Detroit/Hamtrmack wedding, c.1930s-1940s. Can anyone identify the bride in this photograph? Please add comments and notes. The images in this set were acquired at the Detroit estate sale of a woman who ran a floral shop on Chene Street for many years. The photos may have been connected with her business, and many of them were produced by Hoffman and Smart Set studios. We would like to use these images in the ongoing Chene Street History Project, but need more information first.

Gli abiti da sposa in stile anni '30 erano ispirati, almeno per chi poteva permetterselo, alle star dell'allora nuovissimo Cinema Hollywoodiano. Il tessuto era quasi sempre raso di seta, e il vestito poteva avere delle perline o essere scollato, ma per tutte valeva la regola del bianco, declinato in toni avorio o pastello. Le fotografie della galleria ricordano un'epoca che, per moltissimi, corrisponde a quella dei vestiti delle proprie nonne o bisnonne, nate all'inizio del '900 e, negli anni '30, ormai in età da matrimonio. Nonostante le immagini siano tutte di provenienza anglosassone (Stati Uniti), la moda dell'epoca prevedeva, anche in Italia, vestiti molto più grandi e ingombranti degli attuali, dove gigantesche gonne occupavano buona parte della scena. Durante il party nuziale era inoltre improbabile assistere a balli scatenati da parte della sposa, che difficilmente sarebbe riuscita a muovere qualche passo di danza con gonne di svariati metri di diametro. L'epoca moderna ha infine portato un ridimensionamento, corrispondente anche a un minor impegno economico per il tessuto, dei vestiti da sposa...
