I made this quilt, I don't know if you'll like it, but I did the best I could with a lot of love and without anyone's help. I hope you like it. inspiration:
I'm a day late, but still wanted to share. I needed to clear out some scraps and decided I wasn't sick of rainbows yet, and made this rainbow quilt. I always think it will make a bigger dent in my scraps than it does, I'm still almost overflowing. I try to keep my scraps from getting too out of hand, so I have a method that seems to work for me. Scraps first go to a drawer in my sewing table. The scraps in this drawer get used a lot, it's kind of my go to bin for fabric. Once that drawer is full, I start sorting by color. I have a shoe size bin for each color (2 bins are missing from this photo). This is my limit--if the bin won't close I just have to start a scrap quilt. Currently my blue and pink scraps are really, really full. I've got to figure out a blue and pink scrap quilt I guess. anybody have any great tips for managing scraps??
Buongiorno! ^__^

A friend came over this week to sew and this is what I worked on. This quilt was inspired by a Schnibbles quilt. I used my own dimensions. The four patch units I had pieced in January at a retreat I went to. After the retreat I set it aside until last week when I added the setting side and corner triangles to the 4 patch. I also came across all these coin strips already pieced in my UFO closet-whoo hooo I had enough all ready for this quilt!!!!!! So I was able to finish the piecing of this flimsy when my friend came to sew. It measures approx 47 x 64 I think. I already folded it all up and put into the to be quilting closet :-) So everything is scraps leftover from sashings, borders, blocks from other projects, except for the tea dyed muslin setting triangles, gee it feels so good to make something out of almost nothing!! The 4 patches are 2.5" cut sqs. And the coins are random width strips there were cut at 6" or so (I didn't really measure them perfectly), sewn together into long strips then cut with my 5" wide ruler. Linking with Oh Scrap today. Go on over and check some other scrappy projects out and get inspired to use yours! Today I am sharing how to use up Paper Scraps. It's a big problem for us crafters...we end up with a pile of scraps and we are never sure whether we should throw them out, save them or donate them to a school or kindy. Today I have a Scrapbook Layout you can re-create and while you are creating you can be using up a big chunk of your scrap pile! For the month of December I was Guest Designer over at Uniquely Creative. Uniquely Creative creates Kits using papers and an assortment of other delicious crafty goodies. Inside the Kits
Happy Thanksgiving!! I'm so thankful for so many things that I wanted to do a Gratitude album. And this idea came from the Attitude of Gratitude which was started by Tessa Buys. The Sweet Peach Juicy kit was perfect for this. So I had a "free" day this week and work all day on it. Yes, you read right I completed this entire album in one day!! Here is the cover and it reads "Love the Life you have been Given" Here are the first 2 pages: This is my hubby and kids! I'm so grateful for both and don't know what I would do with out them! Here is a close up and it reads "I'll always choose you" Here is the next pages and it is the about the gratefulness for my faith in God and for my children's trust in me. This is a story about Hannah looking a me one day and how much it meant to me. These pages are about my parents and my little love for my chai tea. This is a close up of what I wrote about my parents. I love the cards that were included in the kit. These 2 pages are about some things I'm thankful for like our health, memories, today, and laughter. And the other on is about how I'm grateful for Scrapbooking! Gotta include that ;) Here is a close up: And these 2 pages are about my friends and being a stay at home mom! I'm really graetful for both of these. I love those transparentcies that are in the kit! Here is a close up of the tag I that is in the envelope. Here is a close up the tag I made that is in the envelope. These 2 pages are about our home and how grateful I am we have one that is ours. And the next page is about how thankful I'm for our doctors. Close up of tag: Close up of the writing and that picture is of Hannah when we took her to a specialist. And the last 2 pages are of our family time we spend together! Love these times and they mean so much!! Thank you for stopping by and have a great Thanksgiving!!
