40 pages of strategies and practice sheets for common letter reversal errors. Some letter reversals are totally developmentally appropriate! Of course they are tricky to learn! I recommend these worksheets for students at the end of first grade or 7 years old that are still making reversal errors. However, the rhymes, prompts, and multi sensory strategies are great for four and up as children begin learning letters. As a kindergarten teacher, special education teacher and homeschool mama I have pulled these strategies from years of experience and need. If something is missing I'd love to hear ideas of what I can add. This is a digital product. No Product will ship.
B and D reversals are something I see often in my students reading and writing. I've posted before {here} about some of the errors that I often see in struggling readers and how I correct the errors while reading {here}. Today, I'm sharing with you some of the activities that I use to help students practice differentiating between the letters B and D. Sometimes it seems like my students really just need so much practice and lots of visual cues to help them out. I like to give my students consistency with how I describe the formation of B and D. I always use the sayings "bat before the ball" for B and "doughnut on a stick" for D. This helps my students remember what part of the letter they need to form first. I keep some of these types of activities handy all the time. I can easily pull them out whenever we have a few extra minutes or if I just think my students need some more discrimination practice between the two letters. You can check these activities out by clicking on the picture below or {here}. One of my students favorite games is this B and D Zap! game that's a freebie in my store. We play this game as a "speed" game. I set my timer for 3 minutes and students must quickly say the correct letter to keep a card. We try to do as many as we can in 3 minutes. There are special cards that students can pull, such as the Zap! card. The Zap! card means students must give all of their cards back to me. There is also a skip and reverse card to keep the game fun. My students love playing Zap! You can check it out by clicking on the picture below or {here}. I hope this gives you some helpful ideas for your students!

1-2-3 Come Work On The Alphabet With Me Have you tried several ways to get the light bulb to turn on in your students' heads, so they stop confusing the similar b and d letters? This was a problem for my Y5's. They had narrowed it down to recognizing that the letter was either a "b" or a "d", but needed a little trick to help remember, which was which. This packet is filled with helpful tips for taking the confusion out of the letters b and d and includes 12 anchor charts plus 3 skill sheets. There are posters of several other successful "memory-trigger" methods, (like the word bed) along with the story of b and d. B and D are letters that are often reversed, confused and read incorrectly. This quick activity helps children learn these letters in a multisensory way.
Yay!! It's Friday! Woooo-hoooo!! Today I had my kids work on a really fun activity. Most of my students are progressing along nicely with learning their letters and sounds but many of them still mix up b's and d's! Do you kids have this problem?? My good friend came up with a great activity set to help those struggling students master the difference between b's and d's! Take a look at the activities:: This first game is a simple b/d race. The students rolled a dice with only the letters b and d on it. (We used garage sale stickers on a dice where I wrote the letters b and d.) We also were resourceful and used glue sticks as the game pieces. They simply rolled the dice, said what letter it landed on and moved the glue stick up until one of the letters won! The next activity had the kids sort 20 cards depending on the initial letter of the word. This was a great game for my visual learners! (Another picture of some of the word cards.) They then recorded them on the sheet with a dry erase marker. This is another recording sheet where students could record their b and d words or come up with their own words, if they were able to do that! It was a great way to differentiate for my higher leveled students. Lastly they had to circle b's and d's according to what the directions said! They did awesome with this activity too! I will be using this activity set a lot in the coming weeks until we can master those pesky b's and d's! Click here to check out this activity!! I also wanted to show you what my co-worker did with her kindergartners for the 100th day of school yesterday! It took them a loooooong time but they turned out great! They made pictures of what they would look like when they are 100 years old! I just didn't have the time or patience for this activity--- but her kids did an awesome job!! Aren't those pictures so precious??? I love them!!
