Casi un millón de segundos de observación con el Observatorio de Rayos X Chandra de la NASA ha revelado nuevos datos sobre la galaxia espiral similar a la Vía Láctea Messier 51 (M51), aunque a menudo se la conoce como la "Galaxia del Remolino". Según han explicado los expertos, al igual que la Vía Láctea, el nuevo objeto espacial es una galaxia espiral con espectaculares brazos formados de estrellas y polvo. Además, la orientación de M51, que se encuentra a 30 millones de años luz de la Tierra, permite a los astrónomos obtener una perspectiva que nunca se podrá observar de la Vía Láctea.
