So Pantone has announced the color of the year 2014 - Radiant Orchid (18-3224), and the beauty world is already buzzing about it. I still am not so sure of the importance of "declaration of a color" each year, but hey, I always (secretly) look for a reason to buy new makeup and if it is good for the economy, I don't know. (Feel free to enlighten me, though.) Still, not having to buy a new Radiant Orchid item right away is a good start, because I remembered I had this purple polish. Butter London Scoundrel Pretty close, right? Being a purple lover (and also a green hater), I think I like the color Radiant Orchid better than the Emerald of this year. Except, I don't think this particular color of purple is necessarily an easy one to pull off unlike this opinion. It often draws ruddiness from complexion and looks outdated if it's paired wrong with shimmer. Butter London Scoundrel is a nice example of "Radiant Orchid", and its formula is also excellent. It applies smoothly with no streaks. The opacity was achieved just by one coat. (Seriously, I think Butter London does creme polish the best although they seem to struggle with glitters.) I would still prefer Butter London Toff over Scoundrel for neutral winter polish, but Scoundrel is very much wearable thanks to the mauve and a bit of grey thrown in it. For more spring-appropriate purple, Butter London Molly Coddled comes to mind. (Here is a nice comparison of these two - Scoundrel vs Molly Coddled) What do you think of the Pantone Color Of The Year 2014, Radiant Orchid? Would you be sporting makeup and fashion items in this color? WebRep currentVote noRating noWeight
Easter is not the only time when you can see and buy little colored chicks. This is an ongoing thing in Metro Manila. On Sundays, you will see them being sold near the Catholic churches, along with flowers, balloons and other items to catch a buyer's eye. When I see them, it always brings a smile to my face, remembering a conversation our daughter, Sandra, and our house helper had on the way home from church one day. Sandra: "Oh! Look at the little baby chicks! How do they dye them?" Helper: "They slit their throats" While trying not to laugh too hard and embarrass our helper, we had to explain to a shocked Sandra, that she misunderstood the word "dye" for "die". Just one of many misunderstandings with language and culture here, but one that makes me laugh every time I think of it.
