Italian illustrator Daria Petrilli's digital artworks hearken back to the countryside retreats described by Flaubert and Tolstoy. She specializes in depicting pallid, Victorian beauties with curled hair and wasp waists. But Petrilli blurs the lines between nature and society with her dreamlike style, adorning some protagonists with bird wings and others with shells and other natural elements. In one piece, the character's dress becomes a window into a remote forest. When asked about her fascination with birds, she replied: "To me they communicate a sense of primordial restlessness."
