custom sizing or other image requests welcome. ORDER READY TIME & SHIPPING All orders are printed to order and ship within 2-5 Business days via USPS ground advantage (fka first class) mail. SATISFACTION GUARANTEED We produce the highest quality professional photography print reproductions available on the market and pride ourselves on 5 star product and customer service. If for any reason you are not completely satisfied with your purchase, just reach out on Etsy message so we can make it right! PRO TIP In printing, like so many other services, a lot of factors determine the quality of the reproduction. How thick (or flimsy) the paper is, the resolution of the original photograph, the expertise of the individual processor/printer and the time spent polishing the image to perfection prior to printing. Before you purchase a print from just any vendor, look to see if they use a third party printing service/drop shipper, or do they control the entire process by producing and shipping the print themselves? Do they use a commercial printer, or do they simply print on a commonplace laser printer like you would find at Office Max or in a home? What paper do they use? Note: Digital downloads are typically just pulled from the internet with no work done to improve their appearance. Mistinguett (1875 – 1956) was a French actress and singer, whose birth name was Jeanne Florentine Bourgeois. She was at one time the best-paid female entertainer in the world. Here, we selected 20 beautilful vintage posters of Mistinguett from the 1920s and 1930s.
This poster was done in an Art Nouveau style to promote Tempus Fugit Spirits, an importer of Absinthes re-created from recipes of the 1800's, back before Absinthe was outlawed. The Green Fairy floats inside an Absinthe glass, as the louché swirls around her. And on her sash are the names of some of the products the company imported at the time.
