The Waitomo Glow Worm Grotto is easily one of the most beautiful places on earth, and it's all thanks to the Arachnocampa Iuminosa, a tiny glow worm that makes its home only in New Zealand. Discovered in 1889, the cave hosts open tours of Waitomo so that you can experience the soothing lights yourself. The tour takes place across the 250 meter cavern, beginning at the catacomb acts as the entrance to the caving network. Next up is the Banquet Chamber, which once acted as a meeting place and a dinner hall for visitors.
