I don't know if you have a "quilting bucket list", but I sure do! And a cathedral window quilt was at the top of that list! There's something so elegant and perplexing about how they're constructed and I always love a good challenge of figuring things out and stretching my skills and this quilt did just that! I first d

Tot blogs, Juud Remember; Better finished than perfect!

Did you know that I have a number of quilt patterns available? I thought it might be helpful to share them all in one post.
This quilt is my new FAVORITE! The unexpected color scheme is so interesting and everything coordinates in a unique way. The origin of this quilt began with the crab in 2021. Exactly one year ago I was doing a 30-day creative challenge and I developed a series of critters. The crab was one of them! I made a BIG

One of my most asked questions is: "How do you make animal eyes?" Animal eyes can seem intimidating, but they're actually easier than they look and so fun to make! My method of creating eyes involves what I call a "SAS tracing." A SAS tracing allows you to have total control over the shape you are trying to create w

I don't know if I've told you before, but I learned how to quilt while I lived in Japan in 2002. Japanese housewife culture, including their approach to quilting, has always fascenated me. I should have been an anthropologist and studied that more intensely, I know, but I got caught up in trying to communicate and became an ESL teacher instead. Anyway.. I discovered flickr in 2006 and the quilts I saw there lead me to start blogging about quilting. Tonight I want to share a handful of my favorite quilt photos from the Tokyo International Quilt festivals held each year in January. One year I'll make it there myself, but until then, I will live vicariously through Jennifer and Jan. (*I hate to post quilt photos without information about the makers, but sadly most of these pics don't include any. Apparently the quilter info is only printed in Japanese at the show. If you have any information for any of these quilts, please comment and I will give them proper credit.)
Here is Block 1 of my 2010 Block of the Month: Florabunda. I’m a little new to putting patterns up on my blog so if you have any trouble downloading the pattern let me know by leaving a comment. I have the pattern in two forms. The first is a full size pattern (12” square you can download here ) that you can save to a USB drive and take to a copy place to have printed. The other is a ¼ size drawing (download here) that should print on a regular printer. You can make 4 copies of this...
Well we are in lockdown again... what was supposed to be just one week has become two and who knows how much more. It's hard not to be disheartened. I work in an area that had Tier 1 notifications and also live in an area that had Tier 1 notifications. I had my fifth covid test at the start of the week for piece of mind and thankfully it was negative. First Vaccination done too so fingers crossed we won't have to be so stressed. When we look at all the numbers for people being tested there are very few cases and those that are, are linked so we should probably calm down a little. So what sewing have I been up to..... There has been some time with the sewing machine making up some more nine patch blocks. These can be quite a relaxing project. Won't be long and I think I will start to sew them together. Some applique has been done too, of course. I think I'd be lost without some applique to do. Okehampton is at the quilters and I am looking forward to having that complete! Block 4 of flower garden is done. One monster quilt has the monsters all sewn onto the background going to start the circles this weekend. Little 9 patch blocks to add to the pile. always encouraging when you can put your blocks together to see how they are growing. A pretty pile of hexie flowers..... Won't be long till I can start the stepping stones. I have some hand quilting on my winter wish list.. might go and see which top is the lucky first? Happy Days! Stay safe and well. Marina
I love clicking the label "Finished Quilts" for a post. Feels so satisfying! Thanks to watching a bit of Jurassic Park I managed to finish the binding on this mini quilt. It is the third block I have done from the Aunt Millie's Garden pattern. So now to turn my attention to Milly's quilt and the binding for that!
Hello Everyone I hope you have not given up on me as I have been away from the blog for a while. I assure you I have been busy working on new designs and playing with video's too. The quilt I am working on currently uses beautiful fabrics designed by Minick and Simpson called Grand Traverse bay. The design was sparked by an antique quilt I saw using the 'T' block in indigo blue and white fabrics. I immediately thought of the beautiful Minick and Simpson fabrics I had purchased. I did some research on the 'T' block and found a big T block I loved, arranging them in a straight set for the center of the quilt. The antique quilt did not have a border and only had 'T' blocks, but I thought my quilt would look better with an applique border. I started cutting all the triangles, and arranging the fabrics in various combinations of colour. Piecing the blocks together was fun, not a hard block to make. Arranging the blocks, all the fabrics looked great together. Now on to the applique border. Making the flowers and stitching the layers before appliqueing them to the border using Aurifil 80 weight thread and stitching invisibly by machine. The final design of the finished quilt. The pattern is coming soon ....... If you can think of a name for my quilt, that would be great ! I am always stumped when it comes to naming my quilts. I have been playing with the video while making applique flowers. I thought you might to take a look at part one of how I turn the edges for the applique flowers. I would love to know what you think, I am so new to video and to be honest it scares me a little. Happy Stitching Sharon P.S The pattern will be available soon for this quilt.
