tangle patterns: ponio & winflo
I tried meditation as a means to relax and recharge but I find my mind wandering and obstructing the process. With Zentangle I suddenly find myself breathing calmly, focusing on one line at a time …

We celebrated fives this week in "It's a String Thing" #91 to honor Linda Farmer's TanglePatterns fifth anniversary. We used my string based on the Roman numeral five and three related tangles. To add to the theme, yesterday's Mother's Day date was "all about the fives" - May 10, 2015 or 5-10-15. Let's take a look at the results ~ The first tile arrived from Brie Zobel ~ Really liked the string with the selected tangles this week. They meshed quite well. Once I looked up the various tangles, the entire Zentangle easily formed in my mind. I'm very pleased with this one. While a Zentangle is supposed to be viewed by any angle, the entire time I was working this, I worked top down with the string as given. Upon finishing it, there was much more balance flipping it on its head. I kept the shading minimal on this, I think it really highlights the very geometric, almost art-decoish nature of the tile. Tangled Tidbits - *wonderful assessment of her shading *a Zin triangle *Vano circles in 2-n-5 From Talia Maynard ~ I love the simplicity of this week's string and I decided to take on a monotangle of Vano. I may have gotten a little carried away with this one and have ended up with a slightly psychedelic tile, but it was fun! Tangled Tidbits - *monotangle turned ZIA with the addition of vibrant colors *change in direction of the detail lines *sparkled centers From Ilse Lukken ~ Here's my entry for this week! You can find it on my blog as well Tangled Tidbits - *large 2-n-5 *horizontally shaded 2-n-5 *wonderful white circle accented by black, shaded, and lined spaces of Vano With "lovely greets" from Carmela ~ I liked this V string and the patterns fitt very well. It was very relaxing and zen to draw this tile. Thanks again. On my blog. Tangled Tidbits - *angled 2-n-5 *Zin shaded at the points *jewel like center of Vano From Sarah Antoinette~ This challenge I enjoyed and wished I was better at using space to have used all three somehow. But it was a good exercise and fun to do as usual! [on my blog] Tangled Tidbits - *tangled on gray paper, highlighted and shaded *Vano tucked under one string line and pushed out passed another *white Zin triangles From Lori Byerly~ I love celebrations! So nice to celebrate both TanglePatterns.com and Cinco de Mayo in one big splash of 5's. You can find my tile here also. Tangled Tidbits - *Vano incorporated with Zin and 2-n-5 *2-n-5 circles *fabulous shading Daniel Lamothe sent this tile~ With my thoughts and prayers for those affected by today's tornadoes. * And a few days later followed up with this ~ First, I have to apologize for the less-than-optimal quality of the photos...this was such a fun challenge ^_^ After the somewhat somber tone of my first submission, here are some lighter-hearted ones. To me, the string just screamed to have the tangles the deconstruct in the middle and regroup on the sides. The first tile just uses Zin, with the string turned upside down. It so reminded me of "London Bridge is Falling Down" that I just had to add some stick figures. Unfortunately at this quality you can't really see the details. Oh well. The second tile just uses 2-N-5 and a "tile-within–a-tile." Such fun! ^_^ Tangled Tidbits - *spiraled 2-n-5 *playful idea for 2-n-5 and Zin From Audrie Weisenfelder ~ This one was surprisingly easy. On my blog Tangled Tidbits - *beautiful white on black *grid lines of 2-n-5 and Zin radiate from Vano *curved grid lines aura from 2-n-5 From Lily Moon ~ Tangled Tidbits - *gorgeous variations of the tangles *deep black spaces for Vano with light accents *Zin in rare form with curved lines and perfs From K.Bish ~ Enclosed please find my newest tangle " Sunshine on my Shoulders" I loved this tangle. Thank you! Tangled Tidbits - *three 2-n-5 tangleations *lighter tangels to one side *accents of gray marker From Ragged Ray~ After last week's clunky efforts things went more smoothly this time. The tangles were all in a friendly mood, happy to talk to each other and tell me what they wanted me to do with them. 2-N-5 fancied the most change - it sort of sucked itself together to create a more dense tangle. Zin wanted to be liberated from a grid and be given the crowning spot at the top of the tile. And lovely Vano was happy to hold up the entire structure. And there it all was. Like a pennant hanging still in the air. Apt at this time of suspense as we in the UK wait to see what form of new government we have voted in! Tangled Tidbits - *an elegant description of her tile *dense and dainty lines for 2-n-5 *sublime shading and sparkle A very warm welcome to Tina Kirchhübel ~ It's the first time for me that I draw a tile for a challenge. I already read your blog for a few weeks but never find the time to participate. But this week I wanted to try and that's the result. Best regards from Saxony in Germany Tangled Tidbits - *two tangleations of Vano in opposing corners *super shading *a 'V' of Zin beautifully outlined and shaded From Tabitha Barnett ~ Thanks for the awesome challenge again! Generally, when I sit down to do any of the challenges, I have to think about it for a while. This one was different, it just flowed out of me! I'm not sure that you can actually say that I used ZIN, but there's elements of it in there. I'm looking forward to the other entries, as usual. Thanks again for your wonderful challenge and for taking the time to respond to each entry, I love that. You can check out my other tangles on pinterest, if you'd like Tabby's Tangles..comments, critiques and followers are always welcome and very appreciated! Tangled Tidbits - *Zin in Vano *carefully aura-ed dark triangles of Vano *lovely shading From Sidney Kapinos ~ This week's challenge proved to be very challenging indeed. I had not drawn any of the three tangles before. It took some thought to figure out how to arrange the tangles in the string. At last I remembered an illustration in Sandy Bartholomew's "Yoga For Your Brain" where she flipped the fill colors for a tangle, and this inspired me. In her tangle Zusafürn, she alternated the fill colors based on a grid, but for Vano I chose to flip the colors based on the boundaries of the string. It was a lot of fun and I'm pleased with the result. My entry for It's A String Thing #91 is attached. Looking forward to seeing all of this week's tiles. Tangled Tidbits - *great adaptation of Sandy's suggestion *pleasing balance of light and dark *2-n-5 circles congregating on the outskirts of Zin A very warm welcome to Shirleen Long~ Tangled Tidbits - *dynamic dimension achieved with shading and stipple *curved lines for 2-n-5 *vibrant Vano From Beth Broadway~ Whew, after a few tiles, I still needed more work...but here is the submission. 