Foundational Knowledge for the Practice of Family Medicine in West Africa is a selection of introductory concepts from the literature using literature search and review, collection of lectures from eminent Family Physicians from South Africa, Canada UK and the US , lecture notes , seminal essays, journal articles that guided the author through the transition from general practice to family medicine in the 1980s and 90 s .The concept of family medicine in West Africa was a paradigm shift from a specialty conception of a conglomeration of independent specialties in General Practice to a unique specialty with its own distinct identity with a fundamental principle based on the biopsychosocial model. The specialty draws a distinctive identity from its approach to care by placing emphasis on the contextual setting of the patient starting with the family and extending to the sociocultural and economic environment. This composite approach to health care was new and confusing to the uninitiated medical graduate undergoing a residency training taught in the traditional biomedical reductionist model and other medical specialist who asked what new knowledge we were bringing to the table that other specialist was not already teaching. As for those teachers of family medicine in the subregion it was quite clear as to the need for this conceptual framework in Family Medicine as opposed to the limitation of General Practice and this book documents the struggle to positions Family Medicine as a separate specialty of Medicine in West Africa. | Author: Victor Inem | Publisher: Xlibris Us | Publication Date: Jun 10, 2019 | Number of Pages: 144 pages | Language: English | Binding: Hardcover | ISBN-10: 179603682X | ISBN-13: 9781796036824
Millions of people are hardworking and ambitious, but, as we have explained in the book, only a select few have the discipline to adopt the Simplicity Paradigm in a disciplined manner.

This introductory textbook on international relations theory brings together a selection of leading experts to offer an unparalleled insight into the main paradigms and latest developments in the discipline. Presenting a full range of theories, from realism and liberalism to institutionalism and green theory, the sixth edition of this book has been extensively revised to offer a more global introduction to international relations. It showcases insights from across the world, and employs a historical and sociological perspective throughout to demonstrate how any understanding of IR is time and place contingent. New to this edition are two new chapters on postcolonialism and institutionalism, as well as boxed cases which apply theory to contemporary empirical examples including gendered policy in the UN, the phenomenon of ‘fake news’, issues on migration, and the crisis of the Amazon’s forest fires. Assuming no prior knowledge of international relations theory, this text remains the definitive companion for all students of international relations and anyone with an interest in the latest scholarship of this fascinating field.

A close friend sent me a story about a researcher who was suing to get a university job position restored, after getting fired for being different. Here is that news piece. Nothing remarkably enlightening about the story. But as is frequently the case, the informative bits are found in the post article commentary left

The field of epigenetics is one of the most exciting and rapidly expanding scientific research areas in the study of the genome and how it responds adaptively in organisms. The term epigenetics is derived from genetics plus the Greek prefix epi, which means “on top of” or “in addition to.” In other words, it’s an additional type of genomic language that overlays the DNA code that controls how genes are switched on or off. It even determines the three-dimensional structure of the chr

This volume celebrates fifty years of NeMLA's important presence in the world of academia with a collection of essays that adopt a transnational critical lens. With the present selection, we intend to add our voices to the ongoing debate centered on the renegotiation of space, national, and cultural geographies; to foster both the re-thinking of language(s) and literature(s) not exclusively in English and the study of race, gender, sexuality, and class within and across national boundaries. Most pertinently for this collection, we hope to add meaningful material to produce new theoretical paradigms and to rethink the role and significance of the humanities in today's world. In this light, 'Transnational Spaces: Celebrating Fifty Years of Literary, Cultural, and Language Intersections at NeMLA' offers a contribution to the study of our present, transnational condition, from the point of view of an organization, the 'Northeast Modern Language Association', that since its inception in 1969, has sought to provide a space of encounter, debate, and open intellectual exchange for all its members as well as for the academe at large. The essays contained in this volume emphasize the interdependency and interrelations engendered by the globalized world in which we live, highlighting the possibility to create new knowledge and forms of understanding across the boundaries of nationhood and region. At the same time, they remind us that the present situation calls for a radical self-examination of a history of systemic racism which continues to produce episodes of police brutality, rationalizes cultural and economic exclusion, and normalizes the incarceration of African Americans and "illegal" immigrants, including children and minorities. In this light, with this volume, we hope to have provided inclusive, egalitarian, and cosmopolitan spaces of encounter, exchange, and interrogation. | Author: Carine Mardorossian, Simona Wright | Publisher: Vernon Press | Publication Date: Aug 16, 2023 | Number of Pages: 144 pages | Language: English | Binding: Paperback | ISBN-10: 1648897754 | ISBN-13: 9781648897757
IT IS TIME FOR A NEW THEORY OF EVOLUTION BASED ON GENOMICS, NOT GUESSES In 2011, James A. Shapiro's Evolution: A View from the 21st Century proposed a revolutionary paradigm for understanding biological evolution: natural genetic engineering, not random accidents, produce genome change. In the 21st-century view, organisms are active participants in the evolutionary process. Since then, climate change and multiple crises in infectious disease have given new urgency to understanding evolution. In this expanded 2nd Edition, Shapiro shares new evidence that living cells re-engineer their genomes in response to environmental challenges and disruptions to cellular reproduction. From the classroom to the laboratory, conventional wisdom still paints evolution as the passive result of mutational accidents and natural selection. A modern vision of evolution recognizes that all living beings, from the simplest organisms to humans, actively modify their read-write (RW) genomes as they evolve. In an unpredictable world, the ability to evolve actively is essential to survival. Today, understanding evolution is equally critical to our shared future. Read this book to learn: How interactions with other species, cells, and viruses shape an organism's evolution How better understanding evolution can help protect our health, food supply, and planet How to apply lessons from molecular genetics and genomics wisely to benefit society Written for both general and academic readers, the 2nd Edition includes: Discussions of the latest thinking on evolutionary processes Published scientific papers sharing key research from the past decadeThe full text of the 2011 edition with appendices
The postulate of molecules-to-human evolution by natural selection (evolutionism), like creationism, cannot be demonstrated empirically. Therefore, the creationism-evolutionism controversy offers a choice between intelligent design by God and unintelligent design by evolutionary selection. Scientists are split on philosophical grounds since events in the immaterial realm are outside the purview of science. In reality, designers claim products; no product of a process, can account for how it was designed or for its ontology. Accordingly, Scientific American Editor John Rennie suggested that one way to override a purely evolutionary worldview is, if the creator/s appeared and claimed credit. Author Michael Ebifegha's previous book The Death of Evolution provides the historical details of God's ancient claim for creating the universe before an audience. Dawkins, in his The God Delusion, failed to address this historical event; hence, his statement that "There almost certainly is no God" is flawed. The Darwinian Delusion discusses the fossil record, the role of natural selection; the mystery of the origin of life and God's affirmation of agency in world history. Ebifegha argues that both the scientific and philosophical analysis point to God as the Creator and hence the delusion as such is not about God, but about the Darwinian paradigm of materialism. | Author: Michael Ebifegha | Publisher: Citiofbooks, Inc. | Publication Date: Jul 27, 2023 | Number of Pages: 342 pages | Language: English | Binding: Paperback | ISBN-10: 1960952242 | ISBN-13: 9781960952240
