The times when paper was considered to be the primary medium for artistic expression is long gone. Many writers and designers use digital media to improvise and develop their ideas. However, there is something particuliar in this "physical" canvas — something that keeps us getting back to paper when we want to brainstorm ideas in a notebook, doodle around in a sketchbook, collect inspiration in a scrapbook or just draw some sketches for the next project.
In the summer of 2011, Fideli Sundqvist presented her graduation project at Stockholm’s Konstfack University. In the midst of the overblown gaudy work from the art departments, the conceptual…

This is the template I have designed to create my "PebbleFalls" kirigami sculpture. Not too challenging to cut or fold, and very dynamic once it's finished. A jagged rocky landscape, gushing with flow. This is not an assembled piece, rather it provides you with the pattern to make it yourself. I spend a lot of time and care in designing these; they are accurate to the 10th of a millimeter. To use it, I print it out (color or b&w works fine; I use a b&w laser printer), attach one edge gently to a piece of card using lo-tak tape or glue stick, then score with an embossing point, cut with a scalpel, and fold with my fingers. Please note that this is a challenging model to construct. If you are a beginner, it might be worth starting with a simpler design and working toward this one. All templates are A4 pdf files. I prefer the metric system. But they work just fine on letter paper too. If you want native letter-sized templates, let me know and I'll make some for you. Each one comes with a photo of the finished goal, to help you work, as well as some general tips and then the template itself. Any questions, please feel free; I'm a genuine enthusiast and don't mind talking about it :) Happy cutting, and be careful with those blades!
