Summertime is the time to sleep, read, and catch up on things. Here are five things that I have done this last week.
Aloha friends! Summer is flying by for me. I cannot believe it is already July!! I had a list a mile long of things I needed to do and I have barely made a dent. However, I have been enjoying myself a great deal, swimming, working out, catching up with friends and binge watching lots of Netflix!! One thing that I can cross off my list is finishing up my Grammar Centers for the Reading Wonders series. Actually all of my Wonders products are complete now!!! Each of these units covers the grammar skills that are covered in the Wonders units. They are great for Daily 5 word work rotations or small group activities. Each unit comes with activities that cover a skill and a practice sheet for reinforcement. Much more engaging than a workbook! Each also has a color and black and white version to make printing easier and more affordable. I also have Morning Work for each unit. These include practice for grammar, spelling and vocabulary for each unit. The skills begin simple and spiral through the year. My kids did so well with this format this year! Finally, I have Spelling Lists for each of the units that include printable lists for On-Level, Above Level and Approaching, vocabulary words and definitions, high-frequency words and sentences for spelling dictation. Spelling Unit 1 is free in my TpT shop to give you an idea of what's included in the other packs. It does not include everything that I added to the other units. I guess I should add that to my list ;) Hope your summer is progressing well and that these resources will come in handy down the line.
You can give students a soft start to the school day, as well as incorporate essential practice with these strategies.

In my last post, I started talking about Morning Work Activities that don't involve worksheets! Check out some other ideas!
I've created morning work for my first grade classroom and I must say I LOVE it. I like the students to have something waiting for them on their desks when they walk in, so that I can finish all my morning business (take attendance, lunch count, help with backpacks, talk with a parents, tell my parent helpers what they need to do). I would search each morning and would think "What should I have them practice today? Did I do this worksheet yet?" Now I have my morning work organized...It works on BOTH language arts and math. Skills build on one another. It took a few hundred hours (that's embarrassing to admit, but true), but now I have something completely productive for my students to do and I am confident they are receiving great reinforcement. Below I have some highlights of the first bundle, Weeks 1 - 12. You can also download a couple sample pages to try and see how it works for you. They are samples from weeks 1 and 20, so I'm not sure if that fits the skills you are working on, but you can get an idea of what's included. See the first twelve weeks in my store. This is the first week of the first grade morning work. Click the link below. Grab this first grade freebie. Grab this second grade freebie.

*A DIGITAL OPTION HAS BEEN INCLUDED FOR GOOGLE SLIDES AND FORMS/GOOGLE CLASSROOM* Be sure to re-download! There are directions and links inside the pdf. About this Resource This resource is a unique way to get your students warmed up in the morning with a Math focus. The math is aligned to 2nd grade Common Core Standards and meant to be a review. If you teach 3rd grade, this might also work for you depending on your students’ needs. (We do have a 3rd grade version! Check the custom categories to the left of my store!)This set contains 5 weeks of groundhogs, hearts, cupids and other February –themed morning work. The morning work is focused on Math with a sprinkle of Science, a pinch of grammar, and a dash of Daily/Weekly Updates to keep your students engaged continuously reviewing math skills The morning work is focused on Math with a sprinkle of Science, a pinch of grammar, and a dash of Daily/Weekly Updates to keep your students engaged continuously reviewing math skills. Additionally, the daily and weekly updates open doors for conversations to help you and your students get to know one another. You can check out the 3rd grade set to get a feel for the upcoming months. Each week follows the same routine. The focus for each day was created based on fundamental needs we noticed in our classrooms of 3rd and 4th Graders: Place Value, Number Sense, and Fractions. While these are not the only areas addressed, they are the main focus. This has worked so well in our 3rd and 4th grade classrooms that we have branched out into other grade levels. Each week follows the same routine and structure.*Mathematician Monday - Problems are centered around 1st grade math review and problems leading up to the understanding of more complex problems, especially Multiplication & Division. In the 3rd-5th Grade morning work, it is called Multiplication Monday. *Base Ten Tuesday - All about the Base of our Number System. These problems are centered around our number system and place value. *Wordless Wednesday - No Word Problems! Students have 3 problems without words. *Throwback Thursday - Review Day! Other days may offer a review problem, but Thursdays have problems that may come from 1st grade or the beginning of the year. I also added problems from other standards such as Measurement, Data, Geometry, and Number Patterns.*Fun Friday - Nothing says Fun Friday like Math! There is always a need to review. By keeping it short and sweet and including a fun personal question, this may help build your students’ confidence with different math skills while also keeping it fresh. The problems may also lead up to the understanding of Fractions in 3rd grade.I created this resource in my 3rd grade classroom because I saw a need to continuously review these key areas. By following this same structure each week, students know what to expect while they are also building their confidence in these essential math areas. I have also found several other benefits from this morning work routine: *Routine!- My students knew exactly what to do when they come in the classroom.*Short & Sweet- There are only a few problems so it shouldn’t take longer than 10 minutes. This will also let you know if students are still having difficulty with a certain skill.*Fewer Copies- Only one sheet of paper for the whole week! (Copy front and back)*A Weekly Grade- My students know this and do not want to do the work for homework or have a poor grade. This helped get them started right away in the morning. I also go over the problems each morning and allowed students to fix their work before turning it in. In my opinion, this is beneficial because it keeps the students engaged as we go over it, ESPECIALLY if they had difficulty with it. This was also beneficial for students because if they paid attention and “added on to their thinking,” they will earn a good grade that will be added weekly. For students that already struggle, this is confidence building and motivating.🛑 Are you a member of the TLL Membership? These materials are already included. For the past couple of years, I have been using my 1st grade Morning Work packets every morning. I have had many requests over the years

