The truth about the crop top movement is that it has existed since the 1970s. The cropped shirt was originally created by men for men and was part of men's fashion for years before women began wearing them. It started in the early 70s with weight lifters cutting off the bottom of their shirts to gets around GYM dress codes that banned shirtless men. Crop tops soon spread to other athletic pursuits such track and field, cross country running, and amateur football. In the late 70s crop tops had become common in disco dance clubs and with urban counter culture movements. The golden age of the boys crop top was the 1980s when name brand clothing retailers such as Nike marketed cropped t-shirts and sports jerseys to teens and young men. Hollywood movies glorified men in cropped shirts in films such as Bill & Ted's excellent adventure, Survival Run, Rocky III, the original Nightmare on Elm Street, Old Enough, Electric Boogaloo, and Over the Edge. The goal of this blog is restore the glory days when it was common for guys to wear cropped shirts.
