My students LOVE doing stop-motion videos! Stop motion is a fantastic way to encourage creativity while having students show off what they have learned. This project is engaging, Common Core, and student-centered. Students can create a stop-motion animation for any discipline, including math, history, science, or language arts. Students are grouped or paired and they use their phones, Chromebooks, or iPads with an easy FREE Stop Motion Studio APP. Don't worry about instruction, the APP has great instructional videos on YouTube and it's super intuitive for students. Note: Only one phone or iPAD is needed per group, but ALL group members participate. This assignment comes with: 1. Teacher instructions with YouTube video links for instruction, easy format choices, and tons of examples. 2. Student graphic organizers with main idea and supporting evidence/topic spaces to ensure content is analyzed and supported. 3. Student storyboard graphic organizers. 4. The Prisoner (Trailer) from Adrien Deggan on Vimeo. All the walls are removable to allow easy access for the camera. I built them out of thin plywood, shaped foam, stones from the beach and lots of plaster and paint. For the detail in the foam I used a hot iron to carve it out. That was a lot of fun however I would suggest doing this outdoors. The fumes are really unpleasant. The door I made out of rough cedar and the hings out of hammered out nails. The rust is authentic. I simply added some acid to accelerate the process. Detail of the prisoner's bed made from a piece of burlap and dried grasses. You can see on the edge the iron grating I used for the ground. This enabled me to place earth magnets (really strong magnets) underneath the set to anchor the puppet's feet in place. Detail of the graffiti on the cell wall.
