Last week we were proud hosts to one of our longest running collaborators; graphic artist and print-maker Anthony Burrill. He and his wife Emma flew all the way from Kent, England to join us in Portland for a special Design Week exhibit of his iconic prints. In addition to a rousing Q&A session from the Schoolhouse stairwell, Burrill was also here for a very special reason - to launch his latest exclusive Schoolhouse collaboration: The Start With Yes print. A positive, daily affirmation of one’s ability to accomplish things big and small with a can-do attitude, this new print was thoughtfully designed and sized to add something special to a variety of spaces. Inspired by old-school banners, each print is handmade using a traditional woodblock printing process and signed in pencil. As part of our exhibit showcasing his encouraging typographical compositions – now available online for a limited time as part of our exclusive pop-up – Anthony also came to Schoolhouse to celebrate the release of his latest design book: Make It Now! Creative Inspiration & The Art of Getting Things Done. Full of inspiration and ideas, along with his best-loved prints and new work, this book was written to get you thinking bigger and better and recharge your creativity. After the Q&A portion of the evening, Anthony kept the party going, signing copies of his book and chatting up all the Design Week attendees. Portland's Union Wine Co. pulled out all the stops, partnering with Burrill to create special wine labels specifically for the event. Occidental Brewing showed up with their perfectly on-point color-happy beer cans while Koi fusion brought the taco Tuesday party to the table. Also, many thanks to work/shop pdx for the gorgeous floral arrangements and to DJ Anjali & The Incredible Kid for the providing the upbeat sounds all evening. All in all, it was a pretty epic showing for Schoolhouse’s inaugural Design Week Portland event. A gigantic thank you to Mr. Anthony Burrill for being such a fun and gracious guest. As we mentioned before, we’ll be hosting an exclusive collection of his prints online for a limited time only.
