Vincent van Gogh (1853-1890), Treurende oude man (At Eternity's Gate), 1890 Sorrowing old man (At Eternity's Gate), oil on canvas, 81 x 65 cm. The picture describes a depressed elderly man sitting in a chair beside the fireplace, unable to bear any more stress as he is trying to hide from the tensed world by concealing his eyes behind his fists. In 1890, in shortage of new inspirations between the four walls of Saint-Rémy’s Asylum, Van Gogh recalled an earlier drawing he made in 1882, on which this painting is based. He completed the painting at a time he was convalescing from a severe relapse in his health, some two months before his death, generally accepted as a suicide.
The simple pleasure of a painting of two crabs offered solace to Imogen West-Knights at a time when she struggled to feel anything at all.
In fall and winter 1889-90, while a voluntary patient at the asylum in Saint-Rémy, Van Gogh ⎆ painted twenty-one copies after Jean-François Millet ⎆, an artist he greatly admired. He considered his copies "translations" akin to a musician's interpretation of a composer's work.
Antonio De Robertis, a leading authority on the artist, claims to have identified the Dutch painter among a group of 34 men who posed for the image at the Académie Julian in Paris in 1888.
The artist and his brother are buried in a landscape straight out of a van Gogh painting.

Hepsi de değilse, nedir Vatanım? Meral Meri
