Japanese interior design embodies simplicity and precision. It is also a stunning design that often adds wooden elements, especially to the house's frames, doors, and walls. It is a perfect design for you who want to get closer to nature.
Ca.1870s-80s. This is one of a set of two similar photos I have posted. This geisha is dressed in much darker garb than the other girl, and would probably get hit by a car -- er...I mean 'rickshaw -- while trying to cross the street on a dark night. If Saudi Arabia ever stops blocking flickr.com from their internet portals, this will probably be the only photograph of a Japanese Geisha fully approved by their Ministry of Morals, as well as by their "Fashion Police" (who usually spend their time harrassing women in the Shopping Malls of Riyad) For the other related pic see: www.flickr.com/photos/24443965@N08/2334556354/

Engawa is the Japanese word for veranda. The ground on the west end of the shop drops off sharply down into a valley... it is a grand view. We are going to build a covered deck, an engawa, overlooking the valley. The deck is 28' by 8', the roof overhangs the deck by 2'. Access to the deck is by a pair of doors in the shop - eventually there will be a second entrance to the deck on the exterior. There is a lower deck, as you can see in the sketch at the right that will be for storage of lumber. We enjoyed the engawa along the garage in Fargo and are looking forward to this new addition. New post: 2 April 2012 We got the lumber for the lower part of the engawa on the 13th of March. We started construction the same day, setting posts in footings poured last November. Carol attached the joist hangers and I cut the joists, the teamwork moved the project along smoothly and by the end of the week we had the structure set in place. Before the deck boards were screwed to the structure we set some furniture out there and enjoyed the afternoon. Now with the deck boards fastened in place we enjoy the deck every day. I had my first beer out there and spilled my first beer out there so the deck has been properly christened. We received the lumber for the roof structure on the 26th of March, but the delivery was short one of the main beams so we can't start construction until we get that beam, expected to be delivered on the 6th of April.
100% Cotton. 1 Fat Quarter. Each piece is approximately 18 inches L x 21 inches W. Select fabric by number. Using traditional indigo and cream, these two-color prints are bold and dramatic with a thick, soft touch and simple rustic feel. These printed designs are reminiscent of traditional Japanese indigo and widely popular with artisans of yesteryear. Indigo fabrics are making a big impact in the sewing world right now, and it’s easy to see why. Imported from Japan.

13.4 x 35.4 inches 100% Cotton Made in Japan “Tenugui” is a type of traditional Japanese towel that can be used as a tapestry, and can be used for anything a towel could be used for – as a washcloth, dishcloth, but often as a headband, souvenir, decoration, or for wrapping items such as bottles. The feature is being dyed up from cloth of white cotton. Enjoy the beauty of Japanese traditional Nassen Tenugui. Please note that Tenugui has unfinished edges top and bottom. HAMAMONYO's Nassen is 'Yokohama's traditional Nassen dyeing' process. High-quality Nassen techniques have been cultivated over years of silk scarf dyeing that uses dozens of colors and dozens of dyes. HAMAMONYO's textiles are created for a design using Nassen print blocks and dyes on original cotton cloth. Several more processes are needed to express delicate patterns, color distinction, and unique tint. By patiently applying these processes, the textile hardly fades and can be well used. The exclusively produced cloth is bleached according to Japanese methods, resulting in the best texture that comes from the natural fibers. Although it is difficult to dye cloth bleached according to Japanese methods without the skill of an experienced veteran, such obsession creates the unique texture of HAMAMONYO textiles.