I hope everyone has gotten a good start on filling their shopping buggies for the TPT sale. Seriously, I've got to narrow down my list. Right now, I think if you spread out all the pages from the packets I want, plus all of the clip art I want it would probably stretch all the way to Texas. You know the sad part? I am really not exaggerating. Anyway, since we are talking about the sale, I have to share pictures of my newest packet. It is my favorite packet I've ever created. I've created a lot of packets, but this one is my heart. Every summer I like to give my kids a packet to do over the summer. My deal with them is if they complete it and bring it back to me, I will buy them an ice cream. We work so hard during the school year, so I definitely don't want to torture them during their off time, but I don't want them to lose what we have worked on either. So, I created a packet that gives students three front and back worksheets for each week of their summer vacation. My favorite part is it is a variety of all the standards. I'm also planning to use this template to create homework and morning work packets for next school year. Here are a few pictures of the packet and in case you still aren't 100% sure this is what you want, then click on any of the pictures and it will take you to my TPT store where you can download the preview. I only included pictures for week two since week one is in my preview and all of the weeks are formatted in the same way. This packet includes 10 weeks worth of summer review. In other news, my friend Jessica at Second Grade Nest started a cute, little linky party. The thing I like about this one is she calls it the "Getting to Know You" link up. The link up this week is a "Day in the Life of..." I took my pictures Saturday, but there has been so much to share lately that I put it on hold until today. 6:15 - My computer is already running and I'm working on blogging, pinning, etc. Slept so much Friday night, I was ready to go Saturday. 10:00 - Breakfast at the computer. The hubby made us Sister Schubert sausage rolls. YUM!!! As you can tell, I'm going through a green apple soda phase. The hubby want touch them, but I heart these drinks! Good thing is they are difficult to find, so I don't drink them often. 12:00 - Does this look familiar? I'm really working on making samples to go with my writing packets. I know I don't like buying writing packets with crafts unless there is a visual somewhere, so time to cut and put a sample together. 2:45 - Happy birthday to two of my four nieces! The birthday was supposed to be outside, but we got TONS of rain, so it was moved to McD's. It's hard to believe how fast they are growing. 3:45 - Happy birthday to me!!!! Yeah, maybe not. My birthday was in March. Either way, I have been dying to get a new stylus so I can work on making some of my own clip art this summer. Don't worry my clip art friends. I only want to make it for when I don't have time to wait. That's all on pictures, but after that things got crazy with the summer packet. I don't think I left my desk for 8 hours straight. If you want to go learn about some more of my favorite bloggers, click on the button below. It will take you to Jessica's blog which by the way, was designed by the friend that is designing mine. Have to tell you guys, Christi (The blog designer) is the real deal! I am so impressed by her! Mine is almost finished and it looks fantabulous.