2 N 5 was my challenging tangle for this one...Thanks for shoving me out of comfort zone Tangled Tidbits - *stippled center of Vano *dark circles and dots for 2-n-5 From Joanne Hawes ~ I'm having fun with the 5 thing this week. Wow tanglepatterns.com is 5. Happy birthday ( be lost without it!) . It's also my 5th wedding anniversary today more 5's :). So these tangles were all new to me I'm liking vano can see more possibilities for that one. I really need to practise grid based patterns any tips for making the triangle (& diamond based) grids?? As you can see my zin has ended up with 2 different triangles (? Hehe I don't know how?, but I prefer the 'longer' triangles on the right). Looking forward to next week not long until the 100th one exciting ! Tangled Tidbits - *Happy 5th Anniversary! *2-n-5 tucked into Vano *alternating dark and dimensional triangles for Zin From Kerstin Schreck ~ here`s my entry for the challenge #91. I had a lot of fun to draw three patterns I`ve never drawn before. :) You can find my tangle also on my blog. Tangled Tidbits- *a dream catcher look for Vano *sparkled perf string line *rows of 2-n-5 make the simple tangle shine From Carol Bourret ~ Am thinking some beautiful calligraphy would have looked great here, but the important thing was to say "Thank You!" to Linda for a fabulous website. And once again, thank you for the opportunity to give our creative brain cells a good s-t-r-e-t-c-h. Tangled Tidbits- *a wonderful tribute for Linda *thin, delicate lines of Vano contrast well with the black and shaded white spaces *fabulous string line of 2-n-5 with inter-woven aura From Portia Hyde~ Looking at it this way reminds me of a kimono. Tangled Tidbits - *arced layers of beautiful tangles *shaded patterns and spaces *the tangles alternate along the arcs with just the perfect touch of black From Deb Jacobs ~ ...Thanks for the challenge. Simple string...3 new patterns. I used zin & vano & verve. I found verve a while back on Tangle patterns & just love using it on black tiles. Happy Friday to you!! And she followed up with this ~ I loved this challenge so much that I had to do a second go round! Although truly I must confess that in the wee hours of the morning, when Mr. Sandman is nowhere to be seen, i've found that doing some tangles is a remarkable way to clear my mind! Tangling, I've found is a remarkable cure for post-dental surgery discomfort. Happy weekend to you!! Tangled Tidbits - *a treat to see both black and white tiles and with different orientations for the string *a pop of purple for Vano *fun finishes for the border lines A very warm welcome to Linda Fristoe~ My first entry for It's a String Thing! I've only been tangling a few weeks, but I'm in love. I struggle with grid-based tangles, and I know I need to practice, but I thought I'd use Vano as my underlying structure. How surprised I was when I stepped back and saw Tuxes and Ties and Ballroom Gowns! Thank you for an opportunity to grow with tangling! (I've looked thru some of your old challenges. I think I'll try to work thru some! ) Tangled Tidbits - * that is a treat of an image - makes me here wonderful music! *great balance of black, white, and delicate lines From Susan Szathmary~ I did this earlier today - I didn't quite have vano memorized do here is the result ...Also I only had one pen with me at the time -(and it's just about used up.) I like how it looks like an eye peeking through! Tangled Tidbits ~ *sparkled lines and dots of 2-n-5 *a great eye overseeing the tangles :) *lovely lines From Jenny H. in Australia ~ I've been tangling for about four weeks and have finally begun to find the peace that four years of suffering from depression has taken away. I discovered your site yesterday and thought I would have a go at the challenge. I'm still learning. All of these tangles were new to me 12 hours ago! A heartfelt thank you to you and the other tanglers whose generosity in sharing their knowledge and inspiration makes such a huge difference to the lives of people like me. Tangled Tidbits ~ *your sharing makes a huge difference in our lives as well *super shading, especially of 2-n-5 *nice concentration of black in the middle of the string* From CZT Lucy Banta~ Greetings from California! Here's my tile this week, which I created on the plane ride across the USA. A little turbulence and shaky lines, but that's the glory of Zentangle--anything goes Happy Mother's Day! And thank you for this tangle opportunity! Tangled Tidbits - *a perf border *a terrific tangleation of 2-n-5 complete with Knightsbridge *sublime shading From Michele Wynne ~ It's been a busy couple of weeks and I've missed some challenges so I'm happy to have finished this one. I've come across Vano in other challenges and I seem to enjoy using it as a string. This was a fun challenge and very relaxing to draw. Tangled Tidbits - *vibrant Vano variation *rays of Zin *nice light touch of 2-n-5 A very warm welcome to Becky Welty. She dubbed her tile "Spring Day". Tangled Tidbits - *beautiful ZIA of spring colors *spiraled center of Vano *uniform weight of the lines is very pretty From Ingrid Coventon ~ Drawing this ST # 91 tile was really fun this week. I loved to do Vano. It went so smooth. Happy Mother's Day to you and all tangling moms! Tangled Tidbits - *gorgeous gray spaces *bold black Vano floats to the foreground *Vano morphs with 2-n-5 From Jane Glotzer ~ Good Afternoon from a soggy Colorado...it's been raining for days and days and folks around here are starting to get nervous...in September 2013 we had a 1000 year major flood disaster! Snow is predicted for tomorrow, Mother's Day!! String thing #91 was a quick study for me...I actually had my piece done by Thursdaynight, but somehow spaced out sending it in yesterday, so here I am in my usual Saturday afternoon slot--:) I love Vano, and started there in the center...used a couple of separated out pieces of 2 in 5 to surround it...a touch of basic Zin and a little shading to finish. I considered turning it upside down from your original string because the Zin looked like a curtain with Vano peeking out, but in the end, I photographed it with the "V" right side up. Sending wishes for a very happy mother's day to you and all the tangling mothers! Tangled Tidbits - *simple and elegant shaded and lined background of Vano *curves of 2-n-5 *neat rows of Zin From CZT Tabitha Bedoukian ~ Here's my contribution for this week's challenge. I liked it and wanted to do a second tile since I thought of more creative things to do, but predictably, life is too busy and I didn't get to it. :) I love pulling elements of a pattern into the other patterns, which I did with the circles with the dots in the middle from 2-in-5 into Vano and Zin. And Zin escaping the grid on it's own, because I have been wanting to try Footlights but keep forgetting! lol Oh, and I LOVE your pantry!! Glorious surface. I, too, would have looked for a long time before deciding what to do with this canvas. It makes me happy to know you would have done the same! Tangled Tidbits - *fabulous Footlight and Zin tanglation *aura for the dots of 2-n-5 *sparkled center arc lines of Vano From J L Johnson ~ Here is my response to this week's challenge. Tangled Tidbits - *triangular rays of Vano *large and lovely patterns *sparkled circles of 2-n-5 From Shayrn Penna ~ Happy Mother's day weekend and happy zeniversary to Linda Farmer at TanglePatterns! I mashed together Zin and Vano. With 2N5 I turned an oops into a design ... It's crazy how mistakes blend into the tiles. At the peak of the triangle my spacing was off so I added large orbs to the blank squares and some Beadline to the lined squares ... there's a second minor oops that pretty much blends in. Such a great tangle mix. Cheers to all the moms! Tangled Tidbits - *circular lines give a three dimensional look *seamless blend of Zin and Vano *beautiful shading and bravo for capitalizing on creative opportunities! From Christina Luis - and here on her blog as well ~ Tangled Tidbits - *doubled arcs for Vano - great idea! *exaggerated spacing for 2-n-5 *smooth lines of Zin From Felicity Strohfeldt ~ ...Fabulous challenge that reminded me of my love for beautiful stain glassed windows in the world’s cathedrals. Inspired, I took to colouring Vano by Anneke and shaded Zin by Linda and 2-n-5 by Anita and they remind me of the strong, textured stone and masonry that forms the mountings for the beautiful stain glass art of the holy places. Hope you like it. I enjoyed doing it. On my blogYour pantry idea looks great. Sure you will return often to the other white surfaces so tantalizing in the purity. As always, that was beautifully stated, Felicity... Tangled