This is the second week (Trend Week) of my guest design tenure at Just Us Girls Challenge for the month of July and the trend this week is "Rocker Card". I had to go to Pinterest to find out what a rocker card is, and I chose to challenge myself with a predominantly white Christmas card. I used a plastic template from my drafting days to make the rocker base on the card, since I don't have any circle dies large enough to make a 5-1/2 x 5-1/2 card. I hand-cut it and the smaller circle used for the snow line, which I then die cut with a stitched curved line. I do have large enough circle dies for both the white base and light gray sky. The sentiment was heat-embossed with silver embossing powder before attaching the circle and snow line to the rocker base. The trees are from Sizzix/Tim Holtz #660978, and I layered several of them together, tucking them behind the curved snow line. The final step was to add small silver sequins and make a custom square card with silver lining. Rocker cards are a bit outside of my comfort zone of mostly CAS cards, but I actually enjoyed this one. I'm hoping some of you will be challenged to try your hand at it. I think the ones I saw online that were more juvenile birthday or new baby cards were the most successful - let's see what you come up with! This week i doing a little double duty cardmaking. The Stamp Review Crew is featuring the Ringed with nature stamp set. I decided to use this set to create a card for the Global Design Project CASE challenge. We are casing this fun card from Susan Wong. I love Susan’s style. It’s clean and unique
Oh wow- Here is another Totally Susie card! I just love Fall & I love the way this card turned out! I used the Aspen Tree Dies- pg. 46 in the Holiday Catalog. NOTE: THESE ASPEN TREE DIES are now a Level 2 SALE-a-bration choice that you can get for FREE with a $100 product order. WOW- that is a $36.00 value & an awesome deal! Notice the DSP in the back behind the trees?? It is from the Splendid Day DSP on page 65 in the Holiday Catalog. Yes- I used the back side of one of the foil sheets.(the reverse side of silver foil that is in the top right hand corner shown above) I made this into a fun z fold card. (My favorite fun fold!) And this is what it looks like when standing up. Check out the leaf & words. They are from the 'Soft Seedlings' stamp set on page 53 in the Holiday Catalog. NOTE: There is no dies with this stamp set, so yes I did fussy cut out this leaf using my scissors. HOW DID I DO THE LEAF? I inked the whole leaf into Crushed Curry ink. Then using Sponge Daubers I "LIGHTLY" added a little Pumpkin Pie ink around the leaf image. I then used a Sponge Dauber & added Cajun Craze ink around the edges of the leaf. Be sure you breath onto your stamp so that you moisten the ink. Then stamp the inked leaf onto Very Vanilla card stock. And fussy cut it out with Paper Snips (scissors). Here are the supplies & measurements. stamp set: 'Soft Seedlings' (leaf & words) card stock: Cajun Craze- 5 1/2 x 8 1/2"- score at 2 1/8" & 4 1/4", z fold for card base Very Vanilla- 4 x 5 1/4"- for outside layer of card front Very Vanilla 4 x 5 1/4'- for inside of card Very Vanilla 1 x 3 3/4"- stamp words onto right end Very Vanilla- 2 3/4" strip- stamp leaf onto & fussy cut out Crumb Cake- 3 3/4 x 5"- die cut Aspen Trees out of this designer paper: Splendid Days DSP- 4 7/8 x 3 5/8" layer behind the die cut Aspen Trees inks: Cajun Craze; Pumpkin Pie; Crushed Curry other: Stampin' Cut & Emboss Machine; Aspen Tree Dies; Linen Thread; Sponge Dauber; Elegant Faceted Gems; dimensionals; glue dots I hope you have a TERRIFIC Tuesday! The second card we made in class last week was this one. I love the embossed panel which gives the cardstock a really lovely texture. It is called Wintry Embossing folder and comes in a set of two smaller sized folders. The large flower stamp is stamped in Evening Evergreen ink and layered onto two die cut circles. The die cut piece behind is from the die set. A little sentiment and some gold bling and the card was complete. This past Saturday I finally held my Open House to show off the samples from both the annual catalog and the new holiday catalog. I held two separate events so that I could limit the number of attendees and allow for proper social distancing. It went over great, everyone was glad to be back together crafting and laughing. For the event I designed some simple yet cute cards for the ladies to make. Here is the first one we did… This card features the beautiful new Doves of Hope Bundle from the Handmade for You catalog (what we all remember as the holiday catalog). The card base is Whisper White cardstock 5 ½ x 8 ½” scored at 4 ¼”. I then cut Pacific Point cardstock into a circle that was approximately 3 ½” (I used a retired set, but you can use whatever you have). I used Night of Navy (147110) ink and a Stamping Sponge to distress the edges of the circle and add additional interest and depth. Then I started on my Dove, I cut each of the pieces (each piece of the wing gets cut twice) out of Whisper White cardstock. I glued the two layers of the wings together just in solid area and let them dry. I glued the solid tail piece behind the body of the dove, and I glued the Olive branch, which I cut out using the die set using Old Olive cardstock, to the back of the doves beak. Once each of the pieces was assembled I started to assemble the Dove. The first thing I did was to shape my dove’s wings with my bone folder (if you do this after they are glued together the affect is great. I attached my dove’s back wing behind the body with adhesive. I then added Dimensionals to my second wing and attached it to the front of the dove’s body. To complete my card I stamped my sentiment “Peace Joy Love” from the stamp set in the Dove of Hope bundle directly onto my cardbase using Night of Navy ink. To prepare my Pacific Point circle to receive the dove I wanted to add some stars. I did this by simply dotting the paper with a white jell pen. I attached my circle to my card base and then used both the regular and mini dimensionals to attach my dove to the center of the circle. I hope you enjoy this card. I will list the supplies I used below, and you can find the supplies for this card and many more on my website at: https://www.stampinup.com?demoid=2206796 or by clicking the shopping button at the top of this blog. Unfortunately, with the recent changes to the Stampin’ Up! website we are experiencing problems with direct links to individual products (we hope to have this corrected soon) until we have a fix I am hoping this attached link and the list of products used below will help. I am sorry for the inconvenience and I hope to have the situation remedied soon. Happy Crafting!!!
