A set of four Stool 60s produced by Artek. During the war period Artek opened factories in neutral Sweden where supplies were still available. What they produced were slight variations on the classic: slimmer legs, a shaped ‘solid’ wooden top veneered with birch. It is said that American based company Pascoe imported this variation for...
“Humanistic Modernism” – works by Alvar Aalto in the World Heritage Context. Seminar on Alvar Aalto and UNESCO World Heritage 2019.
Design pioneer Alvar Aalto’s asymmetrical waves (“aalto” in Finnish) won the 1937 Paris World Fair. In the decades since, they’ve become an icon of Scandinavian interior design. Taking inspiration from the thousands of lakes in his native Finland, Aalto’s waves combine function and sculpture. Each Aalto vase goes through a multi-step production process at the Iittala Glass Factory. First, the vase is mouthblown, then hand cut before going through several polishings. The clear decorative glass vase is a versatile, striking addition to any home interior. Perfect gift idea. Size9.24" x 8.8" x 6.25"

When Alvar Aalto’s statement-making Armchair 41 “Paimio” premiered in 1932, it was hailed as a revolutionary interpretation of the club chair and set new standards in modern furniture design. The chair, which is an object in MoMA’s collection, combines a traditional outline with a light, organic form. Armchair 41’s seat is fixed to the design's frame at only four points, creating the delightful illusion that the seat is floating. This construction also provides an amazing degree of elasticity. The armrests are made from a single piece of solid birch wood that is form-bent and then split in half. This ensures that over time, the Armchair 41 “Paimio” remains perfectly balanced. The elegant, sculptural seat and backrest are made from form-pressed birch plywood. Made in Finland, the Armchair 41 “Paimio” measures 25.25h x 23.5w x 31.5”d. The chair’s manufacturer, Artek, is represented in MoMA’s collection
The Paimio Sanatorium is considered to be one of Alvar Aalto’s most important works. The functionalist building was built as a tuberculosis sanatorium. It is situated in the middle of a beautiful pine forest and is an impressive site up to this day.