Tidbits - *rays of glorious sunshine peeking through Vano *2-n-5 radiating from a point *lovely images from Felicity's description From Cathy Cusson ~ This challenge was fun, but I really wish I hadn’t started with the color. But once I began, it was too late to back out. Tangled Tidbits - *a pretty colored ZIA *cleverly blended 2-n-5 and Vano From Susan Theron~ This was a fun challenge. Also on my blog. Tangled Tidbits - *beautiful burst of Vano *2-n-5 in Vano *light and dark triangles of Zin From Annie Taylor ~ Here in Spain, it is very hot and today has been our little village 'fiesta'. All the village gathers together and eats in the square. And afterwards there are games and competitions for the children and then dancing til the early hours. I did find time to do this week's challenge though. It was relaxing to do but I didn't find it very inspiring - a bit spiky and triangular for my taste. However, it's important to remember VE Day in some way and Zentangle is a good way to do it. Thanks so much for the challenge. I am sure there will be some very inspired versions. Tangled Tidbits - *"spiky and triangular" are softened with shading and curves *terrific tipple *curved lines for 2-n-5 From HeidiSue ~ This was a fun challenge, because two of the tangles suggested were completely new to me (Vano and Zin) while 2 n 5 is one I've practiced but not used much. I ended up using Zin and 5N2, but I know Vano will be a good one to put in a circular themed piece. The V in the middle of this string cried out for a 3-D treatment, and when I was done shading the little triangular elements, the idea for making my 2N5 came to me. Looking at it, the piece kind of reminds me of a sporting event at a high school. You have the lockers, and maybe the school emblem? I wonder what their colors would be! ha! Tangled Tidbits - *great analogy! *wonderful curves for Zin *weighted lines of the inner triangles of Zin add depth From CZT Brenda Urbanik ~ I found a bit of time to play so here is my tile and my blog link. Tangled Tidbits - *welcome back Brenda! *fabulous curves *pretty perpendicular lines for Vano And now, the tile for honors this week was sent in by Sandra from Germany! With "many greetings from Germany", Sandra writes ~ ...many thanks for that wonderful challenge! When I started I had a certain idea but in the end the tile looked totally different ;-) It was a great fun to tangle it! And I really love the pattern Vano that I didn't know before :-) In my blog... Tangled Tidbits - *and amphitheater of vibrant tangles *radiating circular pattern grids *sensational shading Congratulations, Sandra! I have a little something coming in the mail for you. Many thanks to the creative minds behind the tangles we used with my string~ Zin by CZT Linda Farmer 2-n-5 by CZT Anita Roby-Lavery Vano by Anneke Sieben Check back Tuesday afternoon for "It's a String Thing" #92!
Draw tangles to create beautiful art. Easy to learn, fun to draw, great to relax...be creative to your heart's content.
This week we tangled our way into the Christmas spirit with a triangular shaped string and filled it with Maria Thomas' elegant Auqafleur pattern. Grab a cup of cheer and enjoy these festive tiles from around the world. The first arrived from CZT Joan Delony (Florida) ~ Tangled Tidbits - *beautiful contrast between the thick, black lines and thinner red detail lines *delicate touches added in sparkle, shading, and dots From Sarah at hungarycorgistudio (Michigan) ~ Hope I did this half way decent! It's a lot to fit into a tree! It was great practice and is an amazing tangle. Thanks! and a few days later... Just thought I'd 'give' you a tree I'd been practicing on on a dreary day. The green was fun. Tangled Tidbits - *aura-ed spaces between lines of Aquafleur *pretty green paper on one and green marker on the other From smgg (Taiwan) ~ Tangled Tidbits - *variety of line embellishments - sparkle, stipple, dots *soft shading From Ilse Lukken (The Netherlands) and here on her blog ~ My tree looks quite simple, but nice to me :-) I'm curious what other tanglers created! Tangled Tidbits - *consistent tangle variation yields a gorgeous tree *shaded background makes the white spaces pop From Bhamathi (Bangalore, India) and here on her blog ~ Thanks for another fun challenge! This week has all been about monotangle trees. CZT Dilip Patel who is my teacher happened to host the Guest challenge on Diva's blog. It too was to create a monotangle tree.. Lovely coincidence right!! :) Coming to my tile, I started off and drew the Aquafleur. But felt like using some color. And then before I knew it, my whole tree was colored.. And its not a monotangle tile either.. I ended up adding some Ahh, CO2 , Diva dance to make it more festive.. Also a letter 'S' border.. I got carried away and you can't blame me!! I do love when that happens :) Tangled Tidbits - *white sparkle shows up beautifully against the greens *colors add to the festive feel From Kathi (New Jersey) ~ I am not sure my Aquafleurs quite make the grade, but the result is festive, none the less! Tangled Tidbits - *Aquafleur "makes the grade" because you tangled it :) *pops of Printemps ornaments A very warm welcome to Hilary Merola (Chicago, Illinois) ~ ...Up until this past July I never even knew what a Zentangle was. But thanks to you and so many others, I've been learning and practicing. I know my work and my photography isn't the same quality as what I see in your weekly challenge. But I'm sending it to you anyway, just as a thank you for all the inspiration you provide. Best wishes for a happy holiday season... Kudos to you for joining in! We all learn from each other and I am sure you are inspiring many tanglers to do the same. Tangled Tidbits - * perfs decorate Aquafleur lines *shading unites the individual tangles From Joanne Faherty (United Kingdom) ~ I love aquafleur but it doesn't come out as pretty as carole's one I can see how that has been stuck in your head its beautiful. This is my second try this week wasnt to happy with how the first came out. I like this one esp with the touches of gold gel pen Tangled Tidbits - *fabulous take on the string - left as white space with an Aqufleur background *lovely touches of gold From Beth Gaughan (North Carolina) ~ Here is my tile for this week's challenge. I had never tried Aquafleur before. I really love the tangle, although I think mine looks more like peppermint candies. But that's fitting for the season so it all works out. Tangled Tidbits - *Tippled back drop for Aquafleur *wispy lines soften the edges From Kate (United Kingdom) ~ My contribution to this weeks tangle challenge - I've added red and a touch of silver to give a more festive touch! Tangled Tidbits - *swirling Auquafleur *pretty shading and red perfs A very warm welcome to Deepti Jois (Bangalore, India) ~ I saw your challenge posted by Bhamathi Pai on the Zentangle India Facebook page. Tangled Tidbits - *lovely layering of the tangle *an Aquafleur package under the tree From Victoria (St. Petersburg, Russia) and here on her blog ~ Challenge on this week appeared to me complicated. I dearly love Aquafleur... But a lot of this pattern in the sizes of the tiles, and even in the triangle - it's very small and hard work. It's late, I realized that it was better to take a large sheet of paper. In general, turned, in my opinion, very "heavy" picture. I draw the tree first, and then decided to make the night sky around, but I turned fireworks :) Tangled Tidbits - *mesmerizing orb filled spaces of Aquafleur *superb sparkle throughout From Cathy Cusson ~ I was not sure I could use aquafleur as a “filler”, but I loved doing it!! This is something i will try again (and again). So neat to use a tangle in a way that is not something I am used to. Tangled Tidbits - *green