A 1950's Two piece Dress comprising of a Shortie over blouse and Wiggle style skirt, knitted in boucle for a pebbly effect. The original yarn used was Templeton's Mystic Fancy wool. You will need a pair each of No. 11 and 12 needles and a set of 4 DP No. 12 for the blouse and a No. 11 circular needle for the skirt. I can't find any reference to the yarn so would assume 3 or 4 ply, but please check yourself as I can't guarantee that's correct. Always knit a tension square to make sure. Measurements to fit: Bust 32 - 34 - 36 - 38 ins. Hip 34 - 36 - 38 - 40 ins. Length of blouse 19-20.5 ins. depending on size knitted Length of skirt 29 ins. TENSION: 8 sts and 11 rows to 1 ins. The needles are old sizes so I have included a conversion chart for reference to modern sizes. A stunning, classic 1950s set in the most beautiful silk taffeta fabric. And the color! It is so unusual to find these pretty colors anymore and this one is a fantastic iced blue with a silver undertone. The only label that remains is it Harzfeld's label that was a higher end department store. If this was a designer piece I would not be surprised - it is very well made and has those high end kind of details that point towards a well made piece. The dress has a full skirt and it is detailed with bands of tightly ruffled bands that follow the seam of the skirt. This same detailing is used to highlight the bust as well with a simpler bodice built under that ruffle. I love the halter tie neckline that leaves the upper back bare. The jacket is a cropped, curved and molded beauty that just slips on for the perfect finish! Excellent condition Jacket Shoulders: 15" Bust: 19.5? flat across from side seam to side seam Waist: 16? flat across from side seam to side seam Length: 14" Dress Bust: 17? flat across from side seam to side seam, with a good B cup of area in the front Waist: 13.5? flat across from side seam to side seam Hips: open Bodice: 11" from top of the bodice to waist seam Skirt: 27" from waist to hem Both pieces are unlined, with the bodice of the dress backed by the same fabric as the exterior. The dress closes with a side painted metal zipper and the jacket has no closures. It was photoed over a crinoline that is not included. There is a faint mark on th eback of the skirt - please see photo. There is no discoloration to the fabric otherwise - any photos that seem that way are just lighting! A fun and vibrant pair of German sewing pattern catalogs for download from Summer 1956! 36 pages of dreamy dresses, cocktail wear, dapper coats, suits, full-skirted frocks and beachwear.... In "Neue Modelle" the illustrations take centre stage: each page generally showcases two models in colour. "Modenschau" has many models on each page, in a mixture of colour and greyscale. What will you do with your pages? They're great for browsing, fashion research, inspiration, eye candy, scrapbooking... And would look fantastic printed out and framed on your wall! (Just to clarify: these catalogs were aimed at presenting different styles to a dressmaker. They do NOT contain any actual sewing patterns themselves, just beautiful pictures. They are German publications, so text is in German.) What you'll receive: ---------------------------- There are four PDFs in this download: • One PDF of the entire magazine Neue Modelle in good quality for your reading convenience – 23 pages (19 colour pages, 3 pages in black, white and yellow, 1 cover page). • Two PDFs containing the Neue Modelle magazine pages in best quality. (I’ve done this to ensure you can print in absolutely tip-top quality, while keeping each file size manageable.) • One PDF of Modenschau – 11 pages (3 colour, 9 greyscale) Technical specs: ----------------------- All pages are formatted to size A4 (210mm by 297mm) for you to print easily at home. (Just make sure your printer is set to 100% and A4 borderless.) You can also print on US Letter paper (215.9mm by 279.4mm). However, you'll need to trim a little white margin off the sides of your printed pages if you want to display them. ------------- Would you like to receive a 10% discount code for one order, special offers for subscribers only, and be notified when I launch a new item? The Modes Royale tour is winding down. Just two more weeks left to go. Hopefully, you've been able to glean a little inspiration from the photos or copy them and create your own collection. Vintage books like these are getting more and more difficult to find. Today's collection is the Spring/Summer 1953 catalogue. This is one of my favorites. Take special note of the small line drawings next to some of the dresses. You'll see the jackets that went over the dresses. I'm reminded of a scene in the movie "Rear Window." Grace Kelly walks in wearing a lovely suit. She takes off the jacket and takes your breath away. Underneath the classic jacket is a halter that is absolutely spectacular and totally unexpected. I adore the dress on the right above. And I am in love with both of the above dresses. Take note of the collar on the right above. Such a lovely detail. The dress on the right above is one of the dresses I was referring to. Look at the jacket, very tailored and gives no hint of the strapless dress that hides underneath. The dress in the middle above is wonderful. Talk about making a figure look tiny!! I may have to copy the dress on the left above. So pretty. It is basically a strapless dress with that glorious collar that is attached in the front princess line seam. Make it detachable and it would be even better. I hope you've enjoyed this as much as I have! Have a wonderful week. Rhonda

A truly spectacular vintage wedding dress by Sylvia Mansell, dating to the 1940s / 1950s. A superb design - the dress manages to look antique, vintage and contemporary at the same time - sharp mid century modern tailoring meets 1880s bustle dress, the clean sculptural lines and Victorian inspiration reminiscent of the work of Charles James. Four pieces all together - the dress in one piece, bustle petticoat, veil and a copy of the original wedding photograph. The dress is in silk, glossy and smooth, pale gold with a hint of pink. The top part is built over a sturdy under bodice, strapless, boned, with a centre back zip and elastic straps with hooks at the waist and bust. Over this the dress is fitted and streamlined, with a wide round neck, the fabric folded over and weighted on the inside, creating a sleek cowl effect. The dress fastens at the back with multiple small buttons and loops, with the same fastenings at the cuffs of the long fitted sleeves. The sleeves are shaped at the elbow with clean modern darts, with the same at the waist. At the front the bodice extends to form a Victorian style draped apron, full and shaped with pleats at the sides, the inside lined with sheer silk. Underneath the skirt flares to an A line, at the back a large bustle bow and a dramatic long rounded train in two separate parts. Underneath is a silk underskirt, made in a more structured ribbed silk, faced with a structural wool like fabric. With the dress is it's separate bustle petticoat, cotton, with plastic net ruffles at the back, fastening with a hook and zip. Also present is the original veil, plain net attached to a wire headband with comb, and a photocopy of of a photograph the original bride with her groom. The label inside the dress reads ' Sylvia Mansell ' CONDITION Mostly excellent - there are small marks around the hem and bottom of the skirt, only really visible up close, some slight wear to the hem, and two small runs in the silk on the back of the skirt, barely visible. Some more obvious marks on the train lining. The tacking stitches holding the various parts in place are loose in places and need re doing. The petticoat is discoloured, mostly around the waist. The veil is discoloured and creased, with some small holes. The photograph is on a plain sheet of A4 paper, with some wear and part of a foot print. Approx measurements - dress shoulder 13.5 under bodice bust 34 under bodice waist 24 full front length 61. Petticoat waist 24 front length 44 IMPORTANT INFORMATION - The pieces i sell are often over 100 years old and rarely in perfect condition, i make every effort to describe and show any faults, so PLEASE READ THE DESCRIPTION, READ THE CONDITION REPORT, STUDY THE IMAGES AND ASK ANY QUESTIONS before buying.
