After taking a look at Art Deco last week, I became curious about Art Nouveau. "What's the difference?" kept entering my mind. So I did a little research. Flower border Turns out I'm addressing them backwards: Art Nouveau (new art) is the earlier style and is more naturalistic. That should have been last week's inspiration. Art Nouveau architecture My mnemonic: First, art is "nouveau," (pronounced new-voe) and natural; it includes shapes from nature such as leaves, arcs, ferns. Note the arcs, parabolas, and flower stamens Then, it decorates and styles a space, including sleek, geometric lines, chrome, zigzags. This is a broadly defining way of remembering the differences, but I need something. As you look at the modern quilts below, note the arcs, parabolas, flowers, and stylized, contrasting lines. Do you agree that these have some elements of Art Nouveau? Do you find that they also have elements of Art Deco as well? It gets a little confusing, doesn't it?

When Christ's Heart was pierced on the Cross, blood and water flowed out, symbolizing the Eucharist and the forgiveness found in Baptism and the sacrament of Reconciliation. It is in the public domain in the US because the copyrights (if any) have expired. NOTE: Our prints are taken from an antique/vintage paintings, greeting cards, post cards etc.. Much of the time, these were originally printed on a soft and porous paper, which softened the images. They didn't have the technology back then to photo-shop and fix these images. That is why I chose to reproduce only antique art in it's original content (no photo-shop). I love the old school art. These are also paintings and drawings, and so the styles vary. The papers we use today, have special coatings so that they attract the inks or dyes well, and stop much of the seeping of the inks. Our new technologies print exactly what is on the scan of the original image. If you purchase canvas, it is made of cotton, and even though it also has this special coating, it is textured, and softens the look of the final result. It is archival, and of the highest quality, but is best for paintings since they were mostly created on artist canvas. It is important to note that if you are buying on your phone or tablet, the images you see are only tiny thumbnails, and so you can't really see the detail in the scan on the listing. If you can look on a computer, you can then see the depth and detail of the image you want. Artwork is not created equal, and sometimes there are clear and distinct lines, and other times the style is less detailed. I believe this to be a antique etching of anatomical art depicting legs, feet arms and hands by Frenchman Louis Phillipe Boitard born circa. 1734 died around 1760. Hailed as a highly skilled engraver and designer of his day. Boitard lived and worked in London and studied under Raymond Lefage. Marked C le Brun invit. and Drawing No 5. Signed Boitard Sculp. Anatomy observation studies of human legs, feet, arms and hand movements in various shapes. Judging by the delicate paper which has been bi-folded this may have originally been a plate within an old tome. What would have been a white background now appears as varigated sepia. The lines are bold black. The frame is vintage and made up of wood having a leaf pattern being of a greyish/black colour. Small parts of wood appear to have been marked to match original colour. The papers we use today, have special coatings so that they attract the inks or dyes well, and stop much of the seeping of the inks. Our new technologies print exactly what is on the scan of the original image. If you purchase canvas, it is made of cotton, and even though it also has this special coating, it is textured, and softens the look of the final result. It is archival, and of the highest quality, but is best for paintings since they were mostly created on artist canvas.