sparkled Aquafleur *softness added with just a touch of shading From Sara Belmont-Kleingeld (Western Australia) ~ This was a quick and easy one so I did two! Tangled Tidbits - *elegant simplicity in both variations *shading adds roundness From Karin (Germany) ~ this is my entry to challenge no. 121! I really like “Aquafleur”! I had not used it more then once per tile but it was absolutely amazing how this tile developed… To be on the safe side I took a picture in black and white before colouring the pattern because I didn´t know if I would like colours… but I do! I wish you a homely second sunday of Advent! Greetings from Germany Tangled Tidbits - *a wonderful opportunity to see progression in a tangle * fine lines and color make the tangle shine From Jennifer Sparrow (North Carolina) ~ Happy Saturday! "Work on Aquafleur" was on the top of this week's to-do list. I knew I needed a lot of practice in order to make a Christmas tree with it! Well, as you can see, I never got to practice! Instead, I dove right in this morning, not wanting to leave a string thing hanging! I promise you I'll keep working on it! I didn't really understand how Maria manages to have it swirl in on itself at the end, but upon a second look, I think I see now. Hindsight's 20/20! Tangled Tidbits - *best advice for tangling is to "dive right in" - well done! *softly shaded string lines and sparkled Aquafleur From Juul (France) ~ Chère Adèle Finally I send you a tile. But I know it is not finished again. The last weeks I always started but couldn't really finish so I didn't send you anything.....but that doesn't feel good so now I send you what I have... ....right now the sun is going down and I see a marvelous red sky with silhouettes of leafless trees. Beautiful! Tangled Tidbits - *uniquely beautiful take on the string line and tangle *added dimension as Aquafleur wraps around the string From Ingrid (The Netherlands) ~ Oh, how I loved every minute tangling this tile! But it's a pity the colors don't show up as they are. The baubles were drawn in dark red with a glitter gelly roll pen. The star has it's shine too, but you don't see it. I tried to make several pictures to capture the glittery effect, but sorry, I did not succeed. You have to imagine the glitters yourself. Thank you so much for this fun moment. Have a blessed week, with lots of love! Tangled Tidbits ~ *Aquafleur is shaded from the center and dots trail off at the tangle's edges *curves of Aquafleur lines seem to hold the glittery baubles From Sidney Kapinos (Virginia) and here on her blog ~ I loved this week's string thing challenge! Aquafleur has been one of those elusive tangles for me — a difficult one to learn how to draw. I have tried it any number of times and never felt like I had it right.Your challenge was what I needed as motivation to practice the pattern enough to make a nice Aquafleur tile. Plus I also like the Christmas tree theme. As always, thank you so much for hosting the weekly challenges. I look forward to seeing all of the entries each week, and to reading your excellent Tangled Tidbits. Best wishes for a joyous holiday season, Tangled Tidbits - *alternating - and very festive - red and green layers of Aquafleur *Aquafleur spaces are defined with a black line From Wanda Amrose (Virginia) ~ Hi, from Chesapeake, Va. With Christmas quickly approaching, this weeks challenge was a lot of fun. It was very relaxing in between Christmas shopping, gift wrapping and decorating, to work on the Christmas Tree. As always, a work in progress!! Hope everyone is doing well as the holidays are busy times. Tangled Tidbits - *pretty use of aura *pops of red and deep shading From Linda Goncalves (Pennsylvania) ~ I had a lot of fun this week with this one. Tangled Tidbits - *wonderful shapes of Aquafleur *added details of line, perf, color, and shading From CZT midori (Florida) ~ 'though my rendition of aquafleur is short of 'fleurs', imagine them in their budding stages, still retaining the essence of its original tangle. so, my noel tree looks like a cupcake?!...frosted with snowy sugar... peace and joy Tangled Tidbits - *simple and ever so elegant swaths of Aquafleur *a touch of sparkled baubles all topped with a shining Ahh From Audrie Weisenfelder (Tucson, Arizona) and here on her blog ~ This turned out to be an unusual but fun challenge. Aquafleur is another one of my favorites; so I really enjoyed doing it. I played around with it for a while, and finally came up with something I kind of like. Tangled Tidbits - *fabulous depth created with shading and sparkle *straight string lines contrast with graceful curves of the tangle From Marla Mendenhall (California) ~ Zentangle. It's in my heart, it's in my brain. It's in my blood. I'm obsessed (or is it possessed). Life interrupts my daily schedule and I go for a couple days without drawing. Bingo. I wake in the middle of the night from a dream about tangling: where to put this pattern or that, which pen to choose, another line, more shading. Then I just have to draw, and the flat tire on the car can wait. This was a wonderful challenge this week. I wish I'd had more time to perfect my stroke and play with different treatments for Aquafleur, but life happens. At least I got one tile completed, and I'm quite pleased with the result. (And I love when numbers align, too. Maybe we're sisters of different mothers, eh?) Once again, Marla's words ring true. I think that it is a safe bet to say that we all share the same obsession/possession! Tangled Tidbits ~ *lush layers of Aquafleur - details just at the tips and through the centers *perfs bubble out and into the starry sky From Shazz (India) ~ HELLO ALL..... here is a single aqua fluer!!!...looking like a christmas tree..... i am printing this on a photopaper for my sons 2nd bday, which is on christmas....these days i have a great interest of incorporating gems and falling leaves in my zen art. thanx for the opportunity... have fun with zen Tangled Tidbits - *Auafleur emerges from the string point downward *a party of streamers and leaves in the background HAPPY BIRTHDAY to your little one! From Karina L'Estrelle (Perth, Australia) ~ Tangled Tidbits - *curved tangle inside a straight edged one *little dots make a big impact From Annie Taylor (Spain) ~ Sorry it's been a while since I took part, though I never fail to check the weekly challenge and enjoy all the lovely entries. I really like this week's challenge and remember the incredible original tree done by Carole. I was delighted to have your instructions and am very pleased with how mine has turned out even if it doesn't reach Carole's standard. I will continue practicing and enjoying the process in true Zentangle fashion. Getting into the Christmas spirit too, although here in sunny Spain, there's much less hype than in the US and the UK. It's busy olive picking season and not the most frivolous of times. Tangled Tidbits - *shading stands out on the gorgeous gold toned paper *highlights run the length of the tangles black lines From Susan Theron (South Africa) and here on her blog ~ Here is my contribution. I had to add some sparkle in the form of Ahh (Zentangle)! I sometime have difficulty with Aquafleur, especially in such small spaces. Tangled Tidbits - *multiple fine lines *superb sparkle and shading From Sharyn Penna (Massachusetts) ~ I love the ornament step out and can't wait to create one for our tree. You make it look so easy! It's crazy how we put ideas aside and forget to return to them. This week's prompt is one I've thought of doing since I saw Carole Ohl's masterpiece and CZT Tricia Farone's beautiful Aquafleur heart here. Your prompt triggered my memory ... I borrowed Tricia's technique in the center of my tree. I love how Aquafleur takes control of the thought process. Mooka jumps out at