My ‘Inspired By’ posts began as a way to explore what makes me tick as an artist, what I’m drawn to, what makes my heart sing, what I might want to try out in terms of marks or colour combinations or compositions. They are also a way for me to share the work of artists […]
Imagine a world where your dreams and the way they distort reality can be reproduced on canvas, paper or some other material on which artists paint. Doesn’t that sound amazing? Well, if you are the type to let your imagination take over and rule over your interest in the world of art, then you will like it surrealism and the paintings that are inspired by it. The thing about surrealism is that it strives to represent the images of the unconscious mind making it very bizarre albeit fascinating to look at. In fact, taking a teenager to look at surrealistic art is the best way on how to involve teenagers in art projects.
This Turkish, Istanbul-based illustrator Aykut Aydoğdu has developed a unique style creating surreal, enigmatic digital art. It reflects the most intense and incomprehensible feelings that haunt the souls of those who suffer or have already suffered being brokenhearted.

BORDALO II: Garbage, the new street art aesthetic
Ashley Mackenzie tackles complex questions about the relationship between mind and body, creating conceptual, illustrative works that stand at the cross-section of the philosophy of the mind and neuroscience. "As our knowledge of the brain becomes more comprehensive, it seems like the idea of the soul exists only in the gaps of our understanding," Mackenzie writes on her website. Bodies melt like pools of liquid in these placid, sparsely-detailed illustrations as they visualize the inner workings of the mind. Take a look at some of Ashley Mackenzie's works after the jump, images courtesy of the artist.
About The Artwork Limited edition of 9 units, all hand painted, acrylic on canvas. Series created in 2019, winner of Fabrik’s Carbon and Dayligheted awards. It is a rupture with a hegemonic model of a skin pattern, where there is a transfiguration of an aesthetic limit to a freedom to create territories in oneself that break with the limited skin, the skin I feel is what comes from inside. Tearing the limits of oneself to patch oneself up again. If the skin that I feel is a limit, I must create exit mechanisms from myself to externalize what is inside my skin.
