Scagiola chimneypiece in the Round Room at Strawberry Hill,Twickenham. The house was built between 1749 to 1776 for Horace Walpole with William Robinson, and later James Essex as executive architects. The design was developed by the 'committee of taste', Richard Bentley, John Chute, and Walpole himself. Some of the interiors were designed by Bentley, Chute, and, in the 1760s, by Thomas Pitt (later Lord Camelford), and Robert Adam. The Round Room dates from 1770. The scagiola chimneypiece by Adam, designed in 1767, was based on the tomb of Edward the Confessor in Westminster Abbey.