the in-betweens along with tiny orbs. This prompt took the pressure off of creating the card I was going to send out this year ... I'll put it away for safe keeping and will send my response to this week's prompt instead. You're the best! Cheers! Tangled Tidbits - *wonderful wrap around effect - and thank you for the reference *stipple, tipple, Mooka, added line weight, and a Zinger topper - fantastic! From Elisa (Paris, France) ~ I really loved your Christmas tree challenge, even though I still struggle to master the aquafleur pattern ! I could not refrain from adding a few shiny red decorations and a kind of star at the top ! Zen regards... Tangled Tidbits - *such personality for a tangle! - simply sweet *an Aquafleur trunk, tree, and star From Becky Welty (North Carolina) ~ Tangled Tidbits - *a beautiful Christmas Zendala *festive touch added with color - green lines and shading From Felicity Strohfeldt (South Africa) and here on her blog ~ Thank you for a challenging challenge this week. My attempt needed some good Aquafleur practice, before I got started. I had an enjoyable experience with Maria’s beautiful tangle and couldn’t resist adding Xmas-red by Lin Chiu and multi-coloured Christmas lights. Tangled Tidbits - *a very colorful, celebratory ZIA *billowing Aquafleur with added perfs, sparkle and shading From Michele Wynne (California) and here on her blog ~ Thank you for another wonderful challenge. I've not used "Aquafleur" before. I love it, but it demands lots of practice. I was heavily influenced and inspired by Carol Ohl's beautiful tree and went with a little larger format. My tree's a bit lop-sided, but I guess that just adds to its whimsy;-) Tangled Tidbits - *Aquafleur shines with sparkle and blue shading *gorgeous, glassy, gem inspired perfs This is my tile ~ I wanted to keep the tangle very light and added Gelly Roll metallic gold touches. And now, the tile for honors this week was sent in by Lily from Hungary with a "zenhug" and can also be found here on her post ~ Tangled Tidbits - *sublime shading - notice how the tree appears to tilt up from the paper *elegant swirls of Aquafleur *festive strings of red perfs stand out against the subtle touches of green and brown\ *gold filled Ahh stars Thank you all for spreading the Christmas cheer this week by sending in your precious art work. Many thanks to Zentangle® co-founder Maria Thomas for the tangle Aquafleur. Stop by tomorrow for "It's a String Thing" #122!

Hello and welcome back to thetirelesstangler.com where we don’t sleep, we just continually draw, tangle, and write without cease! I’m very excited to release the step out of my deconstr…
What a treat is was this week to play with two new(ish) tangles from two members of our IAST community. The challenge proved to be a soothing, zen-like experience and loads of fun. Lets take a look ~ The first tile arrived from Vonnie Schneider (St. Paul, Minnesota) ~ As I was tangling this tile I felt a disconnect between the string and Delys, as well as Clob and Delys. But, at the same time they all fit together. It wasn’t until I grabbed the grey marker instead of the light blue marker that I saw the connection between them. Many years ago I owned a grey sweatshirt that had A Swedish embroidered design (the most comfortable sweatshirt I might add...I miss it so!). The design kind of reminded me of Delys. Then I looked at Clob...tan corduroy pants ( also comfy and missed!) Who knew one could find an old memory in a tangle! Thanks! Tangled Tidbits - ..."an old memory in a tangle"... That is a sweet thought. *alternating tangles divided by weighted string lines *soft colors, pretty Delys From Shirley Wohlsen (Queensland, Australia) ~ Love this week’s Tangles, they are so versatile. I tangled my tile with the string in the position you drew it Adele, but after I’d finished I turned it sideways And I’m now not sure which way I prefer it. Tangled Tidbits - *beautifully delicate Delys *Clob flows from several points and along the string's channels From Trudi (Woodview, Ontario, Canada) ~ I missed last week and I'm going to miss next week! Darn I do so look forward to this. Loved the two Tangles this week, thanks for all your hard work Adele! Tangled Tidbits - I am happy that you join in when you are able! *Clob filled Delys *background and center Clob run perpendicular From Tonia C (Rhode Island) ~ This was am interesting string. I thought I would be using #Clob more given the string design, then changed my mind. I also added some #CO2 with a silver metallic glaze pen as I felt it needed a little "bling". Thanks for this week's challenge! Tangled Tidbits - *three variations of Delys *Ahh adds lightness From Sandra (Germany) and here on her blog ~ thank you so much for this inspiring challenge! When I saw clob the first time I just wanted to try it but I didn't manage it so far. So your challenge came just in the right moment ;-) I had a lot of fun with the string and the two new-for-me patterns. Tangled Tidbits - *Clob outlined and filled string spaces - pretty variations features stripes and sparkle *blossoms of Delys and lovely perfs From CZT Ria Matheussen (Belgium) ~ Here is my entry for the 215 th challenge with (for me) 2 lovely new tangles. I've made my drawing on watercoloured paper and coloured a bit more with ordinary pencils. When I finished the job, I took a picture while putting my tile on another watercoloured bigger one. I like both patterns and I am glad I could use them, thanks to you. Kind regards from Belgium Tangled Tidbits - *Clob spiral and swirls in lovely shades *alternating Delys From Margarete Gilge (Germany) and here on her blog ~ I like your given string for this week’s challenge because there are many ways to use it. The two patterns I knew but didn’t use them often. So I could practise them again. My two versions you can find on my blog Thank you for this interesting challenge! Best wishes from Germany Tangled Tidbits - *pretty details for Delys - cluster of four is beautiful *striped and sparkled Clob From CZT Lin H (Florida) ~ Thanks for your challenge this week that included two new patterns for me, Clob and Delys. I really like them both. I’m looking forward, as always, to seeing everyone else’s results. Tangled Tidbits - *wonderful shading brings dimension to Clob and Delys *white space compliments the tangles From Susan (United Kingdom) ~ Here is this week’s tile. It was very soothing drawing all those furrows. I think it looks like a ploughed field. Tangled Tidbits - *aura, shading, and dark spaces for Delys *multiple directions for Clob clusters From VenaC (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) ~ Two tangles I had never done before. Enjoyed the challenge. Thanks Adele for doing one every week. Tangled Tidbits - *single and double Clob lined strings, aura-ed, shaded *two shades of blue for Delys From Hilary (Chicago) ~ Isn't it funny how things turn out? I looked at Clob and thought I didn't like it. But once I started doing it, I had a lot of fun with it and couldn't stop! As you can see, I barely left any room for Delys which is a fine pattern. One of these days I want to do more with it, and I hope a few people made it the star of their tile this week. I'm looking forward to that. As always, thanks for everything! Tangled Tidbits - *Delys is the delightful star of this tile - three times over *Clob shines in four variations From Lisette (Switzerland) ~ Both patterns were new to me and I like both a lot, Clob even better. I’ve been playing with the twested rope lately and think it’s fantastic what you can do with it. In Switzerland we are enjoying wonderful goldy autumne days. I am so grateful for this, when I see what’s going on weatherwise worldwide. And I hope that no-one is affected by fire or water nor wind. God bless. Tangled