Hello everyone! I hope you all have been enjoying the past few days of the newest MFT Stamps release previews! I'm back today to share a new, fun set featuring some really cute snowmen. It's called Frosty Friends and I've used one of the snowmen today to create a fun double-layer shaker card. I have loved making these double-layered shaker cards lately, and if you missed the one that I made the other day, I referred to an informative video done on this process by Jennifer McGuire that you can check out HERE. Her video is on creating shaker ornaments but the process for applying it to your cards is the same. I just love the scenic-dimension that it creates. To start, I first stamped my images with Copic friendly Black Ink onto a sheet of Neenah Classic Crest Solar White 110 lb Card Stock. I then colored them with Copic Sketch Markers and cut them out with their coordinating dies. I also added a little Santa hat from the BB Beast Friends Set. Copic Colors Used Whites: 0, C00, C0, C1, C2, C4 Greens: YG01, YG07, YG17, G28 Reds: R14, R27, R46, R59 For the background of my card, I blended some blue Distress Inks (Tumbled Glass and Salty Ocean) and then heat embossed the tress (from the new Stacey Yacula Warm and Feathered Hugs Stamp Set) with Fine Detail White Embossing Powder once the distressed background was dry. I then splattered this panel with some white paint for a snowy-effect. I added some snow drifts using the Snow Drift Die-namics and created a double-layer shaker card border by diecutting the largest Stitched Rectangle Frame Die-namics about 11 times. I glued 5 of these pieces together for two separate stacks and added my clear acetate between each layer. I used the final frame for the outside frame of my card. For my sentiment, I used some Heat Resistant Acetate and heat embossed my sentiment with Black Embossing Powder. Lastly, I used my favorite candy cane striped patterned paper from the Candy Land Patterned Paper Pack to frame my card. There are only three more days until the new release becomes available! Hi everyone! Happy Wednesday! It’s time for a new MFT Sketch Challenge, and this week we are up to WSC417! I really had a lot of fun with this sketch! I began by cutting a panel of Smooth White Card Stock using the Gift Box Cover Up Die-namics. I then cut another panel of Smooth White Card Stock and inked it using Stormy Sky and Chipped Sapphire Distress Oxide Inks. I spritzed the panel with water, and then with watered down white acrylic paint, and once dry, I popped up the die-cut panel on top using foam tape. The snowman, and all of his presents, were cut from No-Line Coloring Card Stock using the Frosty Friends Die-namics, and I stamped them with Extreme Black Hybrid Ink using Frosty Friends. I colored them with Copic Markers and then popped them up using foam tape. The sentiment panel was cut from Ripe Raspberry Prestige Card Stock using the Essential Fishtail Sentiment Strips Die-namics, and I stamped “Happy Brrrthday” from Frosty Friends, using Versamark and then heat embossed it with white embossing powder. Check out this week’s sketch! Thanks SO much for stopping by! Please head over to the MFT Challenge Blog to check out what the rest of the team has created, and to play along!
I have a fun snowmen card to share with you today. I had planned on giving you some tips about masking in this post, but my card making took a bit of a turn with this one. A fairly simple masking project turned into a card salvaging project. LOL I started out by stamping my two snowmen on my card stock and then on Post-It tape. I like to use Post-It tape for masking because it sticks so well. I cut out the snowmen and carefully placed them on the card stock over top of the images. You want to be as exact as possible doing this so there are no white spaces left when you pull up the mask. At this point, things are still going well! I sponged on Spun Sugar, Worn Lipstick, and Picked Raspberry Oxide ink. The Oxide Inks blend so effortlessly, I LOVE them! I then added some snow with the Snowfall Stencil and Sweet Tooth Pigment Ink. I peeled off the mask and filled in any little white spots that were left on the sides of the images with a paintbrush and Oxide Ink. The Oxide ink is so wet it works wonderfully for this trick. This is where disaster struck. LOL I grabbed a couple of Copics and started to colour the lights. I hadn't paid attention to the card stock I started with, needless to say, the card stock was not Copic friendly! My red ink started to bleed almost immediately. I tried in vain to clean it up with Blender Solution, but there was nothing I could do. I really liked how the background had turned out and I didn't want to start over again, so I stamped the snowmen on X-press It card stock, coloured them with Copics and then fussy cut them out. If you should find yourself in a similar situation and you need to fussy cut your image, I recommend taking a non-Copic black marker or pencil and running it along the edges of your image. That will hide any white card stock that may be showing. Once I had the snowmen coloured and safely adhered to the card stock, I added a little bit of shimmer to the left side of their bodies. That little bit of sparkle will catch your eye, but it is not too overwhelming. Thank you so much for joining me again today. I hope you learned a tip or two. There is something about a frosty morning that I love. It's the way everything is covered in ice, and all the evergreen trees are white. One of my most favorite covers is for a book that is part of a ‘duology' – Winter Cowboy. Summer Drifter will be with you in the Summer, but for …
