If you like wines, then you have plenty of these lying around. I made a square bulletin board with our first collection of corks. When a hoop came loose on one of our wine barrel cocktail tables in the garden I had another idea. See our Mannenkin Pis? You can buy your own here This project takes quite a few corks if you lay them on end like I did. I could not have done this without the help of my friends! I received help in drinking the wine and also by donation. Once you tell your friends that you are collecting you will be amazed on the corks that will come your way. My first thought was to just hold the corks in with tension. Wrong...since the hoop is made out of metal it flexed as the corks created pressure against the edges. I ended up adding a layer of glue to the back and that has kept them in place over the last year in earthquake country. If you cannot find a hoop suitable to use there are a few different kits on the market that have a round wooden frame. I do not see using this as a bulletin board anytime soon. We enjoy the cork display as wall art. Now what to do with my new growing collection of corks? Cheers, Amy

After years of making amazing wines (which I'm SURE you have enjoyed) these barrels are retired and taken to my shop to take on mew life as art and furniture. Carefully taken apart and dried for up to a year before it is sanded and finished with natural organic food grade Tung oil to protect it for a lifetime of use. The "Barana" handrail is standard only in length. It has remarkable movement in each piece drawing the eye upwards on a staircase. Years of wine producing have aged this wood with all the striations of color from drawing the rich wine. Each piece is hand stripped and sanded silky smooth. These retired wine barrels have brought joy to millions of wine drinkers, and although their wine making days are behind them, their distinctive character lasts on. With some careful shaping and finishing, each piece becomes a work of art suitable for warming the heart of a true wine lover. The notch you see is where the barrel head sat and its location is purely due to length. Some lengths both are up, some both down, and some are one up one down, it just depends on length. It makes no difference structurally which way they face as its purely decorative at this point and I love keeping the fine details of the original barrel intact to preserve its history and character. We start with retired wine barrels and dry them or up to a year before we carefully cut them into thee strips and bolt them securely to a custom backing. The wine stained oak faces out to enhance its warm glow for a truly delightful effect. Beautiful and elegant, it highlights the dark red wine color and the graceful curve of the barrel itself. Securely bolted together and covered in several layers of a clear UV sealer, it is ready to hang in your wine cellar or to bring wine country into your home or business. Can be hung horizontally or vertically. The deep red of the staves, earned during years of wine production, really stands out and the wine barrel rings lend a wonderful design element. Reminiscent of the Craftsman design period at the end of the 19th century, The "Odessa" has wonderful design, delightful shadows and fabulous texture.