Tidbits - I second that wish, thank you Lisette. *spirals of Clob border the tile *elegant Delys variation From Lori Byerly (Washington State) and here on her blog ~ So fun to have a challenge with two new patterns. Thanks for all you do. Tangled Tidbits - *mirrored Delys with lovely curls that repeat along the border and Clob *soft shading and just a touch of weighted line From Elena (Russia) ~ Here is my string thing 215. I really like these bundles, ropes and worms. Paper thinned with watercolor. Liked! Tangled Tidbits - *dainty Delys graces the center *beautiful strands of Clob - weighted edges, stripes an sparkle From Lynn G (Florida) ~ Thanks for the challenge Adele. Clob certainly was zenfull, I really enjoyed the challenge. Tangled Tidbits - *gorgeous highlight and soft shading of Clob *pretty light and dark variation of Delys From Ingrid (The Netherlands) ~ In the attachment my IAST # 215 tile. My scanner shows the tile blacker than it is in reality. I tried to lighten it up, but that was no succes. Anyway, it was nice to play with these, new to me, tangles. Have a very lovely and blessed birthday and I will be thinking of you! Tangled Tidbits - Thank you! I was trying to sneak passed my birthday, but you caught me! We'll play with it a bit tomorrow in IAST #216 😉 Happy birthday to you, too! *deep shading gives wonderful depth to Clob *dotted Delys creates a lovely backdrop From Joke Leussenkamp (The Netherlands) ~ After last week's surprise, winning the IAST #214 challenge, I could not resist too take another go with this one!! Because of other occupations again I'm very late but I hope it will still be on time. I hope you like the result!!!! Thanks again for these challenges Tangled Tidbits - *striking details for Clob - how fun! *black background highlights the beautiful tangles From Teddy G (Maryland) ~ My entry for IAST #215. Thanks again for another great challenge. Tangled Tidbits - *Clob filled large Delys with detail lines and aura - just beautiful *checkered, striped. sparkled, triangular Clob From Ilse Lukken ( The Netherlands) and here on her blog ~ I hope I'm just in time to enter my tile, the last weeks have been pretty busy to me... I'm happy when I find some time to tangle :-) Tangled Tidbits - *elegant curves and curls *dark centers of Delys play well with the lighter Clob and white space From Ute Andresen (Germany) ~ here I’m sending you the tile for It’s a String Thing # 215. I like this twisted string and the patterns too. Especially Delys. I think I will go on tangling with it. Thank you for your inspiration. Tangled Tidbits - *lighter line of Delys in the foreground - notice how aura and shading push the others to the background *lovely layers of Clob From Juul (France) ~ Chère Adèle Here is my tile for this week. Tangled Tidbits - *aura along with light and dark sections create beautiful variations of Delys *Clob lines create sense of movement as they swirl From Mariam G (Port Hueneme, California) ~ Attached is my tile for IAST215. I totally spaced out last week - did my tile, but forgot to send it in. I enjoyed seeing how everyone else interpreted the challenge, none the less. Wonderful work by all. We are praying for our neighbors in Northern California - family and friends in the area are all safe at this time. Tangled Tidbits - *shading and sparkle make Delys shine *narrow, detailed, wonderful Clob From Sra (India) ~ Here's my tile for this week's challenge. Have a great week ahead! Cheers Tangled Tidbits - *lines in each Clob section are independent of the next - lovely variation *Delys border From Priscilla DeConti, CZT (New York) ~ I am glad for your challenges they really stretch me!! Thanks Here is my offer for this week. Be Blessed! Tangled Tidbits - *Clob lines travel over and under *fanciful Delys From Anita A Westin (Dalarna, Sweden) and here on her blog ~ Thank´s Adele for this challenge. The patterns suggested were new to me but I loved them at first sight! So here is my entry on a black ATC! Tangled Tidbits - *Clob filled Delys *highlights and lovely aura From Susie (St. Louis, Missouri) ~ Tangled Tidbits - *Clob and Delys blend with shared detail lines *Tipple accents From Pat Kennedy (Washington State) ~ I was happy that I was able to take part in this challenge - it was an enjoyable one! Tangled Tidbits - *dainty Delys with light touches of aura and dots *soft shading and highlights From Laurel Davis, CZT (New York) ~ I loved everything about this challenge! Thanks, Adele. Tangled Tidbits - *pretty flowering Delys *colorful tangles glow on the black tile From Sue Agnew (Tucson, Arizona) ~ Here's my tile for challenge #215. While I was playing with Clob I started being reminded of this artist, Sol LeWitt. One of his "things" was wall drawings, which he didn't execute but his part of the art was writing instructions, and then the drawings were executed by various people on various museum and gallery walls. A couple of my friends participated in creating one at the art museum at the University of Arizona several years ago. For the one they did, the instruction was something like "draw a skyline across the wall, and then trace directly under it" using several prescribed colors in a particular order. He used the mountains where he lived, so they used the skyline of the local Catalina Mountains. They found, as I recall you mentioning in a "Tangling Tips" about I believe Nipa, that as you go the line tends to flatten out. So, I did a monotangle with Clob, and turned the string upside down because I wanted to work top to bottom like they did. I tried to throw in some Sparkle but I found it difficult to predict where the "high points" were going to be. It was fun! Thank you for doing this every week! Tangled Tidbits - Yes, it was in my Tips for Tangling Nipa that I mentioned how lines tend to flatten out. I will reference your note in tomorrow's challenge. Thank you, Sue! *deep curves yield great depth *individually tangled string sections and varied width of line space From Karen Herstowski (Atlanta, Georgia) ~ This was a wonderful challenge. I was doing my layout for the final interpretation of # 215, when I walked away for a few minutes to refresh. Upon returning - BAM! - there it was! An owl, down in the bottom right - staring back at me. Taking some artistic license to embellish him using the Delys tangle premise, I made him (or her) a central focal character of this piece, peeking out of a tree hollow. Funny what happens when you walk away for a while. You see all kinds of things that you never saw while you were focusing on the matter at hand! Thank you Adele, Jem, and Jenna for a great combination! Kind of spooky, just in time for Halloween. Tangled Tidbits - *a peeping owl - a fabulous find - love those sparkling eyes1 *deep black sections compliment the tangles From Aileen (Singapore) and here on her blog ~ Thanks for another great challenge! Am rediscovering striping at the moment! Do link my blog pls! Rainbows and raindrops in sunny Singapore Tangled Tidbits - *long, sparkled lines *flowing white curls From Sharon Fite (California) ~ Here's my contribution for this week. In addition to Clob and Delys, I've added a Cadent variation. Working on a gray-tone tile inspired me to use a little red and white inks to jazz it up a bit. Tangled Tidbits - *pretty combination of tangles *light stripes and solid, sparkled perfs - lovely compliments From Kelly Brantley (Kansas) ~ This week's string made me feel happy and gave me the opportunity to use some of my favorite tangles. I wasn't familiar with either Clob or Delys, and mine don't look so nice as their creators'. I found it difficult to keep the parallel lines of Clob curved enough and the same distance apart. I wanted to use Clob in the same place Jem did, so I did a second tangle. I liked how Delys