After taking a look at Art Deco last week, I became curious about Art Nouveau. "What's the difference?" kept entering my mind. So I did a little research. Flower border Turns out I'm addressing them backwards: Art Nouveau (new art) is the earlier style and is more naturalistic. That should have been last week's inspiration. Art Nouveau architecture My mnemonic: First, art is "nouveau," (pronounced new-voe) and natural; it includes shapes from nature such as leaves, arcs, ferns. Note the arcs, parabolas, and flower stamens Then, it decorates and styles a space, including sleek, geometric lines, chrome, zigzags. This is a broadly defining way of remembering the differences, but I need something. As you look at the modern quilts below, note the arcs, parabolas, flowers, and stylized, contrasting lines. Do you agree that these have some elements of Art Nouveau? Do you find that they also have elements of Art Deco as well? It gets a little confusing, doesn't it?

To be on the safe side we generally ship all orders with some additional white border to give you the option to keep it or remove it yourself. Some customers purchase prints to fit to standard frame sizes, and these frame sizes sometimes require no border, or can also require extra border to fill a mat board. We can only accommodate different frame sizes if you let us know before you order. If this is the case, please specify before you order if you would like a particular sized white border that is in addition to the listed print sizes and we will try to accommodate this for you. Without any special request you may receive a standard size border from us ranging anywhere from 3mm – 50mm (or possibly no border). Please note that all images in this listing are illustrative purposes only, and the images do not indicate the size of the border you will receive or give an accurate representation of their size related to objects in the images. The images also display the print itself as being adhered to the wall, and do not display any of the prints as being mounted, framed or stretched on wood bars. Note: the option ‘Canvas’ refers only to the fabric material that the artwork is printed on. The term ‘Canvas’ does not denote the print is stretched on wood bars or framed in any way. Note: The images found in this listing are for illustrative purpose only, and only give an approximation of how prints may appear on a wall give certain customisations. The images also only show the images as prints themselves unframed, and any resemblance to these prints being framed is unintentional and should not be taken as an indication of how prints will appear on a wall framed or unframed. Best Value Guarantee: We work hard to professionally restore artworks and images, making sure they are historically true to the original. Prints are sent rolled up in a packing tube and can expand or shrink slightly based on humidity levels. Prints sent rolled up will also require sometime to flatten out. Please use the provided gloves and be very careful after receiving the prints as they can scratch easily if you touch the printed surface. As mentioned already, please specify if you would like a particular size white border in addition to your print, otherwise you may receive no white border, or you may receive a standard size border from us ranging anywhere from 3mm – 50mm. All pictures in this listing are for illustrative purposes only and do not intend to indicate any additional services or features being sold that is not contained in this description or item specifics.
Los Angeles, nightpalm.com Before launching her interior design studio, Howell started out as a music video director and head of fashion photographer Herb Ritts’ music video agency. Music — and, perhaps, Ritts’ glamorous photographic eye — still informs everything she does. Howell’s interiors are lush, moody, filled with both iconic and obscure pieces of vintage — often European — and with a special eye for art. She’ll often say things to clients like “I want your house to feel like David Bowie,” or “I want the house to feel like a Stan Getz song.” And you know what? Every time it works, from the Hancock Park project she recently landed on the cover of Elle Décor to the hammam-inspired partnership she debuted with Studio Kohler at Design Miami. What is American design to you, and what excites you about it? There is no one single design aesthetic standard here. It’s a melting pot of global influences where we extract various cultural ideas and implement them with a fresh perspective, and I feel there is a real freedom because of that. I also have always felt that American design acts as a marker for what is going on socially/politically and it feels quite reflective and storytelling in that way. These narratives inspire me personally as I romance the idea of the story. What are your plans and highlights for the upcoming year? 2023 is shaping up to be very busy year for us with multiple residential projects on both the West and East coasts (let’s just say there might be a skating rink involved) and several other commercial projects. We are also working on design collaborations with some very cool and creative brands — for example, a Night Palm tile and flooring line with Concrete Collaborative. And finally, we’ve been busy dreaming up on our own furniture and lighting lines that I hope to debut in late 2023 plus an art show experience which I’m hoping will launch in the late summer. What inspires or informs your work in general? The mystery and romance of things drive me. I always try to sit in the unknown when I am conceptualizing and before I enter the flow of any project. Next, I dive into the questions and motivation behind the space. I am so deeply interested in the depth of our emotional landscapes and how to bring that alive through the aesthetic. I often … Continue reading Tiffany Howell of Night Palm

She Will Find What Is Lost by Brian Kershisnik depicts a woman receiving divine help from a host of angels, rushing in to bless and support her. Though she may feel alone, she is actually surrounded by heavenly help. This print resonates with those suffering loss, discouragement, or loneliness. A number of Kershisnik's paintings depict angels interacting with mortal men and women. Brian writes, "My intention for this piece was to speak to the most intensely private and intimate kind of supernatural interference, influence, and assistance... Many unseen forces are interested in you, love you, and work to influence matters for your profound benefit. Most of what we all do is resist it, misinterpret it, or mess it up, but my experience indicates that these unseen efforts persist impossibly. I thank God for that." The original painting is on display at the Conference Center on Temple Square (60 West North Temple, Salt Lake City, Utah.) Bless your home with a print of She Will Find What Is Lost today. Give to: anyone in your life who may be struggling. Pray and think about who you can serve, and you truly can be inspired and led by those who need your love. As a close watcher of trends in the design world, I will say that there’s a lot out there that is very beautiful, but few things that feel really new. There are always exceptions, though, like these iridescent homewares (and accessories). They feel different and futuristic and maybe even a little bit magical, the perfect thing for taking your home, and your style, to the next level. Above: Definitely a bit pricey, but watch for sales.
