In patterning our life after the Savior's we should seek for opportunities to serve those around us. In Mosiah 2:17 it states, "...when ye are in the service of your fellow beings ye are only in the service of your God." As Relief Society sisters, we have tremendous opportunity to watch out for those around us that need that loving hand of help. When we feel impressed to help someone we need to listen to those promptings and act upon them. We can provide service to others individually or we can do this as a family. Teaching our children the importance of unselfishness, love, and sacrifice. One thing that we did with our kids a few months back was thirty days of service. Each day we did an act of service for thirty days. It was fun to see them serve others and discuss the happy feelings we each individually felt from doing so. Here are some ideas:

Last year I helped my sister plan the annual Activity Days Camp for the 8-12 (now 11) year olds of
I know I have quite a few followers that are Activity Day leaders, and lets be honest that's one of my dream callings! My cute mom serves in the Activity Days in her ward and I am so jealous of those girls. We all know my mom gives 110% to anything she decides to do. So to help out those followers that are leaders for Activity Days, and to let me live vicariously through you all I want to share my moms latest (most adorable) activity! She started the activity by meeting in the Primary room as they usually do, we had already set up the party in the Relief Society room. After they did their usual introductions and everyone had arrived the other leaders turned the time over to my mom. She acted like she didn't know it was her turn and that she forgot to plan anything. The girls were shocked because come on it's my mom! haha She went on to say that they could clean the church for their activity. The girls were so bummed that they had to clean for their activity, my mom told them to start all together in the next room (the Relief Society room). When the girls walked in they were so surprised and excited-and glad to be doing something other than cleaning the church! haha In lieu of little birthday presents given on each girls birthday my mom thought it would be so fun to throw a surprise party for all of them at the same time! She had all the traditional birthday things. The Warners love to have a candy guessing game at almost every party! It's super simple to do, just fill a jar with candy and make sure you count the candy as your filling and then tie with a ribbon. When everyone walks in to the party have them guess how many candy is in the jar and write down their guess with their name. As the party is going on step away and see who got the closest, the winner gets the jar full of candy. The cute cupcake box (from Hobby Lobby) she used for the numbers with the cake walk, but she even wanted to use it for prizes for the games. It made a perfect decoration too! She decorated with bubblegum confetti (genius and found at Dollar Tree) and balloons. Simple and adorable! The theme was perfect for Activity Day age girls 8-11! If you'd like to learn more about Activity Days you can click HERE! No party is complete without favors! My mom filled these adorable clear pails (Walmart in party section) with some super cute goodies: donut ring (from Hobby Lobby), cupcake container (Walmart during Easter) filled with M&M's, chapstick (Dollar Tree), lollipop (Amazon), Zebra gum (Dollar Tree), party blower (Dollar Tree), pencil, Birthday notepad (Walmart with printable made by my sister Brittany), candy bracelet (Dollar Tree), hair band/tie (Dollar Tree), and Frooties (Zurchers). She had the table set for them to play a few games and enjoy a little treat later on. My contribution to the party was making the cutest little birthday cake and cupcakes. To find my post full of the recipes I used you can go HERE! She even had a fun photo booth for the girls to take pictures and just have fun with. She put up sprinkle wrapping paper (Hobby Lobby) as the backdrop and the Happy Birthday banner (Dollar Tree). She found these adorable props, including the Happy Birthday crown at Dollar Tree. Silver streamers found at Zurchers were the perfect thing in the middle of the table with those adorable confetti bubblegum! They had cupcakes and ice cream, she used the little ice creams in the plastic cups with the wooden spoons for easy serving and clean up. Happy Birthday cake topper found at Zurchers. She played Happy Birthday Bingo that my sister made with the cutest little cupcake erasers as markers. They also played music while they did the cake walk (like musical chairs but with cupcakes), and they were each able to color a cute little coloring sheet! Find all the printable on my sisters Teachers Pay Teachers account HERE! Make sure to follow her, she does the cutest things! I loved that she kept it easily within budget and was able to find the cutest things for such a good price. Her tip is to find things at Dollar Tree that have multiples that cut the cost, and always make sure you are using a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby! I would say it was one of the cutest activities she's done to date! Wouldn't you!? Remember to find the printables my sister made, go HERE! SaveSave

I don't know why I didn't think of putting this together before now! The very first thing I did when I got called as an Activity Days leader was go to Staples and I got a binder for all my stuff. Whether you have just been called or you want a little help getting organized, this starter kit is perfect! FOR THE LEADERS: 1. Binder Cover Sheet 2. Roster (Parent's Name, Girl's Name, Birthday, Phone Number, Text?, Email, Address) 3. Achievement Record 4. Attendance Record 5. Calendars ( First one is January - June, the second is July-December) When I was the leader, I would fill out these calenders and then give them to the girls every 6 months. Please refer to the picture I posted to see how I fill in the blanks (there's a spot for the date, activity name and which achievement category it falls under) 6. Birthday Record 7. Planning Form ( Idea Name, Achievement Category, Budget Estimate, Details FOR THE GIRLS: *All of these are sized 5x7 so the leader (or the girls) can cut them down and fit them in scriptures. 1. Faith In God & My Gospel Standards 2. Articles of Faith & Achievement Record **** UPDATE **** I've added a couple more pages to this packet! "Welcome Page" This is especially great if you are in the Primary Presidency to give to anyone who is newly called as an Activity Days leader. "Welcome to Activity DAYS! We hope that you enjoy this calling very much. Here is an introduction that will hopefully give you a better idea of what this calling entails..." It has information from both the Faith In God book and lds.org. "Faith in God Award Certificate" There's already is a Faith In God Award certificate in the Faith in God book, but just in case any leaders don't have access to the one in the book or for whatever reason this could come in handy, I included it :)

We had an activity on the importance of writing in journals. We talked about how it can help us remember things, help our ancestors understand how we lived, and how it can help us think through what is going on in our lives. Writing in a journal can be difficult to do so I wanted to help give the girls some motivation for what to write about. I found something similar on Pinterest and adapted it for my group. The one I saw only had about six colors of M&Ms; each color represented something you could write about in a journal. I didn't think that was enough. I came up with 11 general things that 8 year old girls could write about in their journals. To get a total of 11 different colors of plain M&Ms, I bought a pack at Costco with the usuals then went to Zurchers and got some individual colors (which, by the way, are a lot more expensive than I thought they'd be). Here's the list of things I thought the girls could write about. Something interesting that happened today (or since the last entry). Something you do well or did well today. Something interesting or fun you remembered today and what made you think of it. Something about school. Something you learned today/recently. Something you are grateful for. Something you did for someone else or something nice someone did for you. Something you have a question about or want to understand better or an answer you received. Something you want for the future. Something about your family/friends. For the activity, I gave each girl a small pad of paper, a colored pen (they thought colored pens were the greatest), and a bag full of M&Ms. I had the girls choose an M&M, use their guide to figure out what they were supposed to write about for that color, then gave them some time to write (which was pretty difficult for some of them). Then they ate their M&M and chose another one.

Summer vacation is coming but you still have time to make it fun! Here are some fun ways to end the school year to make it memorable!
When I was 7 years old, my Grandpa let me in on his annual tradition of surprising my Grandma with a May Day basket. We’d sneak up the front steps like ninjas, hang our homemade paper basket of wild flowers on the door handle, ring the doorbell and run like our lives depended on it! It quickly became one of my favorite days of the year. May Day (May 1st) is a great excuse to celebrate life with your family. Even if you've never celebrated May Day before, there's no time like the present to start a new family tradition.
