PLEASE CONTACT ME FOR CURRENT TURN AROUND TIMES! "MOONSHINE" Are you looking for that finishing touch? This beautiful wall hanging is just the thing! The Moon shines brightly on the muddled night sky. Loose yourself in the reflections as they seem to dance across the ocean. The moon is reversed appliqued. This quilted wall hanging is made of cotton and ruched polyester/cotton blend. The ruching makes the ripples in the water. It was designed and made by me in my smoke free studio. This quilt is made to order so yours will look similar but not exact. It measures 21x40 inches. Thanks for visiting my shop! Joan

Whether this quilt graces the walls of a contemporary setting or provides a striking contrast in a more traditional space, this Abstract Art Quilt is destined to leave a feast for the eyes, with abstract forms that provoke thought and emotion, inviting viewers to explore its depths. Vacationing on oceanside gave me the inspiration to make this quilt. It is made with a lot of colors for the sky. About a hundred narrow strips of fabric were used which took around two weeks to construct. A sleeve has been added to make it easy to hang. About The Artwork Textile is my medium. I use fabrics as painter uses paints. Usually I dye them by myself to get rich, intense and varied colors, such as colors of fall in Poland, specially of the falling leaves. Thus the title of my work. My "leaves" are triangle-shaped, because I folded them like prairie points, typically used in american quilts. Art Quilt Multi-Color Denim Jeans Recycled Levis Handmade Quilted Art Wall Hanging Fiber Arts Six Ladies Dancing Size: 27" x 17" (LxW) Multi-color on blue denim Title: SIX LADIES DANCING The swirling circles of this piece remind me of ladies skirts spinning around and around. Blue jean denim ( from several old pairs of Levi jeans) comprises the block backgrounds and binding. Multi-color swatches of cotton fabric have been mismatched into circles of raw edge applique. The patterns have been enhanced with encircling rows of navy cotton yarn. This piece is meant to be a bit unraveled and stringy with a comfortable vibe, just like a favorite pair of old jeans. The piece is backed with cotton fabric with a cotton batting sandwiched between. Hanging sleeve and dowel included. Best cleaning method: give the quilt a really good shake to remove dust at least once a month. Machine wash gentle cycle and machine dry, only if absolutely necessary.
Finished the campfire piece today. Actually, I thought I had it finished yesterday. It looked like this: I don't know if you can see what I changed. The bottom foreground wasn't quite working for me. Those rocks around the fire looked too tight and somehow unnatural. And the ground itself wasn't "grounding." I added a couple more rocks and some deep shadow, which seem like an improvement to me. And then I added more sparks. Seemed like it needed those. This piece will be submitted for our next High Fiber Diet show, "The Elements." If I can get them done in time, I hope to complete all four elements to submit. I started with "fire" because it seemed the most challenging, but now I am having a hard time coming up with any ideas for earth, air and water! The size of this is 15" x 35". I kind of wish I had made it larger.
Here are some more pieced quilts that I loved in QN '15. Maria Shell, To Agnes Martin, With Color Maria has made an impressive body of work out of the nine-patch, usually in its more complicated variations. This one is the minimalist version and stunning in its simplicity. Bonnie Bucknam, Estuary: Anaheim Back Bay Bonnie is no stranger to QN, having won best in show four years ago. This year's piece is smaller than she has typically worked in the past, and came about sort of by accident. She needed a third piece to round out her QN entry and as the entry deadline approached, she hauled out her box of partial tops that for some reason had never been finished. She sliced up two of them and combined them into this composition -- good enough to get into the show, and an intriguing new dimension to her long string of geology-themed quilts. Gail Baar, Color Form 71 I've been privileged to see Gail's work for several years in person, as she has been a regular exhibitor in Form, Not Function, my local quilt art show. Everything I've seen of hers in past years has been a lot smaller than her QN piece, and I think the big jump in size has been a very good idea. Yasuko Saito, Movement #71 (detail below) What is it with the number 71? Maybe it's this year's good luck number. I loved this work enough to argue for it to be best in show, until I got up close and looked at the quilting. Somehow the swirly floral designs, which were used in most of the quilt, didn't seem to match the straight lines of the piecing. I think it's always tricky to pair curves with straight lines (no matter which is the composition and which is the quilting) and don't think this one hit the mark. But just stand back and fall in love!