turned out in my first tangle, but decided not to use it in the second one. I was hoping that by putting something dark and small on both sides of the string 'column', it would make it stand out and look more 3 dimensional, which I think worked better with #2. I also added a little color which is very rare for me. Hope you like them! Tangled Tidbits - *creative combination of tangles - shading does bring the string section forward *Clob covered string lines From Sue Leslie (New Mexico) ~ Happy Saturday and happy October... Tangled Tidbits - *Delys tipped lines *lovely layers of Clob From Talia Maynard (London, United Kingdom) ~ I enjoyed this one especially Clob. That's a really fun one to draw. I think I went a little crazy with the shapes and have lost the string, but I had fun doing it! Tangled Tidbits - *stark light and dark Delys with dainty dots *Clob lines flow in opposite directions from one section to the next From Marla Mendenhall (California) ~ I have so often used the concept of Clob in my tiles, it's nice to have a name to apply to the design. Have to try the side-by-side rows sometime; that looks very cool. And Delys is lovely; look forward to playing with variations in the future. Right now I'm up to my eyelashes in mini white pumpkins to tangle for family and friends; these patterns will be fun to add to my list. REALLY need to work harder at getting the waxy film off first though ... Tangled Tidbits - *striking three dimensional look to Clob - shading, overlapping, curling around - YUM! *lines swirl around and behind - amazing. *fabulous Delys center flower From Felicity Strohfeldt (South Africa) ~ Back at last and so late as usual. Hope you are all well. Have had a bit of a hectic few weeks of heritage festival and crises, but I’m so happy to be back. Haven’t been completely out of the loop. Took part in Joey van Oordt’s 9 weeks’ challenge. Anyway, here’s my Tile 215 and I will attempt to catch up on those I missed as a do not like gaps in my album. Enjoyed the string and Clob by Jem Miller and Delys by Jenns Black. Tangled Tidbits - *delightfully detailed Delys variations - aura, sparkle, stripes, perfs, weighted lines... *fine lined Clob and all against a deep background From Henrike Bratz, CZT (Germany) ~ just a quick mail as I’m late again. I grabbed a zendala tile this time – one you gave me!!!! with a water mark on it. I hope you like it. Tangled Tidbits - It's beautiful! *Clob clusters branch out and morph into Dalys *sparkled stripes, aura, and wonderful shading And now... the tiles for honors this week... ...must absolutely go to the creators of the tangles we used this week: Jem Miller (Ragged Ray) and Jenna Black. From Ragged Ray (United Kingdom) ~ How thrilling to see my tangle included as part of your challenge for this week – thank you so much for choosing it, I can't wait to see what others do with it. And what a wonderful string too, inspired by the one you saw on my blog, which in turn was inspired by the wonderful rope strings that Margaret Bremner uses. Sometimes I like Clob to be the star of the show, but this week perhaps Best Supporting Actor – following the lines of the string whilst also breaking away, allowing little openings to appear, perfect for fragments of Delys. And across the middle a wide band of Delys – such a versatile tangle – I chose to sharpen the spirals and round and darken and fill. Tangled Tidbits - *Clob sprays outward from points along the string *delicate lines, shadow shading, sparkle, weighted lines, and perfs - all for the love of Delys :) *deep shading and touches of darker lines balance the white space beautifully And Jenna Black (North Carolina) ~ Once again, you lured me in from my other projects by using one of my tangle patterns. LOL. I've been really obsessed with color lately, but for this time I went back to black and white on a gray tile. Lots of fun! Thanks. Tangled Tidbits - We are thrilled to have you back and with your delightful Delys. *smooth and squiggly rows of Clob *sparkle and stripes *three variations of Delys Congratulations, Jem and Jenna! Special thanks to you both for your wonderful tangles: Clob and Delys. Many thanks to everyone for sending in your inspiring work. Check back Tuesday afternoon for "It's a String Thing" #216!
Two tiles with focus on my Amphora: Dewd on rope string. Renaissance tile: For IAST 247: Featherfall and Opus: My Caracole on background: Just relax: SpundalaZ: Renaissance
Hi everyone! I’m back today with more Zentangle. I hope you enjoy! I have been watching people making beautiful watercolor backgrounds and then tangling them, so I decided to try tangling a Distress Ink background. I used DI and blenders for the base of the background. I then used some Distress Stain with the paintbrush to flick spots onto the background. Then I misted with water and dried thoroughly. The tile on the left is an Artist Tile and the one on the right is one I made using Neenah 110 lb card stock. I prefer the card stock because the colors moved on it better and it was tougher. You can see the one on the left tore. This is the flat line art before coloring and shading. Size: 3.5 x 3.5”; Zentangle Patterns: Printemps, Onamato, Flee, Beadlines, Striping This is the final product. I used a black Micron pen to draw the tangles, Prismacolor colored pencils and graphite pencils for shading and creating shadows, and a white gel pen for highlights. This process was a lot of fun! I hope you will give it a try too! Thank you so much for stopping by! Please take a second to let me you were here! Enjoy creating! Ellen
This week's IAST was a nod to this year's Father's Day (June 17th here in the United States). Our string was based after a loopy capital letter 'D' and the first letters of the tangles we used (Dex, A-dalfa, and D'rua) spelled DAD. Let's take a look ~ This is my tile - I am a fan of Dex but find it much more fluent to tangle when I start with a grid. My finished tile was a gift for my dad, presented on one of my frames. From Nor'dzin (Wales, United Kingdom) ~ I lost my dad when I was 23 and still feel that gap in my life 40 years later. I hope you and your zentangle community enjoy Father’s Day. Thank you for another lovely challenge. From Lori Byerly (Washington State) and here on her site ~ Thanks so much for all your hard work in creating challenges and for honoring dads everywhere. This is my first Father's Day without my Dad. It's rather sweet for me to be able to create a piece of art in honor of him. He was a great dad and the memories I have of him make me smile. From Sally Whiteman (New Zealand) ~ I really enjoyed these tangles. This is a great way to learn. Thanks for all the time you must put into this. From Ria Matheussen, CZT (Belgium) ~ Thank you for a wonderful fluent string in which the tangles looks very nice. I enjoyed this challenge very much! Warm regards from Belgium From Shirley Wohlsen (Queensland, Australia) ~ Australia celebrates Father’s Day in September, but I’m more than pleased to participate in the Celebrations of Father’s Day in your Country, Happy Father’s Day! to all the Dad’s. From Lily (Hungary) ~ ...here is my tile for your weekly challenge. From Baafke (The Netherlands) ~ Today I had planned to send the first tile I made. My fingers were itching to make one more, but no this is and will remain my entry for this time From Lisette (Switzerland) ~ My entry for the new challenge. A’Dalfa is one of my favourits, the other patterns were new to me. I like the two flowers which are formed with the A-Dalfa-petals. Thank you one more for the challenge, the patterns, the string and everything! A big hug From VenaC (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) ~ I didn't use the random little black square step-outs in Maria's example for Dex. I instead drew