About The Artwork The charcoal/pastel medium allows for the artist to capture the beauty, contours and unique appearance of skin. The work, created by the moving of pastel powder around the paper, heavily relies on the play of lightness and darkness created by the precise removal of the medium. The looseness of the marks allow for the movement and vibrancy that is captured in the work. These modern portraits combine the overall abstract style with the detail of the human face, transfixing the viewer.