If you are one of the three who have been following along with the Cascadia mystery , here it is! Mine isn't all quilted but I did the binding prior to bringing it to Guatemala with me. Here is the inspiration quilt. Isn't it adorable? I saw it on ebay and thought it would be a fun one to reproduce. If you haven't already, trim the sides of your rows, leaving 1/4" seam allowance. (don't burn it like I did!) It doesn't really matter how wide it is, but mine finishes at 4 1/2". Your two rows may not finish exactly the same- that's okay! One of my rows was a perfect fit but the one in the photo was not. I think it is because I sewed my edge triangles on wrong. No problem, I added a little strip to both ends. and sewed my rows together as shown in the top photo. Here is one end with the addition of a muslin strip to make my row long enough. I really don't think you would have noticed had I not told you. I hope you love your little quilt as much as I love mine. I think it is so charming! You can see in the 2 photos above I'm stitching straight down the rows that are set on the diagonal and plan on quilting on the diagonal on the straight rows. I will do a linky party at a later date, since the holidays are here!
I always love challenges because they give me a starting point, and I was in a rush to create a page for this little sweetie who we'll be seeing this weekend, so I played in a Paper Issues Scraplift Sunday challenge and CSI's Cold Case File No. 271. My first starting point was to scraplift Jen's awesome layout: And my second starting point was our Cold Case File at CSI, which is a new challenge to use older stash. Here are the Case File and clues (my layout doesn't resemble the Case File at all, but I made up the clues from the Case File, and used a couple of them for my page). I decided I should use a paper pad because I'd be cutting those circles. So my second starting point was to go to my paper and find the 10th paper pad. The tenth paper pad didn't really match the colors in the photo, so I counted ten again and found Dear Lizzy's old Neapolitan collection, and the colors were a good match. Here are some details. I just loved the stitched grid on Jen's layout. I originally had just circles, but decided I needed to layer two circles. Inking the edges gave them a little more dimension. In retrospect, I wish I'd lifted them on pop Another Cold Case clue I used was to use rub-ons from an unopnened package, and I actually used rub-ons from three packages. I used to use rub-ons all the time, and I have a gazillion packs, but I never think to use them anymore. I've had these forever and crossed my fingers as I opened the packages that they'd still work, and they did--good old Making Memories and Scenic Route! Gotta love them! I tucked that tag behind the photo because it was in my stash--I had made it for another layout and never used it, and I wanted to use the clue of using fiber--another product I have a ton of that I never seem to use. I remember when fibers became trendy and Farzad and I would drive all over the place in search of them. I have them in every color! It was so fun making this page! I hope you'll stop by Paper Issues to play with the Sunday Scraplift or one of the many other Paper Issues challenges (there's even a Scraplift Sunday challenge to scraplift one of my pages) or CSI to play with one of our three January Case Files. There are lots of prizes to be won from both challenges! While you're over at Paper Issues, check out all the new stuff in the store and use my code, Debbi (no e on the end) for 20% off your entire order!
So, here it is--my plush alphabet magnet tutorial. This is a bit of a quick and dirty project--and I think it lends itself to inexactitude--...