lines to make squares. Then I messed up a bit by using a ruler across the corners only to find that i had put it across the wrong corners so some of the boxes were not right. So white jelly roll to the rescue. Then I made X's in each square and then drew the little black square where the X crossed. Not perfect, but OK. When I looked at the nearly completed piece it reminded me of a basket of flowers. So I then shaded the "handle" like the zenbuttons we did a couple of weeks ago. I think dad's also like flowers. So, happy Dad's day to all Dads. From Jutta Gladnigg, CZT (NRW, Germany) ~ I have recently been watching ‘Blue Planet II’, a 2017 British nature documentary series on marine life produced by the BBC Natural History Unit, following the series ‘The Blue Planet’ of 2001. I was mostly fascinated by the second episode ‘The Deep’ (Sea)... what a miraculous world! So your D-string inspired me to dive deep... From Margarete Gilge (Germany) and here on her blog ~ thank you very much for the interesting combination of string and patterns in your last challenge in honor of Father's Day. In Germany this day is in the month of May. If my dad were still alive, he would be happy about my lot of tangles I have drawn in recent years. He liked drawing graphically himself. He had many honorary posts and has designed some logos for good purpose. Often, he integrated patterns that reminded of today's tangle patterns. If my father were still alive, he would surely be an enthusiastic tangle-fan. This time again I draw two versions for your challenge. The second one you can find on my blog under the link. Best wishes from Germany From Hilary (Chicago) ~ You found a great way to honor the dads that are celebrating this Sunday. I chose to do this in shades of brown which I thought might fit a masculine theme. I hope you have a nice Fathers Day with your dad and husband! From Lin H, CZT (Florida) ~ Happy Fathers Day to all those dads out there! Thanks for your challenge, Adele. From Susie (St. Louis, Missouri) ~ From Lynn G (Florida) ~ Thank you for another interesting challenge. Dex is one of my favorites. From Laurel Davis, CZT (New York) ~ Always nice to revisit some favorites! From Marjan Heemskerk (The Netherlands) ~ Finally found the time to pick up Zentangle again. I love D'rua, couldn't stop tangling it. From Trudi (Woodview, Ontario, Canada) ~ Last week I got so into Helen Williams string I never took any pictures I just kept doing them, lots of fun. My father has been gone many years now but he built the cottage I now call Home and I think he would be very proud of what we have done with it so he was on my mind all week. Hope all the dad's had a great day. From Anita A Westin (Dalarna, Sweden) and here on her blog ~ Thank´s for this nice string-challenge! Two of my favourite pattern, A´Dalfa and Dex! And to me a new pattern, D´Rua which I liked a lot to try! In my blog I write a Little more about this adventure. From Susan (United Kingdom) ~ Three tangles that I haven’t seen before. Thank you for the challenge. From Karen Herstowski (Atlanta, Georgia) ~ This is a wonderful tribute to Dad’s on their special commemoration day. I included a couple of balloons in the scape for the celebration. This is the first time I have worked with D’rua. Very nice tangle! Has so many options for fitting into any space. A-dalpha and Dex are familiar and wonderful tangles Thanks to all! From Cat Trask (Oregon) ~ There is a part of me is embarrassed to send this. I’m not happy with the results because I rushed to get it send. However, it’s been so very long since I submitted, and I’m trying to get back on track, so here goes!!! I’ll have to get started earlier in the week so I can get better tiles done to send. Thanks for always doing this for us, Adele. Even when I don’t submit, I enjoy looking at everyone’s tiles! Such talent!!! From Kate (United Kingdom) ~ Thank you Adele, after a few false starts I very much enjoyed this week's challenge! From Sharon Fite (California) ~ Not much time this week for tangling, so I hit the challenge cold. That is, no practicing tangles, no working things out in a sketch book, no draft tiles. Just four dots and away we go! Worked out pretty well. Three different green pens plus green colored pencils, because green was Dad's favorite color! Happy Father's Day to all! From Cyndee Pelley (Oklahoma) and here on her blog ~ Another great challenge this week! I learned and practiced 2 new to me tangles, Dex and A-dalpha. Drua was an old friend! How interesting it will be to see everyone's tiles! Here's mine! A very warm welcome to Stephanie Christenson (Lexington, Missouri) ~ This is my first submission and I hope I am not too late to participate this week. I am from Lexington, MO, which is about 50 miles northeast of Kansas City, MO. Thank you for offering IAST. I look forward to it every week. I enjoyed these tangles. D'rua was new to me and it was fun to try it out. Welcome to our IAST community and to our Tangled Map, Stephanie! From Isle Lukken (The Netherlands) and here on her blog ~ I don’t think you’ll still recognize your curvy capital D string ;-) From Lovelygiraffe (Japan) and on Intagram ~ Here is my tile for your weekly challenge. From Felicity Strohfeldt (Valddrif, South Africa) ~ ...Happiest news! We are finally having good rains on the West Coast and in the Westerncape. Halleluja! Stormy weather last week, rained from Thursday. None so far today but it’s evening now and the weather is threatening to give us a stormy night. Wonderful to see the waterfalls and rivers flowing at last. Dams benefiting, but will take some time before they are at full capacity. Water restrictions remain a daily occurrence. Thanks to you for the Father’s Day Challenge. The pattern D’rua by Mei hua Teng worked brilliantly as ribbons, outlining the D String. In the middle of the tile it might suggest strong comforting fatherly hugs. Was interesting to give them dimension by shading and using variations of pattern. A-alfa by Bunny Wright was a puzzle until I decided to use it in the spaces of the D. In the end it was a satisfying pattern. Dex by Maria and Rick – I decided that it could easily overwhelm the my work, so I went back to the trusty pencil, opting for a softer background. All- in- all a satisfying experience. Happy week to you and all the other participants. Bring on the rain! Oh, Felicity, that is wonderful news and so many prayers answered. From Donna Matoi (Long Beach, California) ~ I have been out of the Zentangle world due to some medical issues, but, I'm slowly getting back into the swing of things. But, I have been admiring as always, everyone's beautiful tiles, even though, I haven't been able to participate. So, thinking of my sweet dad, who I lost 23 years ago, I had to jump in and try out all these new tangles to me. I really enjoyed the process, even though, my tile went in a total different direction! Thank you for your wonderful weekly challenges! Hope you and your family have a great weekend and Father's Day! From Shelly St. John (Redwood City, California) ~ I enjoyed learning new tangles again this week plus using one of my favorites, Dex. Special thanks to the creators of the tangles we used this week along with my string ~ D’rua by CZT Mei Hua Teng’s A-dalfa by CZT Bunny Wright. Dex by Maria Thomas and Rick Roberts Many blessings to dads around the world and for those who live on in our hearts and memories. Thank you to all of the fabulous tanglers who participated this week and for your gracious notes. I treasure them - and you! Tangled Tidbits will return next week. Check back Tuesday afternoon for "It's a String Thing" #248!

The last one of Sandy Bartholomew's giveaway challenges is to use the tangle Gewgle. Not naturally my go-to tangle, but I gave it a fair try, I think :)
