Have you ever tripped while going up or down stairs and thought, “Ugh, that wasn’t my fault! That was the fault of whoever horribly designed these stairs!” Probably not right? At least when I fall going up or down stairs, I know the only explanation is my clumsiness. That’s because designing stairs requires a high level of precision and ability, but there are somehow people out there brave enough to design stairs when they clearly have no idea what they're doing. We’ve gathered some of the internet’s worst stair design fails down below for you to marvel at (and count your blessings if you live on the first floor of your building). Be sure to upvote all of your favorite stairwell atrocities, and then if you're looking for even more epic stair fails, check out Bored Panda's last publications on the same topic here and here.

Every gallery wall example I have ever seen going up the stairs has been in a more open hallway design. I didn't think it was possible with a narrow staircase like the one I have.
For those of you who don't know, this is the helical staircase inside London's City Hall on the Southbank of the River Thames. Public access was granted as it was part of the Open House London weekend, it's a rather smashing day out if you can put up with all the queuing and the masses of people. I think next time I am going to scout out the smaller, less popular locations as I reckon there is a minefield of original material waiting to be shot. Hoping to get out soon and shoot something new, but for now, the archives will have to do. :-)
When I was about 5 or 6, I remember having to walk up the dark staircase of my parents' house to go to bed at night. There was a window at the top of the stairs that caught ambient light reflections and once I thought I saw a face. Over time, I became convinced that a devil was watching me climb the stairs, waiting for me to get into my bed. I was never brave enough to look directly at the window, I kept my head straight down, and bolted from the top of the landing to my bedroom door, heart pounding with fear. It's so strange to me that we are able to scare ourselves so badly with nothing other than our own imagination.
