Now, here's my own story on being on the first show of Bandstand with Bob Horn, and how it changed my life.
LIKE EVERY KID IN THE LATE FIFTIES, I GREW UP WITH AMERICAN BANDSTAND AS A SAFE PLACE TO GO WHEN I WAS CHASED HOME AFTER SCHOOL. THE DANCERS WERE BROTHERS AND SISTERS I NEVER HAD, AND DICK CLARK WA…
Classic TV Shows - Dick Clark's American Bandstand
Bobby Rydell was one of the hometown stars to emerge from Dick Clark's "American Bandstand" during its early years aired on ABC from Philadelphia (1957-64). The Philly guys, also including Fabian and Frankie Avalon, were prime heartthrobs for the first generation of TV kids glued to the tube. Now those viewers are older adults, and after Rydell's 2022 passing, they may appreciate this little piece of remembrance. Our copy of Rydell's 1962 album "All the Hits" has a cover that's stunningly shiny (60 years later!) -- and you gotta love that "contemporary" record player he's rocking. It couldn't look any cooler displayed or framed as home decor. If only the "Hits" vinyl itself were in better shape. Pre-loved to the extreme, it now bears the scars: surface noise, many pops/clicks, even a few skips on the first side. The second side sounds much better, but is not ideal, either. One fairly clear song, though, is Rydell's hit single from this LP, "I've Got Bonnie" -- so if you've got a Bonnie, this could be the item for you. And we're throwing in a great BONUS record. "Starring Bobby Rydell" has a first side full of Rydell's pre-fame singles. They really rock, with backing from The Isley Brothers! (The second side features Charlie Francis.) This album has a gorgeous cover to display, too. And its vinyl plays beautifully! --- The DETAILS: --- ► All the Hits (Cameo C 1019 mono) Twistin' the Night Away Break It to Me Gently Dream Baby What's Your Name The One Who Really Loves You I've Got Bonnie I'll Never Dance Again I Know Don't Break the Heart That Loves You Baby It's You Soldier Boy Hey Baby -- Plus your BONUS album: -- ► Starring Bobby Rydell (Spin-O-Rama S-143) Starring Bobby Rydell-- Dream Age Slang Book A Winner Can't Lose Fatty Fatty Rockin' Farm Starring Charlie Francis-- Little Girl Loving You, Baby This Is Love She Knows Liz, Do the Right Thing ------- Our vinyl finds are expertly wet-cleaned, and returned to their jackets inside fresh inner sleeves. (If a record was found with a custom inner sleeve, we include that.) They are spot-played to ensure no overall listening problems. Due to the nature of pre-loved vinyl, a few scattered pops/clicks may remain. We strive to find these artifacts in the best condition, but at the lowest prices, to give you affordable fine listening. With proper care, these albums should provide many more decades of enjoyment. And always, FREE shipping for orders totaling $35+

Fifty years ago, Philadelphia was at the heart of the American pop music scene. And then, almost overnight, it wasn't. Local music historian Jack McCarthy brings us the story

Dick Clark (aka "America's Oldest Teenager") passed away yesterday at the age of 82. As the host of American Bandstand and the perennial harbinger of New Year's Eve, Dick Clark was there for a lot of pop culture moments. While so many people today are remembering American Bandstand for the musical acts and as a nostalgic reminder of a really transitional time in America, we're looking at it as an amazing lesson in fashion history. From that wasp-waisted 1950's silhouette that ruled at the show's inception to the bell bottoms (which plague us still) of the show's 1970s heyday, take a peek at the fashion cycle (seriously, it all comes back) on the American Bandstand stage. A picture of Cher in 1982 wearing leopard print pants? Pretty sure we see that outfit 10 times a day near our office here in Soho. Click through for to see Dick Clark through the years and some of the musical acts that defined American Bandstand--and, of course, what they wore.
1 9 5 2 - 1 9 8 9 (USA) American Bandstand became a powerful symbol of American teenage culture with its nearly four-decade look at the ever-changing tastes of the country's youth. Featuring guest artists who lip-synced to their latest tunes, and a teenage audience whose members danced for the cameras, the show launched a conga
