Interior of the Bath Abbey
Call it divine intervention. After three years of restoration, plus six of master-planning, the housands of square feet of scaffolding have finally come down from St. Patrick's Cathedral in Midtown, just in time for Pope Francis's late September visit, an unplanned yet fortuitous synchronicity.

Christ on the cross and the scissor arches of Wells Cathedral. During the 14th century the central supports of the crossing (the junction of a Cathedral's four arms) were found to be sinking. In 1338 Bishop Ralph (stop sniggering at the back) of Salisbury decided to build internal scissor arches to support the weight. I don't know if he had any other bright ideas in his lifetime, but this must have been his best. Fast forward 670 years and Wells has a unique place among cathedrals in the UK. Ely Cathedral was built by William the Conqueror as a prominent outpost after the bloody and lengthy rebellion by Hereward the Wake. Ely Cathedral (in full, The Cathedral Church of the Holy and Undivided Trinity of Ely) is the principal church of the diocese of Ely, in Cambridgeshire, England, and the seat of the Anglican Bishop of Ely. It is known locally as "the ship of the Fens", because of its prominent shape that towers above the surrounding flat and watery landscape. View On Black

Shot on an early morning visit to Gloucester cathedral, UK. Anyone who lives within a reasonable distance and enjoys a bit of decadent architecture - I'd very much recommend a visit. Getting there early pays off, as you miss the floods of tourists, not that there's anything wrong with tourists, but it's nice to have the place to yourself for some desolate photos.
