In 1 Timothy 2 Paul tells us to pray “lifting up pure hands”. What is meant? St. Ambrose says that this lifting of pure hands is accomplished when we take up our cross, embrace our baptism, and show it forth to all by our actions to all and sundry. Then our prayer is effective.

This reminded me of the story due to the monk and that sweet little smile, with the addition of the protective nature of the kitten in the hood.
