Gorgeous baby shower ideas for girls. Stunning baby shower inspiration featuring modern, striking ideas to create a beautiful party.
I think this was the quickest I've ever ganache'd a cake. I don't do late night baking/ caking sessions - I just get too tired and sloppy, then just have to fix all the boo-boos in the morning. So, I was working to a tight deadline with this cake (a gift for a friend's baby shower); squeezing it in between wrapping up classes with Dot Klerck and preparing for my own classes the next morning. And it was one of the smoothest, un-fussiest ganaching experiences I've ever had. Clearly working under pressure is good for me. (But not too often, thank you very much!) The great thing about making a cake like this, is that most of the time-consuming work can be done far in advance. The topper, roses and cake lace were all ready a week before the cake was due. The roses were made out of fondant mixed with tylose powder, in shades of burgundy and soft pink. The edible lace is Crystal Lace. The pram is a polystyrene semi-circle covered in fondant. The hood is tylose paste secured over a wire frame. And the cake, well - I'll tell you the saga of the cake itself another time ; ) Happy baking and caking! xxM

THE COLOURS OF MY DAYS
Enjoy Free Baby Shower Party Printables for a sweet baby girl. Hot pink and black designs are super fun for a Future Diva or mom that loves bling.
A couple weekends ago, I helped my friend Cortney throw a baby shower for her older sister Ashley, who is expecting her second baby boy soon. (Her first son is only 5 weeks younger than mine!) Ashley is decorating the new baby's nursery in a vintage comic book / superhero theme, which I think this is a fantastic concept for a nursery as it's something that will transition well as he grows older. We decided to apply this same theme to the shower, and took to Pinterest for some inspiration and ideas. Here is the invitation I designed: The decor included a large comic book cell with a "Supermom" arrow as the backdrop for Ashley's seat throughout the shower. This was created with posterboard, cardstock & a super wide Sharpie. I made some cardstock bunting with various superhero logos and a banner reading "Lil Man" in a font the style of Superman's logo (Lil Man banner font source). On one wall, I made these "explosion" tissue pom poms (inspired by these). If you've never made tissue pom poms before, they are really quite simple & quick to whip up. There are numerous tutorials online for them, but here's one if you want an easy reference. (For this version, I simply cut a V into the ends instead of rounding them as shown in the link.) Most of the cutting required for the above projects was done on my Cricut Explore, which saved my hands from a lot of pain and made it possible to get the more intricate designs. (Side note: For those who may be wondering whether I use this to cut shapes & letters for my Etsy shop products, it is only used for the cardstock backing on my banners. I haven't been able to get consistent results in my tests on felt, so I do cut all felt by hand, as advertised in my product descriptions.) The shower activities included a Price is Right themed game where Ashley Supermom had to guess which prices matched each baby item. Meanwhile, guests marked down their own guesses. You can create your own price tags for this game using this tag template and/or this font. The answer card I created is below, which you're welcome to use if you plan a superhero shower too. :) The parents haven't yet decided on what their new baby's name will be, so we also played an alphabet name game, where guests had to race to come up with a list of suggestions for the baby boy -- from A to Z. Cortney and I came up with some cute names to label the snacks and food with. I also cut and attached mini vintage comic strips (pages found online & printed off my computer) to the snack mix cups. My mom made cupcakes and brownies, for which I created star and superhero logo toppers by printing the designs off on cardstock, cutting by hand, then adhering two together with a toothpick in the middle. Take note -- if you are ever going to attempt something similar, make sure that your design is symmetrical. Some of the logos I was going to use were not symmetrical, and I didn't realize until I went to glue them together that putting them back-to-back resulted in logos which no longer lined up. Lesson learned! The easiest way to use an asymmetrical design would be to cut around it in a symmetrical shape, such as cutting a circle shape around a lightning bolt vs. around the edges of the lightning bolt. These party favors were very easy to put together -- just a cellophane treat bag filled with M&Ms and topped with a note on cardstock. Another friend ordered the awesome theme-appropriate cookies! It was a lot of fun helping come up with the ideas and putting it all together. Ashley is truly blessed with some wonderful friends and family and this baby is already so very loved! These are my favourite cupcakes to make and I do get quite attached to some of them. It all started last August when I made these for my Daughters Baby Shower and have now made several different variations of them. They are very much inspired by Plane