These are my quilty scraps. Also known as - my little bits of happiness:) They are cut from all of my quilty project leftovers. I use them all the time and make lots of fun projects from them. These are the shelves in my studio where I keep my fabric. I keep my fabric in baskets by color. You can see the smaller baskets on top... inside those are my little quilty scraps! When I buy fabric... I usually buy fat quarters and sometimes 1/2 yard cuts. It all goes into the larger baskets when I bring it home from the quilt shop. I buy larger cuts of fabric for sashings, borders, binding and backing as I need them per project. When I am cutting for a project and I happen to have used most of a fat quarter... instead of returning it to it's color basket... I cut it into smaller strips or even just a square or two... if that's all that is left. I do not throw it out unless it's smaller than 1 1/2". No...this is not a garbage can:) It's where I put all of the leftovers that are too small to go back in the large baskets. When it's about halfway full, I go through it, cut up the pieces that I haven't cut into strips and squares yet, and put them all into my scrap baskets according to strip or square size. It's a good system for me that has worked so well throughout my quilting years:) The three sizes that I use the most and keep in these small baskets are 1 1/2" strips and squares... 2 1/2" strips and squares... And 3 1/2" strips and squares. (I also keep 5", 7" and 10" squares in one of the larger baskets on my shelves) These are my go to baskets when I am making any scrappy project. I go to these first so that I don't have to cut one or two little squares out of my larger pieces. I hate that!! Using and buying fabric in this way gives me a great variety in color and prints. And it makes my mom and my grandma's proud! Use it up wear it out make it do or do without...:) I just love having precut squares and strips at my finger tips at any given time... all cut and ready to sew in all of my happy colors. For me... just having a stack of 3 1/2" squares like these means the possibilities are endless! Having them gives me the same feeling that I had as a little girl with a new box of crayons:) So let me tell you about one of the ways that I use my little bits of happiness. I make scrappy blocks of course! Lots of scrappy blocks. I make them into what I like to call "Bonus Quilts" For example... just yesterday I posted a tutorial for my Bitty Scrap Around Block. I cut it out of my 1 1/2" and 2 1/2" scraps. I had several of these blocks made already because I have been using them as my current bonus quilt project. I've blogged several times about how I use starters and stoppers when I sew... click here to see one of those posts if you don't know what I'm talking about! (I'll wait...:) Okay...got it? Now back to the Bitty Scrap Around blocks. As I said... I always have a scrappy starters and stoppers project going and I'm now making several of my Bitty Scrap Around blocks. Above are the pieces that I cut for the blocks from my 2 1/2" basket.... 2 1/2" squares for the centers and 1 1/2" x 2 1/2" strips for the sides. I cut the additional pieces for the blocks from my 1 1/2" basket... 4 1/2" strips and 6 1/2" strips. I don't really count how many pieces that I cut... I just cut up a bunch in the sizes needed for the block. When I'm running low... I simply grab my baskets and quickly cut more to continue with the same blocks. After one particular project is complete... I decide on a new one and start cutting again!!! I keep this vintage muffin tin next to my sewing machine when I am chain piecing so that the pieces are handy to just pick up and use as my current bonus quilt project. You can see that by using starters and stoppers each time I'm sewing... I quickly have a pile of scrappy happy blocks to make into a bonus quilt... a runner... a bag... or even a pillow! When one size of my "little bits of happiness" basket is getting a little full... I plan a project that will use up several of that strip or square size and cut pieces for my next bonus quilt. That's why I chose to make these small blocks and call them "Bitty Scrap Around's"... (they finish at 6") because my 1 1/2" basket was getting pretty full! This is a quilt that I call my "Scrap Around" quilt. It's really big (it's folded for the photo) and our favorite go to quilt for snuggling when watching a movie. I made it several years ago. I used my 5" square scraps... my 2 1/2" and 1 1/2" strips to make it. I love to put a really fun and colorful backing on my scrappy quilts:) Now you can see why I heart my baskets filled with little bits of happiness... and why I save them! I LOVE making something beautiful out of leftovers... AND I LOVE saving time and thread by using starters and stoppers. I hope I've inspired you to do the same! Save your Scraps. The secret to "using" them instead of just "saving" them is to cut them into usable sizes and keep them organized. Once you've done that... you will be surprised at how many scrappy happy projects you can make! Let me know what you think about the latest "from my quilty studio" tutorial. Do you believe in saving scraps? My next tutorial will be all about using my vintage irons! Have a quilty kind of day! xx Lori
How about another useful trick for using up scraps and making them look not so much like scraps after all?! This week, in my ongoing effort to sort out just how much fabric I have sitting around here, I uncovered a couple more packs of these little 2½” square crumbs.First, I dug around some more and sorted out all my leftover striped binding chunks from past quilts. Can you tell, I don’t throw anything away ;) But, it comes in handy at some point!First, I made as many four patches as I could wit

Bizz !!!

sooooo happy to have inherited this enormous hand-stitched quilt! My sister and I used to sleep with this quilt when we spent the night at our grandma's. We used to spend so much time just staring at it and looking at all of the different pieces. It is really an amazing piece to see in-person. This was made by my great-grandma and it is a queen-sized blanket.
