Find a reason to feel glad within, and when you have, share that happiness with someone by giving them a reason to smile too. Below are some bible verses about happiness that encourage us to be happy all the time.
When I was around six years old, my mother and church told me that if I really wanted something that I should pray about it and God would provide my needs. The kids in school made fun of me a lot. One time in class, they were all making fun of me so I started praying they would stop. Then they started making fun of me even more because I was praying. That's when I learned that God doesn't always answer your prayers. I still said my prayers every night as a little girl, though. When I got to junior high school and high school I was boy crazy. Always had a crush on somebody. On one of those random crushes, I prayed for a month that he would like me back by the end of the month. I don't know what gave me the audacity to give God a deadline. You can guess how that turned out. No boyfriend. I was disappointed. It kind of turned me off to praying, too. For over a decade! I know it sounds ridiculous but it's true! You would've thought the kids making fun of me would've done it. To be honest, I think this lack of prayer effected me spiritually and I'm realizing this as I'm writing this! I was very spiritual as a teenager but through my twenties I was very far from God. In my late twenties, I started going to church again but I was still a Christian who didn't pray. I spoke to my brother about it. I explained the whole high school crush/praying incident and he said to me, "That's not the way it works! God ain't no genie in a bottle!" At the time, I was reading Mark Batterson's book "The CircleMaker". I told my brother how the book explained that if you pray you get good things and that Mark spoke at my church. He said, "That's not the reason to pray, so you can get things!Prayer is about connecting with God! He hit the nail on the head and that is what was missing in my life. Sure, there's always Matthew 7:7-11"Ask, and it will be given to you, seek and you will find, knock and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be open." However, prayer should be about more than just asking. Prayer should be about gratitude. Being grateful for what you already have. 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 says, "Rejoice always, pray continually, give thanks in all circumstances for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus." God loves you and desires connection with you. He desires a relationship with you. "The Lord is near to all who call upon Him. To all who call upon Him in Truth. He will fulfill the desire of those who fear him; He will also hear their cry and will save them." So, I made a point to pray more and it was such a blessing to talk to God. I cherish my alone time with the Lord. A book that really changed my relationship with prayer is "Fervent: A Woman's Battle Plan for Serious, Specific, and Strategic Prayer" by Priscilla Shirer. In the book, the author talks about her grandmother and how she would prayer journal to remember her prayers and keep track of the prayers that are answered. So, why didn't God answer my prayers. With God, the answers to your prayers are yes, no, and later. With yes, your will may be God's will. With no, what you want may not be what is right for you. And with later, you have trust God's timing. With all of this, you have to remember it is not your will, it is God's will. The best way to keep with a prayer ritual is to do it first thing in the morning. I like prayer journaling. It is a habit I have grown to love. If you haven't prayed in awhile, I suggest you do. I find doing it in your bed as you fall asleep is the best way. Just thank God for all he has given you. And just talk about your cares and worries. It can be brief. It can be long. He is waiting to hear from you.
