PARABLE of the Sower - SEEDS AMONG THORNS "The Parable of the Sower" is about faith & unbelief. It's about sharing our faith with others and dealing with the trials and tribulations that come along with witnessing. We are all part of God's Growing Garden and the types of seeds that we are planting in His garden are: grace, mercy and forgiveness. In this Parable there are 4 different ways to receive the gospel or 4 different sorts of people who come in contact with the gospel. Today we will be focusing on the seeds sown among thorns. The seed is always the same: the gospel is the seed, which is the saving grace and mercy of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior. The soil types are different. I was going to say that we are the soil but I think that the environment that we live in is the soil. Once this seed sprouts and a plant appears - this symbolizes our birth as a Christian. How that plant continues to grow is the type of believer that we become. Together we are all part of the garden which is the family of God. Explanation AMONG THORNS: I'm sure that we have all been pricked by a thorn at some point in our life. I was trying to think of the most "thorny" plant that I have seen or grown; for sure the rose comes to mind but I think that the thistle wins this contest. A thistle (and a thorn in general) is impressive, sharp, prickly and can't be ignored. If the thistle is not dealt with properly it will take over your garden and you will not be able to grow any other plant. This is also what can happen with fame & fortune - both are impressive and can't be ignored. Wealth and popularity can change our focus on Jesus to the world - fame & fortune chokes our Christian walk. This worldly pressure squeezes out our faith and someday you will turn around and find yourself in a field of thistles where no vegetable or fruit can live. The thistle is tall, striking and influential but it produces no fruit. I see it all the time in modern society - the wealthiest and most popular figures are not satisfied and end up in ruin. If you keep your focus on Jesus you can grow into a fruitful tree - even among the thorns. If you find yourself in a field of thistles - look up and keep your focus on your Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Life Ecstasy Among Thorns - Poems is Dr. G.S. Kushwaha's fourth bookof English poetry. The author's writing is continually fresh, engaging andimpressive resource with simple but forcefulness of language, again exhibited to full effect. Readers would come across the distinctive descriptions of sombre, delicate and translucent fragrance like those of 'Sing I of Locked love'. You will embark on a journey discovering manifold sentiments, through the poetic lines of this volume. Love poems of tender longing and the woes of parting will certainly impress you. Nature with its fragrant bloom and hush would make you feel as if living in paradise. The leadership corrupt 'Eat they porridge and dust voters lick'. The readers will taste the fruits of human obsession of sensuality, intolerance, agitation, treason, emotions, anger envy, and denial of life morals. The life of elderly people is quite gruesome when they 'Blubber and shed tears colder'. We are led by appearances, 'Some seems glorious/in acts disgrace'. These and many other thoughts will invite you to sing: 'Love swells, serene the earth/Creatures find life living worth'. Many such lines will certainly allure the book lovers to find out something unique for a convincing read.
Beauty Among Thorns is an intricate looking pattern that is actually not very difficult because of "speed" piecing. The quilt pictured is a wall hanging, but it would be lovely as bed quilt for a twin, queen or king. One block could also be used for an accent pillow. The choice is yours! Finished Size: 40" x 40"

Will Bonsall has spent a lifetime scattering seeds across the country. But will his efforts fall among the thorns?
Much like the lilies among the thorns, fantasy and reality are definitely not compatible. Fantasy gives one the ability to imagine, what might someday be, but reality gives one the opportunity to live in real time his or her dream. Some people have very little imagination and, therefore, envision very few dreams. Some people, on the other hand, make fantasy their lifelong reality and thereby exist in a false reality, living the life of a lily among thorns. -Bernard Davis Jr.

Last night the topic of guilt came up in our bible study. Immediately my mind took me back to the days when guilt and shame were my shackles of choice. Guilt was a familiar feeling that I believed I had to live with. You see, I carried the guilt of my friend's hopelessness with me that led her to suicide. I held myself responsible for my grandfather's death. I accused my lack of faith, wrong decisions and attitude for the straying away of a loved one. The shame of my past bound me. I understood that God had forgiven me, but I could not forget myself. That is till a friend spoke words of truth into my life. In short she said, "Raquel, your grandfather died because that's the hour the Lord chose to take Him. Do you really think that you are greater than God? Or that you determine life and death? Whoa! Whoa! Whoa! These words shook me and took me for a ride. Not only was my grandfather's death flashed before me, but every guilt and every shame that had crippled me. I had a questions to deal with in light of the truth my friend had spoken: Was I assuming to be greater than God by not forgiving myself? Would I continue believing the lie that I was responsible and accountable for what God had willed and permitted? That night began a process of God replacing truth for lies, a deep healing, and setting me free. His grace was so gentle and sweet. For if our heart condemns us, God is greater than our heart, and knows all things. 1 John 3:20 Dear Friend, has guilt made your heart its home? Is your mind clouded with shameful memories? Is your faith crippled? Have you made yourself responsible for choices God has made or the choices others have taken? Are you holding yourself accountable for actions or events that the Lord has forgiven you for? Do you find it difficult to forgive your self and move forward? God is greater than your sin. God is greater than your shortcomings. God is greater than your mistakes. God is greater than your failures. God is greater than you. God is greater than your heart. God is greater than your memories. God is greater than your ability to forgive and forget. God is Great. Allow today for the grace of God to shatter the shackles of guilt and deliver you from the shame that condemns you. God is love, and it is His perfect love that will perfect you. It's a process, be patient with Him as He replaces lies with truth, heals you, and sets you free. Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. 1 John 4:17-18 But love covers all sins. Proverbs 10:12

Imagine yourself having one foot planted on one continent while the other foot is on another continent. A huge transformational step, isn't it? That's precisely what Inno Onwueme's early-life story does. One foot is planted firmly in the traditional African village where age-old customs mingle with poverty, disease, ignorance, and deprivation. The other foot pivots tanta-lizingly in 1960's California, at the cutting edge of western civilization. Here, searing social and political upheavals of global significance were shaking the very foundations of modern America and the world. Add to the mix, a second dimension where your journey starts with a decade of colonial rule, and extends through the first decade of post-colonial inde-pendence, straddling both eras. And did we mention a civil war, and his becoming a refugee? It was a time of great fomentation personally, na-tionally and globally. Read this engaging story and enjoy it as a thrilling novel, richly spiced with African proverbs. Then pinch yourself and recall that this is not fiction. It all truly happened. This was a real life being lived in exciting times. Challenge yourself to explore how the changes of the political transition intertwined with Professor Inno's transformation from an African village boy to a cosmopolitan man in America. Marvel at how the history of an era was acted out in microcosm by this village boy. LIKE A LILY AMONG THORNS takes global and national metamorphosis down to the personal level. It invites you to see history in a new light.