Sea Kelp is a beautiful original designed wallquilt that flows with movement like kelp in the sea. This original design piece of art starts with hand dyed fabric that has been quilted with an overall swirling pattern with varigated cotton thread. The edge is surged with this same thread for a light and simple finished edge. A piece of fiber art woven from various raw edge strips of batik fabric, silk, fibers, ribbon, and netting is placed on top of the quilted background and held in place with beautiufl glass beads. As you move from left to right across this rich piece and see the beautiful glass beads, the woven pieces hang and move freely. The fabrics and fibers running veritcally hang below the quilted background, adding another element of movement. This dimensional piece looks different from every angle. Beautifully hand made and wonderfully constructed, this piece includes a hanging sleeve on the back and is ready to display in your home or office. Background size: 18"W X 23" L Overall size (including length of hanging fabrics: 18"W X 46"L This piece was displayed in a one-woman show at the Ocean City Arts Center in Ocean City, NJ Comes from a smoke-free studio. Last week we exhibited at the Canberra Craft & Quilt Fair and thank everyone for your continued support and wonderful comments you have given. The Quilt Displays, Wood Workers, Guilds and other displays were colourful and eye-openers. BERNINA BEST OF SHOW BEST OF STATE 1st PLACE ART QUILT (Open) BEST USE OF COLOUR was awarded to BRONWYN HILL for "IGGY" Bronwyn said: "Iggy (Ignatius), from the Latin ignis, meaning fire, comes the quilt's colour. The background was inspired by the harsh environs of the Galapagos Islands". Measures 199 x 114cm Amazing, don't you think? Just examine the detail in the image above. BEST USE OF EMBELLISHMENT 1st Place MIXED MEDIA QUILT (Open) HANGERS' CHOICE AWARD was awarded to DOROTHY CLEE for "WALLED GARDEN" Dorothy said: "On a garden tour of England, Dorothy found the contrast between the old buildings and the softening effect of the living flower beds very inspirational for the creation of a quilt. Many different techniques were used in its construction, including raw edge applique, broderie perse, couching, solvy work and paint." Measures 114 x 85cm Dorothy also entered another in the Art Quilts Section and although not a Prize Winner, caught my attention because of detailed three-dimensional aspect, so I took a side view photo of it hoping you may gain feeling of the depth. I couldn't capture it well enough for my liking, but maybe you can use a little imagination. Dorothy's fox is certainly fatter and with a much bushier tail than the wretched ones on our property that kill our baby lambs! Fascinating work Dorothy. "WATCHING" by DOROTHY CLEE Dorothy said: "Behind Dorothy's property is a reserve, with bush country made up of large lichen and moss-covered rocks, many trees and fallen timber. This is a haven for foxes, who find the rocky outcrops a great home. This quilt mainly used batik fabrics and raw edge applique. Detailed with thread painting." Measures 60 x 85cm More as soon as possible. Stitches & Craft Show is on in Newcastle this week, though Punch with Judy will not be attending. Art quilt, quilted wall hanging- Rainbow Leaves. Small whole cloth quilt where rainbow colored leaves overlap on a black raw silk, raw silk or Kona cotton background. The leaves look transparent, like a ghost leaves, ones that have been eaten by some hungry insect leaving only their veins. Measures about 25'x21". Polyester batting. Has a hanging sleeve. I can make a larger or horizontal (landscape) version of this quilt by your request for a higher price. Allow me about 5 to 7 days to make it.
This hanging art quilt is part of my "Rising" series; about the structures we build, and what comes back in return - whether from nature, or from human interaction with the natural environment. This piece considers the combination of sunset and glittering lights of buildings in the urban landscape.

We found a rainbow of colors on our walk this morning. Which leads right into my finished rainbow piece for the Swirls of Color class with Isobel Moore. I'm known for starting lots of projects....and only finishing a few. I really wanted to start experimenting with some other swirl ideas today....but I thought it was more important to get closure on this one. I think I'm going to keep this piece....so wanted it small to tuck somewhere in my studio. I chose to bind it onto a canvas like I did for a recent fabric stained glass piece....simple and clean. http://joyfulputtering.blogspot.com/2020/07/fused-bound-binding.html There are lots of strings that go off the edge....so the binding a little lumpy...but that's the nature of the project. I'm actually pretty happy with it....which is unusual for me to say. Isobel is such a great teacher....and I can't wait to keep working with strips of cloth and fibers. I cut my piece the exact size of my 8" wooden paint panel (a reject from my painted papers class). I prepared the binding with a 1/2 inch of fusible webbing along the edge and sewed it on the piece like I would a quilt with mitered corners. I glued the piece on the panel with thick gel medium and weighed it down until it was dry...then fused the binding around to the back. Before I read the finishing lesson from the class...I was thinking about binding it with this soft stripe...that blended so well with all the colors. But based on Isobel's advise in the lesson....I chose the simple linen....and fused some of the stripe on the back for extra strength and as a little surprise. It was the right call!! Thank you Isobel!!! This oversized marble that spins on a base looks as if it was my inspiration! You can check out a little video of this marble in action on my Instagram page.
